This whole Tidal thing is bollocks. I don't want to have to pay a monthly subscription to continue to be able to listen to things - I want to buy them, once.

Exactly.
I'm so disappointed there's a new Prince album out and I can't just buy it, In a shop, online... Anything else but signing up to a bloody transient facility, who knows what will happen to it, or Princes opinion of it.. Where will we be in a year when P decides it was a silly idea. And it's really overpriced. I won't pay, and I'd say there's quite a few like me.

Let's see what happens next week. He might throw a bone to the fans which are disappointed by Hitnrun, or he might release Hot Summer (as someone mentioned earlier). I suspect it will be something nobody is excited about and he'll lose interest in a couple of weeks...

This is where I get lost with stupid idiots when it comes to buying music... lack of patience or downright stupidity? have to sign up subcriptions? Just buy the god damn LP, CD or Cassette like the good old days... as one poster said it's like paying $77 for lotusflower again and I happens to agree with this person. Prince is a con artist these days with Love or $. Dunno

Be lucky if Tidal users get anything substantial at all. this week was Stare. Next week will probably be Indifference. The week after will be one for the old school, LRC live at montreux 2009... LGC Redux may show itself? Clouds? U Know? Maybe RNRLA? It will be the stuff that Prince thinks his "new" audience needs to hear. I would sincerely like to be wrong. Does Tidal have a streaming count against the songs? How many streams has HNR had so far?

It wasn't long before the cracks in those previous efforts became obvious. This new weekly effort could be a challenging commitment for anybody that has a history of being unpredictable. Seems like it's already losing the plot - the Tidal page has been updated w/new "Southpark" icons for each "era". Music?! I give it two maybe three weeks.

people have been acting like signing up for a free trial on tidal is so much effort, they just can't

with their poor tired selves biggrin soon they will want prince to come to their house and put the cd

into the player, press play, and take a bag full of loose change back home with him, because

anything more is just too much effort falloff however, it's NOT too much effort to start three
threads daily on the very same topic, asking just what exactly tidal is and does and wants lol

I don't get the hate on streaming. It's $10 a month. Imagine that you're buying 1 magical cd every month that gives you access to tens of thousands of albums.

He did and everybody complained that they couldn't buy a physical copy lol

Yes, and then the company goes belly up and the music you spent 100s of dollars on over the course of a couple of years is gone, never to be heard again, with nothing to show for the money you spent. I would prefer a physical copy, or a download, so that at least in 5 yars I can still groove to the music.

People keep bringing this up but I burnt all those downloads to CD and still have them. I know what DRM or DRM is but I nver had any trouble.

For someone who constantly preaches about the value of ownership of your music, this entire Tidal thing strikes me as hypocritical and I refuse to go down this road with him. I've been burned too many times in the past by Prince's half assed internet club scams - remember the $75 Prince NPG Club that we had to sign up for to get his album (forget which one), but they promised a download of the Album, T-Shirt, access to exclusive music videos including concert footage and first access to Tour tickets.

The only thing he followed through on was the downloadable Album. They never followed through on anything else and he shut the club down 4 months later - after he took our money. So I paid $75 for the album (I'm thinking it was the one before 3121).

The only thing I like about Tidal is it looks like there are a lot of rare Prince albums on there that I never heard of and would love to listen to, but nope. Not doing it, even if there's a "free" trial.

I think you're thinking of LotusFlower.com

I'd gladly pay for the stuff if he just put it out there. I have in fact.

I just started the 30-day free trial and I gotta say the sound quality, using earbuds on my Windows 7 PC, is absolutely amazing. For me, the free trial is worth it just to hear the "One Nite Alone" piano album. I plan to cancel after my trial is up, but I love hearing these bootlegs and hard to find albums.

What's so hard to grasp?

Get a FREE 30 day trial with Tidal (I have)

Listen to the album, a few othere niceties etc.

Buy the album next week when it's out.

Unsubscribe from Tidal before your 30 days is up, or consider staying with it. The quality is very good.

Done

Actually, my old NPGMC music still plays, never had a problem with it playing after NPGMC shut down. But with the NPGMC you had the option of d/l'ing it after you bought it. With Tidal, there is no such option, so you spend that 20 bucks per month, for a couple of years ($480), and the company goes belly up, and you no longer have the music to be able to listen to. I'm not interested in listening to any other artist on Tidal, only the Prince music, and that would be the only reason I would join. I can't imagine spending $480 on music I've already paid for just to have the option of listening to an album or two that I can't listen to anywhere else except for on Tidal. $480 for an album or two does not make financial sense. So, he'd really have to make joining Tidal be financially worth it to me. Now it makes financial sense for him to go through Tidal to distribute his music, because he would be paid. However, looking at other threads, it appears the CD will be available so I will get to listen to it, even while driving.

Well the purple pick is simply an associated artist that he likes. No real reason to keep Tidal, at least for me.

The song is OK.

I asume Prince had some input into the song.

sometimes i think Prince is trying to undo years of mysoginistic behavior lolololol - this pick of the week is another meowmeow sounding girl. this kind of tinny, thin voice makes me cringe.

you'd think he'd use this to display some taste in deep cuts that HE listens to. like really listens to.

Prince was clearly involved: according to her Facebook: "So excited for you all to hear 'Stones', my new single I worked on with Prince! Produced by the always amazing Joshua Welton with additions & mixing by Jordan McGraw & Edward Jackson. What an incredible experience working with such an amazing and inspiring artist and friend".

Now waiting for someone to rip it before it fades away.
BTW what's the link for the Purple Pick of the week page? I could only find that song thx to a google search after reading this, but no way to find the purple pick page on Tidal.

i've noticed that the purple pick of the week blurb now says:

curated personally by Prince.
