The band was a loose stool on every song. Diarhea. Prince himself was not quite up to his standards, but he was good enough. It's the band that needs LOTS of rehearsal. Prince needs a musical director, so he doesn't have to put in so much time with these cats. I'm a say it again, get MJ's old band, pay 'em right, and drop everybody in the NPG.

prince doesnt need mj's band, he needs a band like he had back in 01/02. That Prince and NPG would put up performances better than MJ could ever imagine smile

It's not about MJ vs Prince. It's about having a group of professionals that don't need Prince to do everything. MJ's This Is It band are guys that have played for a lot of people. I liked the way they played Prince's songs in and out of comemrcial breaks last night better than what Prince and The NPG delivered. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard a Prince band sound so bad.

Prince can be so HYPOCRITICAL......... lol

In this interview, Prince is talking about people shouldn't cover his songs, writing their own instead.

And then he's covering the disco classic "You're The One For Me".....

How hypocritical is that........?????

i agree, even as a big fan, i find it absurd that he hates covers, and yet covers songs himself.

??? What the hell are you talking about? Stop listening to music on your computer. I have the performance with a great sound. The NPG are really tight. John B is on top. The keys work is superb all throughout the performance. P's guitar work is fantastic. There is just the vocals on TB1 where you hear his voice is a bit tired.

Prince and his band's musicianship is simply bloody fantastic.

So tired of the haters on here.

I thought it was awesome and we were treated with a cool interview too. Instead of just enjoying one of the best musicians to ever live, some of you are hellbent on comparing it to this or that everytime.

Give it a frickin rest!

Wish I was in LA right now eek And where were the $25 prices in Oakland....LOL

My guess is that he's hoping to sell out some of the shows - so he can do at least a couple "afters" in LA.

I believe he was referring to official covers released on CD by other artists.

He's only done 6 of those in his long career...

I don't count 'Purple House' since it was for a tribute CD.

That's not a lot of covers for an artist with his career span. Others with that longevity are doing whole cover CD's by this point.

If anyone knows more that were officially released feel free to correct me.

Not listening through my computer. I'm listening in a pro recording studio. Tell me Laydown isn't an off tempo hot mess. Tell me The Beautiful Ones didn't feature out of place synth lines and breakdowns thrown in for pretty much no reason. Not to mention Mayte 2.0. The D-Train cover got off to an extremely shakey start, only to smooth out on the chant section, but go straight a predictable cheeze-fest with the jazz-salsa breakdown. Prince was funny though when he broke out his old high school marching band drum. smile I bet some of those LA shows will be pretty good, but last night was sloppy.

First off - I love George Lopez live but his show is just not that good so this was the first time I watched an entire show and damn his set is phat!!! Damn! Perfect for live performances.

Prince was awesome as always when he performs live. Period.

He looked healty and incredibly happy.

Laydown was very cool and yes its a new song truly since it was not released in the US.

Beautiful Ones was a nice touch and yes it was a bit off but his vocals are so bad-ass that the power of the song still came through. Love Misty being exposed to the masses via P and yes she is kinda like a mayte part II although she is truly talented.

The interview - A+ one of his best ever! He was relaxed, didnt fumble over himself and really spoke from the heart.

As Geroge and Rosie said LOVE. exactlyy! PRINCE = LOVE.

The final perfomance was yes a cover but once again lots of the folks mis-interpeted what he was saying about covers. geez people - clean out yo ears! Cool performance and the fact that he turned over the lead vocals to Shelby is awesome. He has always gone out of his way tpo showcase other talented performers when he is on stage! Sheila with George was fun and Prince with the drum was cool! Reminded me of SOTT on MTV awards many moons ago.

Bring the funk P to L.A. and artichoke the haters!!!

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

The interview was intriguing in that I learned some things from Prince, I never knew existed! (Like the fact: 1) He's taking a break from writing music...[Self Described Music Rehab],

Please, he's been saying that for years.

I also learned that he forgets his lyrics sometimes..BUT I mean who wouldn't after writing hundreds of songs..lol)

He's been playing the same songs for the past 15 years.

The Beautiful Ones was pretty awesome! The piano playing and his vocals were very sharp!

There was zero emotion in his voice. Hence: crap performance.

Well....TO EACH IS OWN! Remember my thoughts belong to ME, and what I feel. Your feelings are good enough for you, but it's not going to change my perspective. Hence: That's the reality of it.

yes but he has a problem even when someone covers one of his songs on their album. If i were a musician, i would be honoured that people were covering my work. And he has said he dislikes when people change his lyrics when they are covering his song, yet he changes lyrics himself like "i cant make you love me"

I enjoyed the show - great performance of Laydown - the whole thing, vocals, staging, dancing and great guitar work !! TBOs and the D Train cover were cool too !

What always surprises me though is the "Sheila was amazing!!" comments - I just don't get it !!

Don't get me wrong, I really like Sheila - thought she was a great band member for the SoTT and Lovesexy tours and so HOT ! I also like some of her "own" songs.

I can also clearly see the love she and P have for one another and that's great and so I'm always happy to see her on stage with him !

But "amazing" / "stole the show" ??? Really???

Does she not just do some minor backing vox and smack away at her percussion kit? I can see she puts some effort in, looks classy and has rhyhtmn and timing but c'mon, it ain't exactly in the same league as a killer vocal, dance move, guitar or keyboard solo is it?? Has her percussion solo actually changed in over 20yrs???

Not hatin', in fact luvvin - just think the love for her gets outta perspective - it's only a few steps away from Wally hitting the triangle !!! smile

There is only 1 STAR in this town !!! P !

BTW - hope everyone attending has a FANTASTIC time in LA !!!

when someone has been performing for 30 plus years, there are going to be nights when they are going to be "off", and after having watched the lopez performances, there is nothing wrong with it, not his best but far from horrible

Besides Prince, even at his age, is far superior live to almost any other act out there. His performances at the rock and roll hall of fame, superbowl, and cochella are some of the finest by any musical act in recent years. Thats why he sells tickets so fast despite no major label support.

Nobody is "on" every single night.

If Prince was such an awful live performer, how come his live performances at the superbowl, cochella, and rock and roll hall of fame are praised by millions?
