Just a few thoughts...

I liked that he opened with Laydown. It's a fun, high energy song and casual fans were reminded that he's still making new music, (I still say he should've used it for the Vikings though). I'd like to see that song performed with more attitude in the future.

George should have asked if 20ten will get a US release. Other than that, I thought his questions were reasonably well informed.

It's obvious that he chose Lopez because of the level of control he was able to negotiate.

The interview turned out better than I expected. He seemed kind of nervous at first but more relaxed later on. As usual, not much new info comes out.

I love his chemistry with Misty and thought the performance came off quite well even though I've heard better vocals from him. Hope he got some rest.

The Dtrain song sounded good although I can't imagine his motivation for that song choice. When I saw Sheila I thought maybe they would play one of her songs, shrug There was a lot going on and I really didn't need the twinz on this song, but I thought Blackwell was impressive.

Shelby isn't my favorite of his various singers but she sounded good. Cruel comments about her shaved head are uncalled for...could be a medical reason for all we know.

Loved the red suit and the gold jacket w/black pants. The shiny gold suit...not so much. lol He sure looks excellent with a few added pounds though!

Overall it was well worth staying up for even though I was so tired today.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

That seems unlikely, she could always wear a wig. I think she is bald by choice. Nothing wrong with bald women!

The majority of the audience of this show has Latin roots, right? I really appreciate it to see P being sensitive and respectful towards the audience he plays for. The last song he did create that Latin touch.

And I value the way he communicates more openly about his take on music industry. I liked it that he stipulated he didn’t mind his fans singing his music, however, it was about the rights a writer has over his music.

He really has thought about his fams. He sells tickets for 25$. That's a great gesture. He makes his concert available to everybody, not just the few rich vips. Art should be accessible to everybody, not just the elite. His ticket prices are a great statement!!!!

I can see how Misty is a great dancer. Her 'tail' probably is designed to enforce her movements and turns, however, it's a thin line between arty and showy. Especially for a class dancer as her. I think she would be better of with a more stylish outfit that enforces the subtle moves of a classical schooled dancer. This outfit distracts from her dancing performance and that is a shame.

I like Shelby. The make-up and sci-fi outfit looked great on Shelby. She is a good singer and comes across as nice, sweet and loving person. However, the audience doesn't react to her. Maybe she has to grow into being herself and not trying to please people. I'm just guessing. Or maybe I'm just projecting me missing Rosie on her....

There is a big difference between experiencing a performance life and seeing it back. However, to me, P seemed more relaxed in Europe. There he gets appreciated about his music more. I do think in the US there is a different culture concerning 'famous' musicians. On one hand the person becomes an icon, and idealized. And then no flaws are allowed anymore. As if an artist is not human. My favorite performances still are those where he jams away, and enjoys creating music with other musicians, plays his guitar as he feels like it and doesn't feel threatened to be criticized. When he's like that, and he is relaxed and just plays music, that when he is at his best and then magical music.

I like to see him being more overt. He dares to be more vulnerable and I do like that side of him. The lack of support and focus on the positive on this site is evident. Some people think that focusing on the things they think were bad is a proof of quality. I think that it shows a lack of understanding, relating and have unrealistic expectations from P. It’s easy to lay back and point out negativity. It shows class to be able to relate, support and enhance a creative and constructive atmosphere.

However, critical self reflection doesn’t come naturally to most people. Criticizing others, especially those in the lime light, does seem to be the easiest way to relieve personal stress of daily life. Is it that hard to see and aknowledge what a great performer and more importantly musician P is? Yes, you are all entitled to your opinion. However, I do respect P his work and don't understand why people are that black and white about every thing he does.

I thought the show sucked to be perfectly honest...

I got really depressed after seeing it.

It was bad on so many levels for me.

George Lopez asked the dumbest questions ever.

Prince gave less than stellar replies because Lopez asked pedestrian lame questions.

The opening song was WICK WICK WHACK!!!!!

The Beautiful ones was 'Eh..' Prince has become a parody of himself in some strange way.

It breaks my heart to write this...Ahhhhhhhh!!!

