what a ridiculous money grab by Prince's estate... this thing is a bloated mess. Very disapointed in some of the songs they threw on this
love the remastered album obviously but man these other songs suck... they are merely ideas
Ughh not the way you continue to build on Prince's legend/egacy
Stop trolling
You know what... I think I was just overwhelmed by the volume of material. I need to give this thing the time it deserves. Sorry fam... cut this long time Prince lover some slack

Oh, I can "discern" just about anything and everything - including the difference between MY opinion, versus the facts or a general consensus - which seems to be your issue here.

Do you try to equate a 'consesus' with facts?

Nope. Read my post again. I stated "facts OR consensus". I did not equate the two terms. However, I do measure "general consensus" against one or two opinions, which is exactly what's happening on this thread So, BYEEEEEEE |

Facts can be different from a consensus.
Unless there is a consens about facts.

So how much slow is the live show?
What songs are missing?
What is the practicality of the physical design? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Bolded: ALL YOUR OPINION AND NOT FACTS OF ANY KIND, nor are they the general consensus of the posters in this thread. In fact, I've also read rave reviews written by music journalists, and those who have much more clout than imagine you do - unless you actually write for a credible media source, which I highly doubt.
*
Here's a GREAT idea - instead of continuing to post so you can have the last word on this thread, how's about you actually come up with legitimate and functional design plans for the next big release. I'm sure you can locate a valid email address with which to send your design plans. Or, how about submitting your resume with qualifications and references to the Prince Estate as a possible hire?? Who knows, maybe they'll bring you on as part of the staff for the next one |

Depends what route the conversation had gone down.
From the sticky about threads being removed :
** When Threads Are HIDDEN -Please READ **
Addressing the PMM community specifically
.
The question is constantly asked (and constantly answered), why was this or that thread REMOVED/DELETED; and people usually go into a questioning Mod/Org intentions or judging moderators/moderation. We hide threads when we receive a request of moderation by people taking part in the discussion(or sometimes people just watching the discussion)
.
We hide it so we get a chance to look into the issues, if it is not something that is really obvious and can be handled in 1 snip. Sometimes we need to/ask another mod to look at the issue for a 2nd opinion. We hide threads to stop people from possible or continually commenting on the post in question. Which of course, if we have to Snip things, that means we have to make notes, as well as locate and snip all post that replied to the offending post. If it is a totally inappropriate thread, it will not be reinstated.
.
So I hope this solves the mystery of 'why was this or that thread removed'
This applies everywhere on the Org
PLEASE: We don't need 10-30 people orgnoting us to find out why it was hidden. This is volunteer work.

I feel like the more I listen, the more audio issues I hear. Just now I noticed at the beginning of Love And Sex you can hear the sound of tape speeding up. And what is that at the beginning of All My Dreams. I didn’t notice any sound issues with the 1999 SDE "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." |

Some glitches here and there don't bother me. I hear them, too. They're to be expected. Given how Prince took care of his vault, I'm not surprised. There's the problem of the tape themselves as well: the quality of more recent tapes was sometimes inferior.

I just think when so much thought (and money) has been put into a project, and then there are sloppy, easily fixed audio issues, you’re kind of missing the point of a remaster set. Another example is the tape squeal at the beginning of Power Fantastic. I mean, why?? It doesn’t bother me enough to go and make my own edit or anything but it just comes off as really amateurish, when it should be as perfect as possible. Not that I don’t love and appreciate the set, as we are lucky to be getting it. But just take a sec and make sure things are kosher before it goes to print. Hell, I’d do that for free! WRT All My Dreams, I played the bootleg version and the sound I hear is more buried in the mix, so I guess it was intentional. That sounds like a tape spool in need of oil or something. Got my box now. Was surprised by how large the thing is. In all honesty, I would rather they have knocked £50 off the price and done away with the elaborate coffee table book. It's nice to flick through and definitely a beautiful item for collectors, but at this stage in my life, it's really just about the music. I wanted to own a physical copy not for the book, but for the actual CDs, as I own every Prince album to date and the completist in me would've felt annoyed asf not owning this.
As for the musical content, well, it truly is a revelation. The album remaster itself is a massive improvement (the mastering on the original CD was horrendous and perhaps the worst of all his albums, so unlike many remasters, this one was badly needed.
I haven't watched the DVD yet or listened to the live show. For me, this is all about the unreleased shit.
The main highlights for me are:
* Forever In My Life early vocal run-through version - Perhaps the greatest surprise and treasure on the whole set. Just as essential as the finished SOTT version imo, I think in time this may become the definitive version of the song for me.
* Adonis & Bathsheba - I previously had a low quality boot of this track and it didn't do much for me. The version on here is superb and one of the main "why the f was this not on a main album" moments on the set. Epic track.
* Love & Sex - This is strong enough to have made a great single. Would've made a lot more sense as a single than If I Was Your Girlfriend did. Incredibly infectious chorus.
* Eggplant - Not sure if this was bootlegged before, but I hadn't heard it before now. Fantastic track, sounds very The Family/Parade era to me.
* Emotional Pump - Great track. Very funky. Would've gladly had this on SOTT in place of It.
* It Be's Like That Sometimes - Nice chilled groove. Would've been a solid album track. Definitely hear the similarities others have noted to Elephants & Flowers, but I think I prefer this. Even though it's older, it sounds fresher and less dated that the latter mentioned track.
* Wally - Beautiful track that gets better with every listen.
* Cosmic Day - Again, I had a rough version of this on a bootleg, but it wasn't good enough quality to enjoy. This is another track which I would've liked to have seen on the main album. Just so Prince.

Yep. If it helps, imagine you've snuck into the vault yourself and you're pulling these songs off the shelf and listening to them as-is.

Can't you acknowledge the glitches and enjoy the set?
Ignoring them flat outright gives the message Prince fans don't give a fuck what the estate serves them, they'll call it ice cream regardless... Why should they even bother to put any effort into anything if that's the reaction? |

That makes it even more irritating, because in that fantasy Being Michael Howe RPG scenario they'd definitely get fixed shortly after pulling off said shelf... [Edited 10/6/20 16:36pm] |

I must admit I'm not bothered at all with this tape squeal sound. It means: there you have it; the whole recording. The raw recording. The studio chatter. Everything. It adds to my enjoyment of the experience. Same with the acoustic/demo version of "I Feel For You".
.
Also it doesn't prevent me from enjoying one of his best songs ever, as is the case with the tape warble on "Wally". It doesn't interfere with the music itself. [Edited 10/7/20 0:19am] |

I understand your point from this perspective -- the fanbase pays a lot of money on the SDEs and legitimate critiques can be good feedback for the Estate next time. Especially if the issues are fixable.
But as olb99 pointed out, the source material is decades old and fell into disrepair. Maybe Prince never intended them for proper release in the first place. This was not an easy task.
But at the same time, if these releases will be available to stream on subscription platforms like Spotify, then fans that don't want to pay hundreds of bucks on future releases don't have to, if the glitches unnerve them so.
And overall, the sets sound terrific.
