I think I'll use two 4CD boxes and store the booklet thing, packaging etc separately.

Did anybody read the heavy booklet?

Should I invest some time there, too?

I haven't cracked the pages on a single Prince book I've owned over the years.

They are BRAND new....still.

I know........at some point I will check them out. I'm about 50 books behind including the Prince books.

A couple of my discs had very, very, very light scratches on them but nothing that interferred with playing. When I first opened the set up one of the discs had slid down behind the heavy paper cutout that was supposed to hold it and was stuck halfway behind the cd next to it. Good thing neither of them had scratched because I definately would have sent it back.

I may end up doing this myself but they're going to take up alot of space......

My CD set arrived, every single disc has scratching and scuffing of somesort on, outrageous considering £150 was spent out on it. I am unsure if sending it back is worth it or not, as can't see a replacement coming back 100% unscratched either. The scratching has occured at the factory process, could not really fault the way the set was boxed up for posting by Amazon. Looking on discogs and about the internet it seems a lot of the CD sets are scratched. It was meant to be my birthday present, but am going to have to listen to the whole thing right now to check it all works okay otherwise the return date will have passed if any issues.

I don't know if there is a topic about disc issues (maybe will be good to open one) because i see a lot of people having damage discs. In my case, one of the disc is duplicated so another one is missing.

In my copy i have 2 Vault Tracks CD#2 and the disc is missing is Vault Tracks CD#3.

OTOH:

Besides the size, weight, etc the book is not really practical as a means of storage for discs.

A jewel case one can handle with one hand.

For the book one needs two hands to pick the CD from the book: one to slightly open the enevlope-type design and the other to grab the disc which sits flat to the page.

So the design team did not consider practicality at all. No kudos for them.

The music is in the back, so it is not in the front, i.e. not important.

The tracklist is not on the back of teh book. It is a separate sheet which will go lost or damaged, etc.

So the book only had to look luxurious.

Why not make a book and use four 2CD boxes?

And perhaps a separate one for the DVD?

Too hard to think about that, about consistency, about usability, about quality when everything is a one-off.

The audio is quite OK, no complaints there.

The setlist I need to dig through to find missing items.

Should the clumsy money making thing (SDE) go above Prince's intent?

Prince's intent was to release 'Crystal Ball' (and yes I agree that they should have done that instead) but Prince's intent was also to leave the unrealeased music in his Vault so we wouldn't have all of these recordings. So why did you buy this set if you're so hung up on Prince's intent??

Someone else in here had the best idea for this set (or actually mutiple sets) that would make everyone happy, but that would mean The Estate, Sony and WBR all have to play nice with each ohter and work together and that will probably never happen.

His idea was:

- RSD release of The Flesh album with extensive liner notes

- A Parade SDE combined with the full last config of the Dream Factory album and outtakes from those sessions (Clare Fisher versions etc) single edits/B-sides/remixes, concerts audio and video and extensive liner notes with detail on these albums and configs.


- RSD release of the Camille albumn with extensive liner notes

- A SOTT SDE combined with the full last config of Crystal Ball and outtakes from those sessions, single edit/B-sides/remixes, concerts audio and video and extensive liner notes with detail on these albums and configs.

I really think this would be the best releases ever but will sadly never happen but I'm still glad we at least have something.

As if they can read my mind as to what they should do.
It's not a problem with our mindset but with billionaire companies not playing nice and incompetent people running The Estate.
They don;t listen to us and they fail to be transparent to inform us, they don't care, this way makes them money and they even get praise, so why change?
