Because they were both minors having sex? It's a song about someone's first time? Because she asked to smoke the weed? I have a sneaking suspicion that you aren't arguing this in good faith and it was really just an excuse to take political potshots. Let it go, dude.

Sure, the stoned 14 year old seeing double could consent to the 16 year old Prince pulling her pants off and one pumping her. I'm sure people will understand that context of "kids being kids" and not freak out if some website writes an article on it.

Yeah, all that said, the song will be on the set and not a single soul will give a shit except us fans. And even then, we've had the song in release quality for years so it won't move the needle either way.

Schoolyard will be included. It doesn't have anywhere near the lyrical issues that the other 2 omitted songs do.

It's the real story about how a 16 year old Prince lost his virginity to a stoned 14 year old. How is that not problematic?

"I was only 16 and her name was Carrie
She was the number one little girl I wanted 2 marry me
She was only 14, but she had the major body
[...]

I said "Carrie, hmm, do U wanna dance?"
She said "Uh hmm, yeah, like later man, first let me smoke this weed"
I said "Damn, my cologne ain't sayin' shit if this is what she needs"

Yeah, before I knew it, Carrie was seein' double
That's when me and her got into trouble
So much 4 the dance
I started takin' off Carrie's pants

And now boys and girls 4 the graphic part
Close your ears if U ain't got a nasty heart
Here we go
Now take a glove, fill it with hot baby lotion and slip it on
Pull it tight, that's what Carrie was like
One stroke and I was gone
Gone I was, it's true"

-

No it certainly is not problematic at all.

It is a doubtful story tbh, no matter if he sings ''it's true''.

And, it's a story that fits in with countless other nasty songs prior to this one.

I am not shocked at all. Young tenagers, experiment all the time.

Maybe it's about the way it is written, and sung by a mature man, about somehting that happened when they were so young.

-

And what about ''Sister'', or ''Lady Cab Driver'' ? That female taxi driver sure was not enjoying his frustration rape imho.

All these songs are just about wonderful; Simply because they make you use your imagination.

If someone is shocked by a lyrical content, it says a lot more about that person in general. wink

-

Another important thing, he did NOT lost his virginity with a stoned 14 yo,

read what he sings :

''...take a glove ...

(that's for a hand, right ?

I don't see anyone sticking his dick in a lotion filled glove.

That means either you have a very tiny penis, or you just don't know shit how to use a condom as a 16 yo.)

...fill it with hot baby lotion and slip it on.

Pull it tight, that's what carrie was like''

He's just singing about fingering her !

Just sayin'

wink

Its always a fun ride with new prince music on the way ... even when it sucks ... eye am sure eye will be unmastering whatever remastered butcher job king tubby bernie gives us this time ... wish they would give us the original masters instead .. i guess that is too much to ask since the estate thinks us old die hards listen on earbuds and iphones .. honestly dnp has a far broader appeal to the general population than parade and sott .. its a good way to transition to his later works

That "eye" thing was stupid when Prince used it, and you ain't Prince.

.

Also, you cannot "unmaster" something, that's like claiming you can split up soup into its original parts.

.

wish they would give us the original masters instead ..

.

Either something is mastered or it ain't. Sure, there is something like a flat master, but there's no way you're gonna get that.

RODSERLING

I still highly doubt Crystal Ball would be released for April, knowing that every official announcement from the estate was at least three months before the actual releass.
And still no official announcement.

I would bet on a june release, to the least.

And without Kamasutra, which is really a let down.

I wish I could get excited about this news confused D&P is a good album but honestly,I have no real desire to revisit it.I’ll wait and see what the bonus tracks are.

Really wish they would do a SDE for Dirty Mind or Controversy.

If you own Crystal Ball on CD (as I, hell, we all do!), then you have every need to buy it on vinyl, because, for the first time, it won't sound like shit.... does that not sway you?

I'm so excited to hear this music as it was supposed to be heard, not so loud it's distorted.

I Don't own it, never saw it in stores, so I will gladly buy iton CD.
Not in vinyl, the mere idea of changing ten times the sides of the vinyls seems ludicrous to me.
Especially for an album that wasn't supposed to be released on vinyl, but just for the CD format.

IDK. I'm glad Crystal Ball is getting a vinyl release.

But the new album and SDE is disappointing news. Nothing from the 80's.

Are the releasing W2A becuase of the state of America? Spin as a social conscious release? Hot Summer is nothing to get excited about.

My personal preference is to release everything from the 70's/80's before moving on to the mediocre years. And if they are going to jump around, release a Piano & Microphone show already, DAMN!

My choice...

RSD - Camille Vinyl

Continue the Legacy reissue - Spring/Fall releases

Originals Box Set - Birthday release

Parade SDE - Holiday release

I completely disagree with this opinion. It encapsulates exactly the direction that I hope the estate doesn’t go. And you have the right to your opinion of course.
.
I am extremely happy to see that the estate is moving beyond the 80s, at least if this report is accurate. A SDE release from the 1990s and a “new” album release from the 2000s or 2010s is just what I’d like at this point. Parade is one of my favorite albums, but I would be completely frustrated if it was the next SDE release. Dirty Mind and Lovesexy are the only 80s albums that I could see myself excited about as SDE in the next year or two. Whereas, I can definitely see enjoyment of expanded versions of D&P, Symbol, Gold, Chaos, 3121, Lotus, and even Planet Earth. These could be smaller deluxe packages like Purple Rain (only done better) or the bigger SDE.

As with EVERY OTHER SINGLE ALBUM REISSUE since Prince died, the vinyl editions of these later period albums have sounded COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to their original CD counterparts.... i.e., they have not been brickwalled.... for the first time, they have actually sounded good.

This is not hard to comprehend is it? I'm not sure what other words to use. I kind of used all the ones needed to explain the point.

As for the quality of the Crystal Ball music? The notion that the tracks are butchered and mis-sequenced is just an opinion (and a rather tired one, at that) and has nothing to do with the potential SOUND quality of any release.

None of those albums were as bad as CB. And when CB was available through the NPGMC it was IIRC just as bad as the CD set.

It is not an opinion that for instance "Jam Of The Year" should not be featured in the intro to "Movie Star".
