The way the SDEs have come out so far, seems fairly obvious a somewhat scattergun approach has been used. Bear in mind in the late 80s P recorded hundreds of songs every year. There's no way the songs selected all fit the same time period as per 1999 recording sessions, Purple Rain, Sign. It's perfectly fine if you view it as a random jukebox assembly rather than an cohesive album attempt. That we have all this music released is a blessing regardless.

Me too. We don't know how the tapes in the vault were, maybe this is jut how that tape was after all these years and that was the best they could do. Could you imainge the outcry if the release was Frankensteined and they 'fixed' it by using a bootleg version spliced in at the end?

With Feel U Up and Irresistible Bitch on 1999 SDE, people moaned about them not being spliced together and there bing a gap between them. But when the splicing occured on Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, people were up in arms.

Either you want what's in the vault, as Prince left it, or you don't. Just because we, or an elite, has something in a certain quality or a certain version, that doesn't mean that is exactly what was in the vault when Prince died.

What the estate really need to do is give more details on why things are as they are. Give transparency when something is frankensteined or mixed with artistic interpretation.

The way Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden merge sounds perfect . And I don't think it was Prince's idea. Debated for long enough, I'm sure someone on the org will come up with the idea space aliens had something to do with it.

It's definitely there. Been a while since I've listened so I can't remember the time stamp but somewhere during the "goodness will guide us" section, the sound gets slightly muddy and remains that way through the end of the track.

As for the "scattershot" schedule of releases, I agree. Several anniversaries have been missed (30th Anniversary D&P, 35th Annivesary Parade, etc.) but I don't know if the industry really cares about those milestones anymore.

There has also not been any sort of design continuity on the re-releases . . . PR and 1999 went silver, but SOTT did not. PR and 1999 were smaller, SOTT was a giant box. As a designer, I think an opportunity was missed there.

Agreed. Instead of having a coherent plan, they're learning what they can get away with. W2A was proof enough of that.

The big thing for me was that there was not a US CD/Blu-Ray set priced around $40-ish. (Yes I know there was a set like this overseas, but not in the US.) And they didn't offer the Blu-Ray (or digital download) separatly. You could only get the Blu-Ray as part of the $100 deluxe set.

I opted for the $9.99 CD only. No way I would spend $100 for the deluxe set of a newer album.

Photos and stuff like ticket replicas don't move me anymore. I would have ponied up more $$ if there were demos/bonus tracks.

I'm with you on the "no way I would NOT buy a new Prince album". I did not buy the SOTT SDE CD (a fellow Orger gave me their download codes), but I did get the 2LP peach vinyl for my birthday.

You did not notice any inflation in the CD prices lately?

With Primary wave who took control of the rights & copyrights we are not sure about new releases as we knew so far...we are not even sure that The Estate entity + Troy Carter/Howe will continue to be employed in the weeks/months to come.

I'm sure they'll still be retained. Primary Wave don't have sole control, only a stake. Albeit the largest. The family involved in the Estate still own their share, and Comerica continue to serve as the estate administrator. It's all a bit complicated, but nothing has happened yet to slow down new releases.

I honestly have not bought any CDs in the past few years other than Prince ones, the last one being W2A for $9.99.

I'm guessing from your response that the prices are higher for every artist? I was only complaining about the SOTT:SDE inflated price.

Other stuff is second hand or b00tleg.

B00tz went up a bit but that was before COVID or even this inflation thing.
