. Yes, it's some kind of statement. If you'll notice, she's also in an elevator. . This is her statement to those that didn't like the tribute she did last night. Oh geez. Hm. Interesting. I hate to sound nutty with all the Illuminati stuff but Sometimes...??? Sorry I was on this thread earlier and didn't realize this was already being discussed and just posted. I'm curious to see the performance now to just try and catch what her reasons might be... But I still can't watch it now. Surprise, surprise.

. Her career isn't over. She can still sell out stadiums in many places, most likely. By most standards, Prince's career was over too. And don't get me wrong, I have thought Madonna was untalented (at music and art in general) since the 80s, but she made a big career out of working with talented artists and taking credit for their work, etc.

She's wearing all purple and holding what looks Like a purse (but also looks like an old school dr bag) ...the bag says dealer on it. Is that some kind of message / statement ? Some people on here believe it is an Illuminati message, the imagery in the performance and possibly Dealer is a clue. Others believe message is "deal with it" which she posted on Instagram which is a common phrase used when dealing with disapproval. I'm not sure. I just creeped her Twitter. She has the same bag in a picture of her walking down stairs, you can see the word Dealer and her tweet is something about "so much to deal with when you're a mother". Was taken on Mother's Day... So... Who knows. How weird though. Bet she has an album coming out. Surprise, surprise.

I think that some of the imagery is inspired by the Senead O'Connor video of Nothing Compares 2 U. On the other hand I had forgotten that she was into Kabbalah, so who knows if what she did in terms of the background video was malicious. Maybe Billboard only allowed a short time frame for the tribute and she did what she could. My main complaint is that the tribute seemed half-azzed - I was expecting more speeches about what Prince contributed to entertainment, more about how he got his start, more performers - that sort of thing. I could tell that she was nervous or maybe she was emotional. Hopefully, Madonna can tell her side of it soon.

Wonder if it was more a slam on SO than anything. Hey look Sinead, now I'm doing "the song"... All very strange. Surprise, surprise.

I believe Madonna's tribute was sincere (I actually enjoyed it) and she didn't expect all the negative responses. Her feeligs are hurt but instead of ignoring it all she's lashing out and being as hurtful as she can be. I think BET's response probably really stung. I wish BET would've taken the high road and followed the old saying "I can show you better than I can tell you" Madonna's just not built to take the high road, so the 5 year old has reared it's head.

It's her behavior afterwards that's distasteful. If her interpretation and tribute missed the mark, but was done with love and sincerity, then that's what would have mattered. She doesn't have a humble bone in her body, it seems. I think the gif of her dancing and the pics holding a dealer bag on FB and Instagram make her a very sad sight indeed. She can't get out of her own way, never could. But it's no surprise she doesn't understand it's not all about her, in this, it's not about her at all, and it's her behavior after the fact, that for me, negates any perceived sincerity of her intention or the performance. I hope this passes like a blip on a screen, she doesn't deserve another moment of attention related to Prince's legacy, the gifts he left for all of us and who he was as a human being. That's what matters, and people who know, well they see right through her. She knew from the outset the world had mixed feelings about her leading a tribute. Maybe she should take her own advice. Deal with it.
Thank u to all the lovely fans on here, reading your posts has given comfort and insight to a very special being, one I loved so much but realize I barely knew the tip of the iceberg about. My condolences to all who loved Prince so. [Edited 5/23/16 21:30pm]

I'm still trying to convince my brain or my brain is trying to convince me...just so strange. His voice sounds even better now! I'm not proud of this but I literally listened to purple and gold last night and loved it. Just listening to the voice. Still very sad about the whole damn thing

What I wrote to Madonna;
You mocked him in life by dressing like him, burning the Symbol, displaying DEATH in the cemetery, made fun that he needed a cane,(hips) wore crosses (JW), chose wrong song, and if that wasn't bad enough, mocked him in death by posting a picture of yourself in purple in what purposely looks like the inside an elevator carrying a bag with the word DEALER on it.
I just have one question for you, how come you hate Prince so much?

