Diamonds and Pearls SDE isn't what I was hoping for but it could be great if they include enough unreleased material. Hopefully they avoid filling 1/4 of the album with extended, remix, outake, and edit, versions of Jughead. "As long as I can hear you smilin' baby

What's the point? D&P edits, b sides and remixes, I m not sure they could fit only 3 CDs, maybe 4. You want a 25 CD boxset at 450$ and whining about how it s too pricey?

I would not want to mix the symbol with d&p. if they Will ever do a separate symbol release I think goldnigga would be a Nice addition as they feel connected

In the translation of the Schkopi article I noticed this bit about the Sony/Warner contract that I’d not seen before. “2021 will not escape the rule and will mark a First since Sony recovering the commercial exploitation rights of the back-catalog for the period 1978-1994 for the United States, this next set will be distributed by them for the country of Uncle Sam. Nothing will change on the other hand for Warner and the rest of the world, since it will always be Prince's historic record company that will be at the helm, including here.” Does this potentially mean that if D&P is the next deluxe release that it’ll be a Sony release in the USA but a Warners one for the rest of the world (or not released apart from in the States)? Likewise for W2A? There may or may not be something coming!

Since with D&P we're now dealing with material that is nowhere near as consistently strong as SOTT or 1999, there will need to be something really extaordinary going on in the supplemental material to justify charging near the same as SOTT and making this venture economically worth it to produce.
If there were some truly sensational unreleased songs, that would certainly help justify it (in fact, that's basically a requirement). But another great option is for Sony to do a BluRay version that includes an alternate mix in 5.1/Atmos. Unlike much of the music on the 80s deluxes thus far, this is actually a heavily produced album that could sound awesome in surround. That might help tweak its huge thundering presentation in a way that makes it far more exciting to a lot of people who think it's dated. This kind of thing is happening a lot more in the last few years, including releases by The Beatles, The Band, and others. Here's hoping!

Please Mr Estate, add a whole CD of "Originals" tracks to the Diamonds & Pearls SDE box set. Thanks !

i get your point, but it wont make any difference for the price. Unless their is less material on it. Diamonds and pearls was very successful at the time. whether the material is any better or worse wont make a blind bit of difference. Just to your enjoyment of it, but after you have bought it! I will still be first in line to buy it like most prince fans.

Hopefully Hot Summer was scrapped and not included on the final configuration of W2A...If it was ever intended for it, as Princevault claims.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but isn’t 51 hours (with Diamond and Pearl) a D&P unreleased out-take ?

hot summer is ok, quite catchy, and i like the synth line on it, but really just another one of his inconsequential songs from this period. the production is also kind of dated (sounds like its from 95/96). the W2A album will just be for really hardcore fans but it wont really be of much interest to anyone else. I understood that it was originally intended for 20TEN and that the original concept for that project was two albums composed of ten tracks each - hence the title. 'Hot Summer' was on the disc Prince scrapped. It could be an unfounded rumour, but it does make sense of the album title. The Welcome 2 America album was produced by Morris Hayes, so if 'Hot Summer' does make an appearance it's likely to sound different.

- Hey big mouth ! Did I mention anywhere that it needs to make room for other stuff ? Did I mention that 'stupid' idea ? Read, and stop whining. Oh I love this ! Still, I'm a big fan of your spitting words, dearest Bart. Peace though. -

- You really have to read what i said in various threads, multiple times before. I have no problems with the price. Never had. I earn well my money, and never whined about that. And another thing, i also siad it many times, that I'm in for the vinyl boxes. I barely ever buy CD's, also often mentioned that here on the .org But hey, it's OK. Peace though. ... You know, even if a 25 LP box costs a 1000 $, I would still buy it. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Morris Hayes produced the album but not all tracks on it. He confirmed there were a few he didn't touch, for example Stand Up & B Strong (his words were "I didn't touch that one, I didn't know what to do with it"). I think someone's who's got an award-winning cousin interviewed Morris about it.

If the estate (or people affiliated with estate) read this please can we have no more socio-political-cultural commentaries included in the liner notes of any future releases?
The one that was included in SOTT:SDE was shockingly bad and out of place. Stuff from people who were there at the time with Prince is great. Susan Rogers was really great, for example. But PLEASE no more of that awful other stuff. Even if it's Chaos and Disorder SDE. The Earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.

It's unconfirmed, but on a different forum a usually reliable source is claiming there are eight CDs worth of unreleased music from the time period, each clocking in at nearly 80 minutes. Whatever, I think there will be at least a handful of songs we're not familiar with as has been the case with the previous SDE's.

Not liking something or not wanting something doesn't make you a hater. Grow up. Anyway, I'm curious what they have in the vault but I have a hard time believing a Super Deluxe of D&P will sell. If 1999 and SOTT had moderate sales then...

What part of "Diamonds and Pearls is one of the biggest sellers" doesn't make sense to some people on this forum?
https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2017/04/20/top-10-best-selling-prince-albums/
Diamonds & Pearls is the only real choice. Batman is a soundtrack so they have the rights in perpetuity. ATWIAD is just Purple Rain outtakes plus some random one-offs anyway so what the hell would an SDE of that even look like beyond his demos for others?

- That was what I was trying to say. Yes it was a big sellen, BACK THEN. So that's thirty years ago... just wandering if the majority of the non die hard prince fans are still up with this. He was more famous for his 80's output than for the early era of the 90's with D&P for instance. Tracks of that album were barely played in the last 30 years. Which is absolutely not the case with his 80's highlight period music. Maaybe the title track, might be known to some (not Prince fans), but I really doubt it. Before anyone starts, I'm not a hater, I'm a huge Prince fan, and will surely buy this thing, but i never liked that plastic commercial sounding album. Like homesquid says: not wanting something doesn't make you a hater. There is no (or should not be) such thing as black and white answers in a debate or comment. - I really wish it was Parade, cause it fills in the gap to SOTT, right there when his most prolific era was at the top of everybody's game. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. - It wasn't aweful to me. I really like it. It was surely meaningful for those who like to study or know more on the history of black music and culture, and the part Prince played in that. - I can agree on leaving it out in a Super Deluxe version. They could make it available on the official website. For that I understand you. - If it's D&P, then ther's brand new technicians who will talk. I do hope they keep us informed with those fantastic podcasts. That was THE best thing / idea ever imho. And the only thing, I wish they wer even much longer. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Further, everyone my age knows that song. They may even know Gett Off and Cream. The org never has objective voices because everyone's been a Prince expert for 30 years and now they all know what really needs to be released. I actually think Prince hardcore fans are the worst people to ask because they'll have you listening to the most inaccessible shit that seems tame to them because they've invested a hundred hours listening to edge case shit like The P.

- True. Wrong, not everyone die hard is a Prince expert. True, they are the worst, AND the best ! True, inaccessibnle shit and even worse. ''THE P'' just is Prince's best song ever written. lol - Please, just understand that there are as many different Prince fans as there are released and unreleased songs by Prince. All of them with their own opinion. It's rightfuly up to every one of us to make clear what we like or dislike. What would this site be without the hardcore fans and the haters, and the likers and the followers, and those who never say a word ? Pürple democracy. That's what it is. -

Oh, I mean no disrespect to folks. I know these forums are just a way to engage in an endless stalemate over "why I love Prince and why you should love him this way too" and it isn't designed for actually changing opinions much. I just think this two pronged approach is smart. An unreleased album for the hardcores and the curious newcomers, and an SDE of one of his biggest albums ever that dramatically changed the course of his entire career. I will also go on record stating that D+P has some of his best outtakes outside the 80s and the big band feel of the material is incredible.
