PURPLE PICK OF THE WEEK:

1. Prince - STARE - Great song, already released on other sites - FAIL

2. some random song by some other artist - FAIL

3. some random song by some other artist - FAIL

4. Prince - FREE URSELF - great song, exactly what we wanted - SUCCESS!

(slightly undercut by the fact that it became available elsewhere within a few days)

5. a playlist of songs Prince likes - FAIL

80% failure rate so far.

.

#4. I'm sorry.

I think Prince is out of his "Colonized Mind" if he thinks that song will get people to sign up for the NPGMC part 2...I mean Tidal

Come on Prince you are slipping

^ It's not designed to get people to sign up. It's a tool to keep Prince featured on the main pages.

It was never even suggested that Prince would put a new song up each week. Even the title "Purple Pick of the Week" suggests he's just going to draw focus to other artists.

That's a rolling stone article.

Even OKPlayer only describes it as being "gems from his towering catalogue, some never heard, others only the devout will know, once a week".

Really???? ........He should be recording a new song each week and putting it up there...no rehashed junk or some rainbow children remix...I give it a month

I hate to sound so negative but he needs some good PR with his loyal fans

Luckily Princevault saved the original blurb - on Tidal:A "Purple Pick of the Week" section was also created, with a presence on the main Tidal homepage. The section was accompanied with the text: "Stay tuned for Purple Picks - new tracks, exclusives, rarities and more from the vault, curated personally by Prince."

As I've said before, Prince conventiently chose to honor only the 'and more' part.
Or the 'and less', you could say...

Exactly. The original wording would have been enough to entice several fans to sign up to Tidal. If the current wording was used originally, would those same fans have signed up? Same thing with the Tidal concert. Prince is on the bill, fans buy tickets, Prince is no longer on the bill. Its all just one big convaluted joke. And the joke is on us, the fans. Every time there is something new, an obstacle or cryptically worded caveat appears. Whats happening here is the same thing that happened with the Lotusflow3r website. Lavished with promises of this, that and the other, get the fans to pay up and sign up, and then move the goal posts. Same with the NPGMC. Pay for a lifetime subscription and then shut the fucker down. Once again, Prince fucks off into the sunset with cash in his pocket. And yet, every single time, fans come back for more, time and time again. At what point do we all collectively say enough is enough? Are we even capable of collectively saying anything? Personally I am going to start talking with my wallet, and it aint going to be opening up for Prince again.

Unfortunately there are still enough people in the world who want to hear Purple Rain in concert, so he'll always be financially secure....

So the original blurb also didn't guarantee a new song every week either then? and two new songs in one month is an abject failure (obviously)

Fans hear that kind of blurb and immediately make assumptions, which are then converted to promises. Oblivious to the fact they're hyping shit to levels it can't possibly live upto.

Fans signed up for the album. When the album was announced there was no talk of a "Purple Pick of the Week" This is bonus stuff... it's built into the subscription... which you can cancel at any time.

When did Stockholm sydrome become so common among Prince fans?

Tough question (not really I'm just building suspense). I'd say "rare" since nobody bought that album. Of course if you didn't buy that album then the song is also "new" to you. I guess technically since it's not avaulable on other streaming services... kind of exclusive too.

So D. all of the above?

But wait people; see how 'from the vault' is at the end of the sentence and therefore refers to everything before it?

So 'more' also refers to the vault, as in: more from the vault like concerts.

And yes, I'd take a blurb like that as a promise. That's how it works in the real world.

The fans that never complain are the ones with Stockhold Syndrome.
But most of them are of course the same ones who like Prince's output from 1996-now.

Well, you're assuming that intent.

So 'more' also refers to the vault, as in: more from the vault like concerts.

Again, you're tacking on the "like concerts" bit. Are you saying with hand on heart honesty you thought Prince was going to put up a full concert in place of "a song"? - because that's streching things even further.

So... after Crystal Ball, NPGMC, NPGOnline, Lotusflower and probably a couple of others. You read some marketing blurb and took everything that was said as a solumn promise. Even though he has a generally wanky track record with online stuff?

You keep believing what you yourself deem to be "Princes lies". You keep handing over your money time after time... but you keep expecting a different result? But you're saying I'm the one who's not living in the real word?

The thing with Tidal too. If you're not happy. Cancel. If in 3 months something pops up that sounds interesting... sign up for one month - you still get everything that's already been uploaded. Stare and FreeUrself haven't been taken down or deleted.

It's called a basic grasp of grammar. If I hired a lawyer and took this to court, I'd win.

The difference this time seemed to be to that he was supportive of Tidal.
Plus: no coming through would mean disappointing his friends/colleagues, not 'some executive record company suits'.
Let's see how that plays out in the (near?) future.

Lastly, I haven't spent a single on penny on Prince this century.
Not because I support illegal downloading, but because he hasn't made a single thing worth buying.

I can confirm, neither Hannah Welton nor Lianne La Havas (speculation) have touched my penis.

I'm just happy to have something rather than nothing. Do you think Prince is scanning Prince.org thinking "wow they fucking hate this... I should keep doing it"? I don't.

I'm not going to lie. It's a bummer when I check it and it's random female vocalist, or some silly short playlist. But so far 2 out of 4 - were new songs, + indifference which was a pleasent surprise. So for £0 I got an album and 3 other songs. Month two will be a challenge to live upto the same value. We shall see.

If fans think endless moaning will encorage Prince to upload a full concert or a flurry of outtakes. They're delusional.

If there is one thing we know to be true about Prince. He's a delicate little flower and if we're not nice to him, even when he's sometimes a trying little wanker. He'll just take his ball and go home. Nobody wins.

Surely I can't be the only one getting tired of this same cycle. Time after time. Prince releases an album, fans cry "This doesn't live upto my expectations". Prince abandons album. Fans cry that Prince isn't promoting the album they hate. Prince does last minute promo, fans cry he should have increased the budget on his promotional efforts for the album they hated. Prince puts a song on the internet for no reason. It doesn't live upto their expectations and fans feel strongly that Prince should know it doesn't make up for the T-Shirt the warehouse assistant his PA hired in 1997 forgot to pack with their (late) copy of Crystal Ball.

To be fair, I'm not sure you would. I don't think you can sue someone for poor grammar. Plus technically no contract has been signed. I doubt the PPOTW is integeral to the T&C of tidal and is probably supplied at discression. Tidal would likely obliterate you. But we're getting off topic. So We'll just go with what you said.

Without wanting to be rude. It's your money. I don't care what you do with it.

Although you have just illustrated you're complaining about something that you're not even paying for, and, which you led me to believe you were paying for. Which is kindof trollolol.

I'm waiting for the vault to open, which seemed to be finally happening with PR deluxe and now Tidal.
(Although I'd like to actually own the tracks, not just 'have' them on the internet.)

I wonder, if a company advertises in the newspaper: 'buy 1, get 1 free' and I show up in the shop only to find out that 'get 1 free' has been dropped... Could I sue them.

Maybe not in my own country of Holland, but in the US you can sue everyone for everything, right.
If I had money, I might actually consider hiring a US lawyer.
I'm still hoping that WB will do that for us/for me, with regards to PR. But maybe they had some intern check the wording/grammar of the contract...
