Yeah, it really will. I'm still not really over it. My fandom had calmed down in the last two years but then when the concerts were announced I booked my tickets straight away without even thinking if it was possible for me to get there from Australia with my resources etc. And thats when I knew my fandom went right back up to 10 again. I was in concert preparation mode since March so it was a much harder blow then what it would of been if it had happened a year ago or so. The radio single This Is It, which arrives ahead of a forthcoming feature documentary film and two-CD set of the same name, is a saccharine-sweet love song, handsomely orchestrated and featuring the downy backing vocals of his older brothers. Mid-tempo with a finger-snapping beat, the major-key ballad begins (after Jackson counts it in, “1-2-3-4”) with a stirring opening line, "This is it, here I stand/ I'm the light of the world, I feel grand."

Fans of the King of Pop might be feeling less than thrilled, however. The song is not new. Rather, it is an undisguised version of I Never Heard, a 1991 track co-written by Jackson and Paul Anka that appears on the album I Wasn’t Born Yesterday from New York dance-pop singer Safire. Her version is more upbeat, but the smooth melody is retained. Lyrics, which concern an unexpected set of romantic feelings (“Falling in love wasn’t my plan”), are mostly identical.

No information was supplied by Sony as to the tune’s origin. “We just found the song,” said Rob Stringer, chairman of the Columbia/Epic Label Group, a Sony division. “It was titled “This Is It.” It was in a box, and we listened to it.”

Stringer told the New York Times that Sony originally believed that the piano-and-vocal demo tape was made around the time of Jackson’s 1991 album Dangerous. A full arrangement, including backing vocals, waves of strings and, during one bridge, muted horns, was likely assembled posthumously.

If the song’s past is murky, its release is certainly marks the start of somethin’ – surely there are more boxes of Jackson material in vaults, and future releases are anticipated. One would imagine that This Is It was chosen as the first single released since Jackson’s death because of it’s tie-in with the movie, a behind-the-scenes documentary surrounding the lead-up events to the complicated performer’s planned series of 50 concerts, to begin this summer, at London’s O2 Arena. The film arrives in theatres on Oct. 28, one day after the release of a double-disc album that packages greatest hits with demos and a spoken-word piece, entitled Planet Earth. The single, which will also appear as an orchestral version on the album, will not be released separately.

The documentary takes it name from a quote from Jackson. When announcing his London concerts, the former Motown child star with the Jackson 5 declared that the shows would be both his comeback and curtain call: “This is the moment,” he said. “This is it.” Those last three words coincidently begin each verse of the Jackson-Anka tune, and as easy as A-B-C, the old song was resurrected for the project.

When I heard the snippet, I was already thinking to myself that his voice sounded like it was from the 80's, so yeah that makes since. It was hard for me to listen to it but I do love it.

I can´t even imagine my reactions to the film, cause I have been feeling OK recently. Not heart-broken as the first one or two months after his death. But just yesterday I watched the Untold Story of Neverland and I totally broke down when at the end, they said that he died of cardiac arrest on 25th....I just lost it. I am just totally not thinking about his death anymore but when I realize it, it hurts as much as it did the second I found out about it.

I think the song sounds fine. I think that some people are expecting way too much from the unreleased tracks.michael did not release these songs when he was living so they are mostly demos.I love hearing his voice and I like the song. Michael's demos sound 100 times better than most of the stuff out today.

-Dirty Diana: written and demoed in 1983 THEN again in 1984 THEN again in 1985 along with Speed Demon, The Way You Make Me Feel, and Smooth Criminal. Recorded the final version in either late 1986 or early 1987

-Another Part Of Me: written and recorded in early 1985 for Captain EO then remixed for Bad in 1986

-Liberian Girl: written and demoed in 1983 for Victory then held back for Bad

-For All Time: demoed for Thriller then redone over the years and then recorded in 1990 for Dangerous but left off the album, added some more vocals for Thriller 25

-Little Susie: written and demoed in 1979, done in 1989 for the Decade project then re-recorded in 1994 for HIStory

-Earth Song, They Don't Care About Us, Blood On The Dancefloor, and Superfly Sister are all from the 1989-1991 Dangerous sessions. (Earth Song was supposed to have Shirley Ceasar featured)

I’m not gonna lie, the song is good but NOT great, better than the outrageous music we hear today on radios….its always great to hear a new MJ tune.

Fuck sony for using a track that MJ felt it wasn’t good enough to make the final cut, the song represents 0% of what Mj had recorded in the past years , Mj had gems still stored in the vault, I pray to god that sony don’t have any control over any track recorded in the past 7 or 8 years , I don’t want them to misuse his songs………

Off The Wall would have the original mixes, the demos from the 2001 Special Edition, Sunset Driver, and the single mixes AND more unreleased tracks

Thriller would have all the demos, unreleased songs, new packaging.....the works

Bad would have the original 1987 mixes, single mixes, unreleased tracks, demos

Dangerous.....I'm still working on

obvious money grab by 'we saw it in a box' sony, and an attempt to appease the brothers by branca and mcclain by throwing some money their way so that hopefully they won't be breathing down katherine's neck to try to get her to replace them as administrators of mj's estate so that the brothers and others can benefit more from the estate. (it won't work; she'll still challenge, but the judge isn't removing branca or mcclain anytime soon.)
