No big pronouncements from me about this--just that it was cool to open my email and see the news as the subject heading for one of my multiple daily (and usually ignored) emails from Spin (a leftover from back when they did their Purple Rain special and I downloaded the tribute collection they put together).
Though the main reason I'm posting is so My Org will send me to the new comments on this thread.

Is'nt a remastered album just one the record labels have reissued with the sound louder
I would like to see a box set with albums that never were released. Camille , Crystal Ball 3 LP etc. Yes some of the tracks have been released on various albums, but put them on one in their intended form at the time. Have a 12" collection with all the extended versions availabel on CD.
As for Purple Rain: My number 1 wish is do not remaster the tracks in to slow jazz numbers etc. keep them as is* and clean up the sound. *Release the extended version of Computer Blue is my number 2 wish. | |

A few things
1) Prince is the biggest Tease…if you play on his every word, it is a success for disappointment. I am contiually surprised by the reaction of some here - Prince since I heard "dirty Mind" is a tease - nothing more/nothing less.
2) A deal with WB to negotiate such a back catalogue has to take at least 24 months from inception – it would take at least 12 months simply to draft and agree such a contract.
3) My personal question – what is the fascination with Remasters – I love Dirty Mind (Sister included – respect previous poster). The reason I love these songs is because they are raw and analogous..
5) I get the previous poster about releasing “all my dreams” – but for me, after seeking out “charade” 30-odd years ago and then hearing it recently in top quality through the “fan” community…I will be saddened to see it homogeunised.
To throw "all my dreams" and the possible "benefit first ave warm up gig" for all and sundry - I know it sounds protectioinist - but it is "our thing".
I love that Prince has had integrity in his music, and not bastardized himself – my fear, this deal may turn him into the other two – Madoona & Jacko. - who both have merit but just not Prince!

Yes, it's a good day but the time to get REALLY excited is when this stuff is in your hands. I've seen Prince lose interest in a project umpteen times. I wouldn't expect too many remastered albums either. In fact, if it ends after Purple Rain I wouldn't be surprised...and I bet that's in the CONtract too. | |

Questlove asking to help compile the album is kind of a insult to Prince specially when Prince didn't ask for it. That's like saying he can't do it on his own. It seems he wants to makes things about him and find a way to be a part of Prince history. The sober truth is - it has been in the works for at least 24mths, with 12 mths to agree and draft the agreeemnt.
All the last 2yrs hasw been a very considered move on Prince's part.

Great News! I can't believe it! . The thing is I'm with some of the others who worry lyrics could be changed and/or re-loaded versions. Or even some of this "unreleased" material getting edited/omitted/cleansed or redone entirely. . Not trying to be a downer. I just have learned (or have been taught by Prince) not to get too excited. I take a wait and see approach anymore. Less of a letdown if things don't pan out. . If the full extended Computer Blue don't make it on the deluxe remaster I wouldn't expect much else. He knows how highly that is regarded by fans. . Still it's great news that I didn't expect. "Hey, I got the butta 4 ya muffin, honey.. I'm just 2 old 2 hold the knife!" |

warners are more likely to give him each master AFTER the album is remastered and released. so that makes it also likely that we'll get his first 10 albums remastered. warners must be keen to release remastered versions because everyone and their uncle have managed to remaster and rerelease even their obscurest albums so there must be some money in it for the company. / i'm confident that we'll see his warners catalogue remastered in the next few years. the only thing that is subject to wild speculation is 'the bonus content'. / however, if not now than when will he even have a better opportunity to make money from his vault? the remasters are great promo and vice versa. warners is distributing and pressing the cds. no separate deals for each album or release, all under the same deal. plus he gets to keep the masters to those bonustracks as well. / so that means these vault tracks would get a decent, mastered, cd quality release and serve to drum up more interest from the public, as well as the press having a field day writing about how amazing some of this stuff is that prince stacked up on the shelves for 20 years. / he'll never get a better opportunity to put everything where it belongs, tie up loose ends and for once and for all solidify his legacy. / but since this is prince we could also just get LGC Reloaded and a Josh mix of Take Me With U

Prince probably realized how much $$$ he was leaving on the table w/ the 30th anniversary coming up if he did nothing.

That's because after all these years and all the talk, if he's really going to do it, it's time to walk the walk. He may as well put up or shut up, go big or go home and school the masses on how it's done while frankly, shutting up each and every naysayer, myself at times included, once and for all! Anything less than that, well, would likely seem as though all the talk was just that...talk. He was really only waiting to cash out with WB and 'everything we think IS true'.
