Sheesh. Where do Prince fans get these stupid ideas? Have they not LISTENED to any of his output? Clipped sounds, technical imperfections in recordings, horribly incompetent DVD releases, too loud mastering,... Since when are those signs of a perfectionist?

It's a common confusion. Replace "perfectionist" by "control freak" and you're closer to reality.

I wonder if Prince thinks he's a perfectionist. That would be pretty fucked.

i really like this. lost some of the older downloads when my computer died. my perfect prince world would be one wherein i could go to his website, click on songs i want to buy, download and burn them at home and have the full collection. just my 2c. btw i know the album has already leaked, someone offered me a (presumably free) link the other day. sad. imo, this is why prince is so shy about offering his work for public consumption. ...

Your argument is not exactly on-point.

Prince chose to stream HNR on Tidal instead of immediately putting it out there for sale. He chose to re-release the NPGMC albums, where he could've put them out for sale as well. Same goes for Stare, and Indifference, back farther to Octopus Heart/Menstrual Cycle and even a bit further back to Disco Jellyfish.

Prince, SELL THEM. Don't complain that stuff is pirated if you're not offering a viable alternative. And don't just sell them for a week and pull them down. Leave the stuff up there once it's up there.

.

i agree that ideally, he should just let people pay for actual downloads on his own website. streaming is fine, but i prefer a hard copy, whether i burn my own or someone else does.

Yep, just that change and now you're bang on the money. Most of the time, the two go hand in hand. But a perfectionist tends to have a smaller body of work, not the biggest known to mankind.

prince is a studio GENIUS... his skills in the studio are so layered until he thinks it sounds perfect for whatever he's trying to do... You're crazy if you think Prince just put out a bunch of songs he didn't try to perfect in the studio, you're looking looking looking like the Mack

Michael Jackson was a perfectionist, that occationally made classics out of his perfectionism

Prince is a creative monster that can poop out classics on his best days, as well as poop out actual poop because his tempo is too fast. Have you ever heard interviews from his fellow musicians and related artists? They all say he'd create something like 1999 after rehearsing the revoution for 3-4 hours, then the time for 3-4 hours... perfectionist? He just has a vision and follows his instincts. He is a freaking great musician also, that are able to put out high quality stuff without spending that much time.

Even studio techicians said he could lay each instrument on one take from start to finish, know where he was at any point, then walk out of the studio with the basic structure of a song in short time. This was in the analog times. No protools nudging wink

I think we all should support Tidal since it's Prince's platform of choice. I think he'd do better to stream concerts there on a regular basis. I honestly already have his entire catalog, so Tidal has nothing for me, other than the new album which is, definitely not my cup of tea, so again Tidal has nothing for me. Purple Pick Of The Week, is an interesting idea, but I have zero reason to believe Prince will put anything there for those of us who like his classic sound, so again Tidal has nothing for me. But, um, yeah, we should all sign up right away and give Prince our support, in case he might put something good up there, or ya' know, pull all the shit on a whim like he did Spoitify and NPGMusicClub before it.

you're wrong. It has plenty 4 ya, including his 'Indifference' video...And you can now listen to Sign of the Times nd all the old recordings in HI-FI... it sounds TERRIFIC!!! It would be great if he put his old videos on Tidal in Hi-FI

You can tell about Prince's Future , but his Past is utterly unpredictable

Perfectionist is a title that they give those who take forever to put out music...the opposite of Prince.

ie, that title does not equate with quality of work.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

.

"Forever In My Life": studio mistake.

Distorted vocal on "If I Was Your Girlfriend".

.

Etc.

.

Funny how you get proven wrong and then make up your own definition of "perfect". Why not just admit that you were wrong?

Whatever, the 'Purple Pick' needs to have its own dedicated tab, else it's redundant.

And yes, a new or unreleased Prince track would be good. I wasn't that impressed with this weeks offering.

Yes they were a studio mistake... Yet PRINCE liked the "mistake" enough to create two masterpiece's.
