Still nothing announced yet. The window seems too short.

Don't worry, they'll have some color variant of a previously released album ready to roll out. No way they'd pass up the opportunity for another easy cash grab lol

yeah, it seems about time for some news. if the whole pressing vinyl thing is the hold up, then
perhaps they could finally launch an online storefront where they sell downloads of aftershows,
rehearsals and studio material that doesn't really belong anywhere or won't get a big physical
release anytime in the next 20 years to begin with (like instrumental albums, one off weird shit
that doesn't belong anywhere on an album or stuff that just didn't make the cut on SDE sets in
the past - you know there are some alternate mixes, unedited longer tracks of stuff on 1999 or
SOTT SDE etc etc).

they could release a couple of things every single month. a concert, a rehearsal, an aftershow,
a few studio tracks.

and none of it would get in the way of major releases that will be on all the online platforms as well
as available in multiple physical formats.

The pressing vinyl thing caused Todd Rundgren to have to defer release of his new album for an Entire Year. Welcome to 2022, in other words. There of course will never be MP3 only releases of new stuff. Enough people are big on vinyl and CDs still, that there's a lot of money in it for the record companies, regardless of the cut their respective artists take.

And if I was Bart replying to your post just now, I would say "Nonsense". But I'm not Bart, so thank your lucky stars. Just do what you do, continue to eat more cake donut.

In the contrary, I think an online streaming-thing makes sense, when they're not able to print wax anymore.
Or else, they just have to quit this industry, or praying audio cassette will make it big again.
.
Another idea, that worth millions : print vinyl-size cover art, and put CDs inside.
No cracking anymore, no need to change the side every 3 songs, less expensive, amd you have the vinyl cover art, which makes for a large part of the fun of owning vinyls.

I hear ya. But I don't know. I think meeting somewhere in the middle is still a good idea.

Have an LP single or EP out for RSD, have a big box SDE release once a year with 10 LPs,
have the occasional one off album like W2A released on multiple formats.

But also have stuff that falls between the cracks, available for purchase, not as streams,
but as digital downloads. (maybe add them to a streaming platform after a year or so).

I mean, stuff like different mixes of U Got The Look or ICNTTPOYM, longer versions of the
obviously edited tunes etc etc. Do you think those ever stand the chance to end up on a
vinyl release now that the SOTT SDE has come and gone?

And yes, 1 or 2 aftershows, with the right promotion could sell very well and would be a
treasure to have for many fans, on vinyl or cd.

However, no one is going to buy 20 LPs of aftershows if vinyl continues to cost $ 40 and
takes a year of planning ahead to even get pressed.

For most other artists, ok, they have to wait a year and sit out the shortage. But with the
vault of prince music they are sitting on, they need to start thinking about releasing more
stuff, on a regular schedule, stuff that is deliberately not part of the big commerical sets.

I'm not sure I'd call that nonsense. I'd call that hoping for better things in the future smile

Streaming makes more sense than storage.
I'd rather have my music everywhere on the go than carrying whatever means of storage that needs a seperate player and can break.

You cannot fit your favorite Prince in one or 2TB on a sdxc card?

I have trouble with that but that is because of the b00tz.

Separate player?

Your dumbphone cannot fit multiple sd cards?

You think the `phone` is hifi worthy?

The Primary Wave vs heirs court wrangle for how to โ€œmanageโ€ things going forward is likely to be hindering the next big release too (see the Estate discussion sticky thread).

Simply pay now and deliver when it is ready.

Download first.Then CD's.

Then vinyl.

How hard can it be?

Now take my money and give me the music.

It's insane that there's still no website where we can purchase vault material and it's also a missed opportunity for the estate to earn more money. Unfortunately I don't think they have a proper plan ready for future releases more than SDE. There has been no more Originals so they're obviously done with that.

But the record companies just don't like the idea of releasing MP3s first, simply because it means they will lose some sales, even if certain people would still buy the vinyl later on. It's capitalism.

No, I can not fit all my HD tracks on a 2TB.
Yes seperate player.
Ys my phone phone can fit multiple sd cards, nbut I'm not carrying around myltiple SD card to switch them and be able to lose them.
Any phone can play HD tracks and ther are these thing called headphones on which HD tracks sound good enough.

sadly, yes. meanwhile a song like "Yo Mister" which was probably left off SOTT SDE to go on a possible ORIGINALS Vol 2 is just left in the vault forever, most likely. So sad.

If it comforts you, Yo Mister is 'out there'.

The Originals 'fart' was just that if there won't be swift sequels, without random people influencing song selection.

'Swift' is not the case anymore.

It simply shows the aimless Estate in all it's glory.

Oh sure.

But if that is the case, why is the rest so slow?

And if the rest is so slow, why not do a decent Originals volume 2?

(as some of us here assume that the archivist has gone through all the tapes...)

.

And if we get no sequel, then what about the tracks? Where will they go?

Is is to hard to see the nice niche for a release of this stuff?

Originals 2 would be a good way to sell the unsold shipments from the first 1 + reprint them + combos packages.
There's still some unused unreleased "hits" :

Act of Contrition/ Like A Prayer guitar work (#1 worldwide!)
The Bad duet ๐Ÿ˜‚
Nasty Girl (US #1 Dance)
The Belle of St MaRk (#34 US, #18 UK, top 10 in many countries)
A love Bizarre (#11 US)

Sugar Walls ( US #9)

Mia Bocca ( Italy #4)

Exactly. According to Stevie Nicks, Prince just swooped into the studio, came up with the that high and low bassy keyboard part and then left. The Bad duet most likely doesn't exist either because Quincy Jones said that Prince declined despite receiving the song from MJ; Prince even said he declined it. Get Wild and Good Life also are not Prince solo compositions unless there are very embryonic demos in the Vault that Prince presented to the band and then they all added their own parts.

I understand the practicle problems with the supply chain preventing any imminent major releases, but the Estate needs to do something to keep fans excited and engaged. They need to keep the buzz going, not let it peter out.

Even though W2A was a bit divisive among fans, at least it gave us something to debate. It kept Prince fresh in our minds. Not every posthumous release will please every Prince fan, and that's okay -- not every release when he was alive pleased all of his fans. He had such an electic style and a diverse fan base that was unavoidable. So give me something, anything, even if it's not my cup of tea. Give me a reason to come to this forum excited to talk to other fans, either because I love the new album or I hate it and want to complain about it. Just make me care, damn it.

The Sony reissues aren't welcome, but not the type of thing to get fans excited and keep the momentum going.
