out of all the performances, i really enjoy the last song of the night

plus the interview, it seems like lopez is a fan of his music, so i respect him for that cool

i really don't mind prince performing songs that aren't his but since he was commenting on recording cover songs..what is his defense on recording crimson and clover for lotusflow3r and a couple of other cover songs recorded in the past?

P went on Lopez Tonight because both are in LA at the moment and wasn't enough of time planing ahead, I guess. Wouldn't make sense if he had to to to to Jimmy Fallon show because his show is in NYC. Jay Leno and Conan are probably all booked up. And P needed more air time, not just walking by like he did on the View.

Great interview, loved every minute of it.

I disagree, I think Prince made a conscious decision to be on a talk show headed by a Latino, to reach a larger audiance of color. I think that Conan and or Jay Leno would have happily had Prince on. Prince has been in LA for a while now, this is not as last minute as the Oakland shows.

I thought the part where George says "The Latino community thanks you! $25, we can get food, drink and Prince!"

I am a little jealous though cuz we paid BANK to see Prince in Oakland!!!! Sheeeeesh!!

lol i really like this guy lopez, not familiar with him in my neck of woods.. but the interview seemed so informal, the nicest i've seen prince do. it helped that prince is chilled of late but lopez seems genuine fun.

plus he made prince smile the sexiest smiles

i thought that part was soooooo funny! had me laughing so hard cuz i'm Latina so i was very surprised that Prince had lowered his tix prices to $25 for his L A shows. (Even tho i don't live in California but hopefully he will keep that price through out the rest of the tour.) If only he had started off with $25 since december in ny.

Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

the problem is prince will never choose a interviewer that will ask the questions the fans need 2 be answered even when tavis smiley asked him a direct strong question he avoided it by giving another answer that had NOTHING 2 do with the question asked

1. so when is 20ten going 2 be released state wide? or will the US get a deluxe version instead?

2. your tour is called to welcome 2 america and u have a song of the same name that u have done on occasion during this tour, when will this song and others be released if your in so called "studio rehab" again like u were when emancipation came out?

3. why do u continually promote ur back catalogue when someone of ur stature has so many other songs that u have done that are so superb but seldom played?

4. do u find it irony that u were in the warner bros studio last night? the same company that u had so much beef with in your career?

5. it's great that ur ticket prices are 25 bucks now, why wasn't this done in new york, new jersey and the carolina's?

What planet are you living on? With the record industry in the state that it is in I doubt P could find a major label to take a chance on him. We are not going to see a deluxe anything if he is on a recording rehab. Did you even listen to the interview?

1) Prince does not need a major label to release a deluxe version of 20Ten.

2) Presumably the deluxe version is already completed. It was discussed last fall and it seems likely that it was mostly complete when the "regular" version was released. He also mentioned being three albums ahead and we know there are tons of vault tracks, Prince could easily release "new" albums while still being in "recording rehab."

3) hug

and this is why the org has become such a pathetic site cause when REAL HONEST VIEWS about prince happen then comes comments like yours that say we hating.. if hating is Honest than call me a "hater"

here's something 4 u look up in what a real prince performance on tv should be shhh look up the leno performance of somewhere here on earth and then look at his perfomance of the beautiful ones tonight

So everyone who liked the performance is wrong. It is called an opinion and it really sounds like it is time for you to move on to another artist. P admitted to George that he sometimes forgets lyrics he is in his 50s but you are still bitching about it anyway. Time to move on.

Hey Laura, thanks for your nice support here...it's pretty sad that a positive comment like mine gets shot down, LOL. I think lots of artists have their words in front of them somewhere, so does it really matter that he has the words? I'm a lot younger than Prince and forget the words to songs sometimes, LOL smile

I learned a couple of things...

1) Prince has had his instruments stolen....

2) He doesn't mind if friends cover his songs...but when records companies use compulsory licensing to cover his songs without asking, he does mind....

I thought George did a good job speaking with prince...prince was undermiked for tbo's...

great performance.

Laydown sounds better live, when you're actually there in the audience. Totally sounds different, than what you hear from the tv set. I thought LayDown was a good opener, and energetic funk track, but to each their own of course.

Only problem is I think Liv was the one singing the "You need to.." part, and came in a tidbit late when singing that part, compared to what you hear on the cd. Overall love that song.

i had a 2nd viewing & as u say, the backing vocal is out of sync, it's pretty annoying lol

i actually really like the song & saw a clip of when when he opened with laydown last year (was it a NJ show?) the intro is fantastic, laydown makes a perfect opener!

but i wasn't feeling this tv performance, it all seemed a bit sterile? the rap daddy bouncing yoda rap attack?

it's frustrating when i know he is the best performer alive..

so 4 me, the beautiful ones outshone & was best of the bunch.

i feel maybe there was too much going on visually, sensory overload!

we got prince dazzling..3 outfit changes!.. blackwell & sheila going crazy on drums, misty kicking, the twinz flicking AND shelbey's bald head!..

it all seemed tres frantic

Yes, I like the track "LayDown" the energy in the song, and the funk beat, and solo guitar part. He opened the 2/7/11 MSG show in NYC with "LayDown," and the audience loved it. I think he opened one of the Jersey shows with it too not sure. I went to 3 out of 4 NYC shows, and enjoyed myself. NYC was bustling and overcrowded with tourists, because it was around the holidays. Even though I live in NYC, I stayed in a hotel each night I attended the concert, because I had no energy after those shows, and I wasn't going to wait on a long line for a cab, and was not taking the subway home. lol It was a fun time and I really enjoyed it.

