Thanks for those links, I was expecting some dreadful boring performance going by the earlier comments. I'm critical of Prince too, but there was NOTHING wrong with that performance. I can't believe he did D-TRAIN ...that was off the chain! And that was a light funny interview.

yeah... that was the most relaxed I've since him in I don't know how long.. even the Tavis interviews he seemed a little rigid... imho
Can't find the Rosario Dawson clip on TBS.. Prince requested she be the other guest, she talked about how he called her personally to do the spoken intro for the re-release of "1999" back in '99 - and what an influence/inspiration he's been on/to her

It's ironic that Prince thinks music is devalued by free access to it, since he's been giving it away himself for years with concert tickets and newspapers.
Well you had to buy a conert ticket to get Musicology and you have to buy a newspaper to get 20Ten so that is not exactly free access when you consider no one makes any money when music is just taken from the unauthroized internet. A deeper understanding of marketing and the innovations that Prince has brought to it in terms of retail music would makes many of his "fams" alot smarter. |

LOL! My husband was really pissed at him while I was watching this morning....he said, "Look at that fucker's skin, that's not even fair at all! He looks like he's 30!". I told him it was LOOOOTTTTTSSSSS of makeup.
Yep, so true ... You'd figure all the make-up artist / professionals would have an idea of what P looks like without makeup, for example:

... not one of my favorite pics of P but, you can see he's not wearing as much make-up as he wore on Lopez's show but, I could care less. His mannerisms and characteristics are of someone in his 20's ... still ... |

This was a great show. Compared to the lip synching acts with all the lights, autotune and girl singers who can't hold their urine this was an honor to see on TV.
Prince and The Band gave viewers in TVLand a little taste of his live show which was great. Misty is lovely and P looked truly touched by the love the audience gave him.
My only little tiny complaint is I wish P had someone playing guitar while he is outfront without the guitar. I think that is a big part of his sound.
And Thank You for posting the TBS videos so we could enjoy it again. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page |

Wow! Now that was amazing! Laydown was awesome! I love the extended mix he delivered! (I suspect now Laydown as well as others from 20Ten may be released this year as a delux edition, While it's 20Eleven..Prince doesn't even believe in time..lol. So that might be a possibility!) The interview was intriguing in that I learned some things from Prince, I never knew existed! (Like the fact: 1) He's taking a break from writing music...[Self Described Music Rehab], (Although I question that..Haha, But this is good maybe he can release some old tracks from the Vault! I also learned that he forgets his lyrics sometimes..BUT I mean who wouldn't after writing hundreds of songs..lol) I didn't know her & Prince shared history together! Heck, I didn't even know she could sing much more on his Extended 1999 mix! I only say this because the audience seemed NOT to know what was the song performed.
^^well said!
i really DID NOT know that the last song was a cover...i thought it was a new song...
i also learned those facts that i quoted from eyejester7.
2 things i did NOT like was George Lopez doing Prince's scream...the 1st time i was surprised that he did it...i was like "wow! he did the scream. cool! " after that it got annoying.
the sencond thing i did NOT like was (yes im gonna say it) misty. and yes i did call her a thing. lol. i guess Bria is def. out of the picture which I think is sad since i had thought that he had finally settled down with her since they have been dating (according to wiki anyways) since 2007 and then poof all of a sudden december 2010 is the last time she has been seen. but oh well.
other then that i LOVED the show! i def. liked when Prince said "if i can stop swearing everyone can stop also". Love God. Love Music. Love Life. |

i agree, even as a big fan, i find it absurd that he hates covers, and yet covers songs himself.
I believe he was referring to official covers released on CD by other artists.
He's only done 6 of those in his long career...
I Can't Make U Love Me
Betcha By Golly Wow
One Of Us
La, La, La Means I Love U
Everyday Is A Winding Road
Case Of U
I don't count 'Purple House' since it was for a tribute CD.
That's not a lot of covers for an artist with his career span. Others with that longevity are doing whole cover CD's by this point.
If anyone knows more that were officially released feel free to correct me.

I tell ya - given how Lopez let Prince call the shots (telling Lopez who his guests would be, etc.), I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Prince was there at rehearsal, telling the crew exactly where to hang the lights and set the cameras so he'd look his most luminous. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I really missed the guitar in the second half of "The Beautiful Ones." If he had someone there to play that it would have added some needed punch to the song. |

He can take a crappy ass song like Lay it Down and actually make it sound good live.
I wonder if he can salvage Purple & God that way.

Well, if there is - it ain't in his forehead.
I was watching his interview pretty closely - and at one point, he raised his eyebrows enough to pucker his forehead. You can't do that with botox.
Now, that's not to say he hasn't had some at the top of his cheeks/corners of his eyes. But I honestly think he's just really trained his face so he knows exactly what muscles are moving at any given time.
You know that guy spends some serious time in front of a mirror - "studying his angles." He'd make Tyra proud. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I thought the show sucked to be perfectly honest...
I got really depressed after seeing it.
It was bad on so many levels for me.
George Lopez asked the dumbest questions ever.
Prince gave less than stellar replies because Lopez asked pedestrian lame questions.
The opening song was WICK WICK WHACK!!!!!
The Beautiful ones was 'Eh..' Prince has become a parody of himself in some strange way.
It breaks my heart to write this...Ahhhhhhhh!!!
And that last performance...I can't muster up the energy yo
criticize him any more on this....
I leave it at, I was disappointed.
