She was the queen of Atlantic records long before Aretha & Roberta Flack. In fact, she & LaVern Baker were the 1st female singers that were signed in that label. Little Richard cites her as one of his influences(he said he got that squeaky wail from her).
And yes, her Atlantic records period are def worth the listen  | |

Yes ..Give Mrs Brown a listen to.. one of my faves by her is Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean... "..Just close your eyes and count to 10...and when U open 'em I'll B standing naked with nuthin' but a SMILE on.." | |

This is also from the show(with Ms.Linda Hopkins)... Attitude for days 
If I'm not mistaken, that broadway play was her BIG career revival along with Ms.Linda Hopkins. My mother(a big broadway buff) went to that show ALOT of times when got played in broadway. | |
