We havent had a brilliant Prince album in a while. This is the man's finest hour. What an invigorating and cathartic experience listening to this is.

"Dorothy Parker" with horns is real interesting. Some sections seem improved, though I do think Prince made the right call to nix a lot of that stuff. I wonder if the ideal would be somewhere in between. Think I'm gonna play around with the classic version and this and see if I can't make a cool edit of them mixed together! WARNING: ALL MY DREAMS fans, TAKE HEED! If you, like me, have utterly adored this classic track for decades in pretty decent bootleg versions, here’s what NOT TO DO when you introduce yourself to the official recording for the first time. Don’t decide to chuck it on coming back from the gym, thinking the park is deathly quiet and it’ll sound great right here, right now. It won’t. I had to turn it off, just the click of the zip on my backpack ruining the experience as, presumably, the wind was blowing it around behind me. No, you don’t want that. Then to come home and put it on free of all aural distractions. And the damn zip is still making a racket. It’s the song! I like to think those earliest bootleggers had a similar experience and snipped it out before sharing it with the world. Good on ‘em. There. I’ve done my bit for the Org.

The horns on Ballad Of Dorothy Parker come in way too early.... Should let us have time to breathe one measure then do it

I think Power Fantastic is a different vocal take.
On the SoTT SDE version he tells Eric to "keep soling" during his flute solo, then asks for a change of chords at the end. His vocal says ... "your a little apprehansive ...", and says "ending" to close.
On the boot version, there are no directions given, he says "your a wee bit apprehensive", and there are no "ending directions"
To me the music sounds the same though. I think the SoTT version is the first version, and the boot could be a rerecording of the vocals
The version from B-Sides is the edit of the boot version, as the lyrics say "wee bit apprehensive"
Just my thoughts ... | |

Don't know if this was mentioned, but listening to Can I play with U, it seems that "No!" scream at around 1:00 is sampled in Alphabet St.

And I still adore it after ten-ish playbacks.

Jus having a proper version of IALRWNL makes it worth it. A clean and clear version of Can I play w u is also amazing. Sure, like the live performance the potential of the collaboration was higher than the product, but we had that initial reaction years ago and now can appreciate it for what it is (both of them) - and that's an exciting listen , for me at least. I love this version of ICNTTPOYM, every time. In fact, I enjoyed the NYE performance more having heard this version coz you can feel how the energy of the original one informs his performance (well, felt that way to me). As everyone's said, clearly hornless BODP was the right decision (basically a truism) but fascinating hearing this version. I was expecting something else, more cheesy. This is interesting in its own right. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

- I read something in this BBC6 article I never came to think off... Why the colours 'Peach And Black' were so obviously reffering to: 'Susannah=peach and Prince=black''... - ''Colour You Peach And Black...'' The cover shoot : Sign O' The Times introduced Prince's new peach-and-black colour scheme (peach representing Susannah, and black representing Prince). The iconic cover was shot by Jeff Katz, at just 24 hours notice." - https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54203180 - Is this invented by BBC6 or did anyone ever stated that as a fact ? Pretty cool little piece of knowlegde as I come to think of it though, if it is true. Anyone on this ? -

- The horns ad something like another story to the music. I Like that. Both versions are worth having. The only thing that mothers me is that the version with horns sound like the complete known recording is mixed way to te back. Or am I the only one hearing this? Its hard to concertrate on the actual known song and what is happening there. Would've loved a mix with the horns more put deeper in the mix on both channels, and keep the known song right in the middle, instead of a prominent role. - [Edited 9/30/20 1:46am] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Yeah, I think the horns are just too forward in the mix. If they were more subtle, that would make a helluva difference. "I like to watch."

Yeah but that's on Prince, there was nothing to do about it. I mean we can't complain that what Prince left is what it is. I mean we can, but there's no point. But I agree: it's a very odd mix, at first I was convinced it was a Bolas recreation (same with Blanche BTW).