Its really amazing to me that people are making this thing about race. Even Madonna who mentions skin color on her IG. - For me this has nothing to do with race. This is only to do with who is more appropriate and talented to be in front of millions tributing Prince. - And for me Madonna is not a name I would have thrown into a hat. Point blank and simple. - To support my point, I don't want to see Janell Monet, The Weekend, or D'angelo do any tribute either. (I must have spellings wrong but I really don't know those people to know correct spellings). - But that's just me.
Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

Lady Gaga will be doing the tribute Then her fans can "deal with it" too "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

Madonna, you are irrelevant. You always were. Musically, culturally and intelectually. Deal with it.

He became an obscure interest decades ago. Didn't stop me from cheering him on. But this bish? She wore out a very thin welcome mat. She's acting Eddie Murphy doing "this is my band! Sexual Chocolate!!!". Sucks cause I really liked "Keep it together". Oh well. [Edited 5/24/16 4:35am]

for me, it's not about race - I would have been happy to watch Eric Clapton or someone of that caliber do a searing guitar solo in his honor! It's really about talent level, & she was nowhere near him, which is why it was insane for her to do the tribute. The ONLY thing they had in common was being megastars who were huge in the 80's. The only thing Madonna is good at is marketing. That bitch can't even sing her OWN songs, just barely learned guitar last night, she's just sooooo beneath him musically it's not even funny. But she's adored by the masses as a superstar, & Billboard is cheesy enough to fall for it, & the joke is on his diehard fans who know fuck well he's 1000x more than Purple Rain. For her to come out on a purple throne (as if she's assuming it), holding a cane, dressed like him, showing graveyard shit, & burning his symbol at the end?? It's like she's dancing on his ashes, happy to be the last juggernaut from that era (besides Springsteen I guess, but the 3 of them - MJ, Prince & Madonna - had a serious hold & just blew UP that era). Her "tribute" was an excuse to have the spotlight, which is tacky & vile. I hope she catches hell for this for a long time to come

Even if she has been carrying that ugly bag for a year why hold it in a picture related to prince? She knows about all the talk going around about Prince's demise, she's not blind or deaf. At its best it was insensitive and at it worst downright vicious. Also that bag doesn't send a great message to her young fans considering the connotations s with the word 'dealer'. She was sending a great big FU to his fans being the Queen of provocation as usual. As for quests words whilst I agree with the sentiment he must realise these people are also representing Prince's fans as right now we dont have a voice and they have a huge public platform. Madonna is not only letting prince down with her behaviour but also those who love him. Why didn't she put a stop to the graveyard pictures? She could have. Baby, you're a star.

Finally saw the performance... meh Madge. But I guess her ego had her thinking she could pull it off. And now she is the only one left of that time.
Well at least she picked the right song. Nothing compares. Cause no one can.
Any one person trying to sum him up is gonna fail. Prince was a little bit of this and an whole lot of that. I don't know one artist can do a tribute well by themselves. In order for it to be sucessful you would have to have the best of the best representing. Best Guitar Best drums Best vocals Best entertainer Best dancer Best piano Horns Funkiest and so on.
Hopefully BET will get it right. There should be no less that 50 of the best to pull this off. lol

That photo of Madonna looked more like a slap to Prince than to those who cared about him. I have no idea what she was thinking. The symbolism is just crass and coldhearted. Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

I have changed my mind, after reading others' opinions regarding things that I visually missed and just went over my head at the time. I was swept up by seeing Steve W, and when he choked up, I choked up. I sincerely offer my apologies. RIP Prince. We will NEVER forget you. Thank you so much.

Why is it the Time, Sheila and others aren't relevant - but the GoGos are (randomly) given airtime just before the tribute to play their one hit wonder from 35 yrs ago? Clearly there's a statement in that. Madonna made fun of Belinda Carlisle back in the day, in her movie Truth or Dare. We're watching some spiteful stuff. I get the feeling Madonna owns the BBMA's.
