Just realized its sampled off the end of a final mix of "Can I Play With U" the collaboration with Miles Davis... where the last Prince vocal is the "No!"

But that's from somewhere else even earlier, isn't it? I can't remember.

Never really occured to me but, yes, now that you mention it, it does sound a lot like it.

Most of you already know but Reznor samples Alphabet Streets car screech on Pretty Hate Machine & Robert Plant has a prince sample as well

amazing find. Could be well true. Somebody with a few minutes and some decent sound-software can do the test.

I had noticed the similarity before, but you're right: it sounds like a direct sample (at least when the speed is correct).

Which cost them a surprisingly huge (in my opinion) amount of money. I´m surprised that they still cherished and celebrated him even after those sample issues.

Prince didn't take any of their publishing though, which was graceful. One-time sampling fees were more common before the landmark Biz Markie/ Gilbert O'Sullivan ruling.

I know Sting took all the publishing for "Lucid Dreams" but not "I'll Be Missing You" (which STILL gets played, so maybe he changed his mind after that).
