useless to you, but apparently the providers of streaming music have data that says different. These are new times for most people with regard to how they consume music.

You need to know about context. New times for who? What's the demo breakdown for that streaming data? For Prince, would it be among the 10% of teens or the 90% of older folks who starting buying his records in the 80's? A new time. Fine. But the dude needs to know who his audience is as well. Beyonce's fans probably don't bat an eyelid at a Tidal release. Do you think all the Tidal complaints here on the org were from people just making shit up?

And the first exclusive is.... Stare, a track released only weeks ago elsewhere. Exclusivity personified.

I use streaming (Rhapsody, not Tidal) to preview which albums I want to buy permanently, or to dig through huge back catalogs of artists I'm curious about. Having exclusive content from Prince is just icing on the cake. I'd consider switching to Tidal if I was confident it would last. But I'm not.

awesome, something new to download every week.

Seriously this Tidal thing is retarded.

Spotify and other streaming services was the music industry's answer to illegal downloads. Pay a small subscription fee, enough people join then the artists get proper royalties and people don't bother with free but illegal torrents.

In one fell swoop Prince has reversed this process. Everyone will just illegally download this if he is trying to hide it behind an over priced obnoxious streaming service that noone is interested in.

I hit google and had it in 5 minutes this morning. Do I feel bad? No, I don't. if he had he put it on itunes I would have paid for it, had he released a cd I would have ordered it on amazon. Pay JZ and his millionaire friends for a service that is overproced and obnoxious?

No thanks.

Prince, will you ever learn.

When has any venture lasted? The only constant is the inconsistency. Prince will fall out with Tidal at some point in the coming year. Just as true as the sun sets every day.

you just know that other 'vault' tracks will include loose ends from the npgmc, like
"splash", "funky design", "van gogh" etc.

other stuff might include "rich friends", "hot summer", "same page different book"
etc etc etc.

i could be wrong. but i doubt we will see actual vault tracks from before 2000, that

we know nothing about yet.

Kirky J remixes of tracks from HitNRun.

Or is that HitNRun Phase Two?

I don't see Prince giving any "gems" to Tidal. The fact that he mass-unloaded all of his NPGMC music points to that. It was already out there once, so why not release it again -- a no brainer. Same with N.E.W.S. and The Truth.

.

Knowing Prince, he will try to negotiate more money for playing something like The War, claiming that it equates to 5-6 songs.

Everything you read online about Tidal says that it's doomed, so I have a strange (bad) feeling that Prince will pour money into Tidal to keep it going.

Yup. It will be all the tracks that have no home on an album but have been released in the past. And maybe an occasional, previously released live snippet or two. We've been down this road before. I was going to say been there, done it, got the tshirt. But many didnt actually get the tshirt in the end. smile

His whole catalog is not yet on there. Many albums still missing that need to be on there. I will not be a 100% satisfied until that happens. Another bonus for me would be to get the Madhouse albums and 12" single releases on there. Oh and associated artists like The Family and Jill Jones.

It's his newest single that was a Spotify exclusive to begin with. Nothing weird about him promoting it abit on Tidal also. No matter how far away from being a classic it is, the song has a killer bassline. I love it for what it is. Educational for musicians.

i really like this. lost some of the older downloads when my computer died. my perfect prince world would be one wherein i could go to his website, click on songs i want to buy, download and burn them at home and have the full collection. just my 2c. btw i know the album has already leaked, someone offered me a (presumably free) link the other day. sad. imo, this is why prince is so shy about offering his work for public consumption. ...

I think we all should support Tidal since it's Prince's platform of choice. I think he'd do better to stream concerts there on a regular basis. I honestly already have his entire catalog, so Tidal has nothing for me, other than the new album which is, definitely not my cup of tea, so again Tidal has nothing for me. Purple Pick Of The Week, is an interesting idea, but I have zero reason to believe Prince will put anything there for those of us who like his classic sound, so again Tidal has nothing for me. But, um, yeah, we should all sign up right away and give Prince our support, in case he might put something good up there, or ya' know, pull all the shit on a whim like he did Spoitify and NPGMusicClub before it.

you're wrong. It has plenty 4 ya, including his 'Indifference' video...And you can now listen to Sign of the Times nd all the old recordings in HI-FI... it sounds TERRIFIC!!! It would be great if he put his old videos on Tidal in Hi-FI

I have no idea what standard 'Hi-FI' is. My guess is it's just a sales term. I don't keep up with the press releases, but the way I recall it was just that Tidal included an option to stream at Wav or Flac quality for 20.00 monthly, where Spotify and other streaming services stream at the mp3 level of quality for 10.00 monthly. Either way that quality would be no better than the quality of the original cd's and tapes.

Your argument is not exactly on-point.

Prince chose to stream HNR on Tidal instead of immediately putting it out there for sale. He chose to re-release the NPGMC albums, where he could've put them out for sale as well. Same goes for Stare, and Indifference, back farther to Octopus Heart/Menstrual Cycle and even a bit further back to Disco Jellyfish.

Prince, SELL THEM. Don't complain that stuff is pirated if you're not offering a viable alternative. And don't just sell them for a week and pull them down. Leave the stuff up there once it's up there.

Come on people, I hear a lot of hate towards our boy that has shared so much love with us. Prince is a genuine artist, that deserves a little more respect than the things I'm reading. I don't remember him pointing a purple gun at anyone and saying you had to be a fan. In other words if you don't like what he is doing, go do something else! The real NPG will always support!
Go on P keep doing your thing. Keep it Funky!
Peace!