I have major respect for Shelby J though, and it was nice seeing her take center stage. Everyone had a part in that number, and yes there was a lot going on, but it was the last song of the night, and it looked like Prince wanted to make a party of it.

lol Well, didn't you buy the $20 tickets plus tax/fees tickets, which was about $33, and that's $8.00 less than the $25 for the LA shows? That wasn't a bad price, especially for NYC. I think since you don't care for arena shows, you should stick to the small venue shows, which who knows if he may do that in LA? Ss get your airfare ready in case.

[Edited 4/14/11 12:23pm]

no i didn't get the 20 dollar seats since they weren't many offered ..so i paid 60 for each night i went. airfare 2 see prince again will only commense going 2 paisley park like i did in 2002. prince is better in a smaller venue anyway

Okay, $60 wasn't a bad ticket price. Well, I guess you'll have to wait until he decides to play in a smaller venue to enjoy it the way you want.

I find it really amusing that on this thread and many previous ones regarding ticket prices the main core of complaining orgers went all out and got either the high priced seat ($179.00 - $204.00 range) or straight up went VIP ($500 - $1500) and then also attended multiple shows. They would have never bought a cheaper seat in the first place. Still they find it offensive about the LA price(which has not been etched in stone for the entire 21 show run). I myself spent $800 on ticket for 3 of the 4 MSG shows, another $250 on swag and probably $150 hanging out with the coolest orgers ever(y'all know who y'all are!). It was a personal choice to spend the money. I could have easily went to one show and sat in nosebleed and saved $750. There was no gun to my head. There's not one to anyone elses either.

Just watched the interview and performances.

Loved them! Prince looked fantastic in that red suit. I liked the rapport between George and Prince.

I really really enjoyed all the songs and I thought Laydown was great.

Lastly, and I know some people will bash me for this but I'll say it anyway: Misty is incredibly talented and I think she's a class act...but I don't enjoy the ballet stuff during a Prince song. Sorry.

I am not rich. I spent nearly everything I had on the 6 Carolina shows. I would probably do it again if I could time travel. It does leave a bad taste in my mouth that the rich folks in LA get cheap tickets...and YES, there were floor seats for $25, which in this stage set up are not really all that bad behind the stage. He could have had the same price structure for the entire tour, but let's face it...he does not care. I'm happy with what I got out of the shows, but I don't think any less of myself because I complain a bit about his business practices.

As I pointed out somewhere else, I could have around 80 tickets to the LA shows for what I paid for 6, and that is worth complaining about, but not the end of the world.

I still have this opinion that people on this site only see two types of people on here...you either kiss every single move Prince makes on the ass....

or you're Bart Van Halen, and hate every single thing he has done since 1989....

I kind of like the fact...that I tell the truth, and give my opinions, despite the fact I have been burned like I am some sort of sore loser.

I had the guts to ask Prince once about the "Medley Disease," that he gets.....and it didn't go well. Not like I expected him to tell me he would start doing normal concerts just for me....but.... I've talked to other artists that said they would quit playing live if anyone in their band ever pushed hard for shortened versions of their songs. Sometimes you have to be willing to do the work..

All of the vocals were weak. Very weak. Especially on the Beautyful Ones, he sounded a whole lot better at the Garden. Also he looked very tired in my opinion, those bags under his eyes were something else. Maybe he's biting off more then he can chew with the 21 Nites ... Or juggling 4 lady-friends really is harder then it looks. wink

I'm still not on board with those gold sneaker things - just wear Easy Spirits if you can't handle heels anymore. And for God's sake, what's up with the completely monocromatic looks?! Half of the time he reminds me of Paris Hilton with her matchy-matchy pumps and purse. Shake it up Grandpa!

As for the interview, well I don't think it was that bad actually. For starters he didn't try to see a "Watchtower" ones, didn't pull out a stale cracker out of his pocket and wasn't a complete asshole. Over all a complete success for P lately. smile

P.S. Misty needs a new dress. And did she totally feel Prince up at the end of the dance?!

Did anyone else notice Prince's footwear during "The Beautiful Ones?" Those 6-inch heels disappeared! Were those flats? I'm not hating; I say, it's about time. He's been ripping his joints to shreds for ages, what with all the splits and all.

I thought this performance was an excellent start to the LA residency. There was so much going on I couldn't help but smile ear-to-ear. It was almost like the feeling you get watching fireworks on the fourth of July! lol

It was interesting to hear Prince address some of the very topics that have been discussed here. Prince came across as very thoughtful and intelligent plus it was just good to listen to his voice. He seemed genuinly excited about the appearance and the 21 nights.

Most negative comments are from orgers. Go outside the orgers to people who don't listen to Prince 24/7 and you'll see a much more positive reaction. Like Twitter.

Give me a break. It was not a performance up to Prince's usual standards. I love Prince too, but that was a sad performance. In my opinion he's working because he absolutely has to, not because he wants too. He seemed a bit out of it. We know he's had a very tough year with the lawsuits and the loss of his brother. I think tonight we saw Prince crack a bit under the strain.

Well, I guess only Prince can crack under the strain and STILL sound and play better than anyone else around in music today. Granted, maybe they weren't his strongest performances but why come on a Prince forum and do nothing but post negative comments about Prince??? Are you that starved for attention?

My guess is that he spoke with the composers or estates (in case the composer had passed away) before he recorded these songs. Case in point, I know the Jimi Hendrix estate ok'd the entire Tribute CD that Prince was a part of...with his cover of Purple House (Red House).