And that last performance...I can't muster up the energy yo

criticize him any more on this....

I leave it at, I was disappointed.

Yes, you can always take a person seriously who uses the phrase "Wick, Wick, Whack"!

Did a Kriss-Kross concert break out in this mofo???

You can play blind man all you want but it doesn't change the fact that it was

not good.

I do think that there was a little stressy, afraid to make a mistake atmosphere. That is a shame. Everybody is great and when everybody on stage is having a great time, that shows. That makes a show great. It's not a perfect performance that sets the atmosphere, it's the love and fun the artists have while performing. When everybody on stage is having fun, than the audiance has fun.

So, yes, I do hope that everybody gets enough rest and laughs. That works better than wearing eachother out and be overly critical to eachother.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

The $25 ticket price was probably to compensate for the extremely short notice of 2 days. It would be unrealistic and an asshole move to expect people to shell out major dollars for such short notice shows. Also please keep in mind the prices apply to the 3 shows that went on sale so far. It hasn't been confirmed for the next 18 dates to come. Also tickets in NYC and NJ started at $20.10.

i heard only 50 seats were 20 bucks tho

Final reviews:

Lay Down: D- Nice guitar, lame everything else

The Beautiful Ones: D Nice opening, horrible vocals, laughable Mayte Jr

Lopez Tonight: F Worst talk show I've ever seen

lol Well, didn't you buy the $20 tickets plus tax/fees tickets, which was about $33, and that's $8.00 less than the $25 for the LA shows? That wasn't a bad price, especially for NYC. I think since you don't care for arena shows, you should stick to the small venue shows, which who knows if he may do that in LA? Ss get your airfare ready in case.

[Edited 4/14/11 12:23pm]

no i didn't get the 20 dollar seats since they weren't many offered ..so i paid 60 for each night i went. airfare 2 see prince again will only commense going 2 paisley park like i did in 2002. prince is better in a smaller venue anyway

I really enjoyed watching the performance. I was a little annoyed that P gave SB so much camera time/performance power during that last song. If anyone should have gotten more time to show off their skill, its Sheila E.

As far as Prince being fat...wow, just wow. brick That man is not even close to being fat.

To be fair NYC/NJ knew about the shows there months in advance. The tickets went on sale in October. Every other city has basically gotten a weeks notice.

I think it is a little funny how Prince thanks Livenation for the lower ticket prices and mentions that that is how cheap tickets used to be until Ticketmaster came along. It is funny because when you click on Find Tickets on Livenations site they transfer you to Ticketmaster. I guess he does not know that they merged last year.

P went on Lopez Tonight because both are in LA at the moment and wasn't enough of time planing ahead, I guess. Wouldn't make sense if he had to to to to Jimmy Fallon show because his show is in NYC. Jay Leno and Conan are probably all booked up. And P needed more air time, not just walking by like he did on the View.

Great interview, loved every minute of it.

I was puzzled by this one too. But I think he was referring to the recording industry who owns the artist's songs. I guess he thinks it's okay to perform other's songs live, but not to record (and take credit for) recording other's songs...!?

The law he was speaking of concerns recorded covers. Anyone can cover a song in concert.

i just saw the show, prince looked wonderful! perky, bushytailed.. heart

the beautiful ones was beautiful, the drama, i loved his vocals, the theatricals on top piano..he's so hot when he surrenders on his back

but i must say i think laydown & the cover were bad choices.. although the guitar was nice, the drum was fun.. those performances were a bit rough & shelbey just gets on my tits.

his last outfit was sexiest, lopez looked sharp in his shoes, i would really love to see prince bin the heels & start wearing trainers/cool footwear

Laydown sounds better live, when you're actually there in the audience. Totally sounds different, than what you hear from the tv set. I thought LayDown was a good opener, and energetic funk track, but to each their own of course.

Only problem is I think Liv was the one singing the "You need to.." part, and came in a tidbit late when singing that part, compared to what you hear on the cd. Overall love that song.

i had a 2nd viewing & as u say, the backing vocal is out of sync, it's pretty annoying lol

i actually really like the song & saw a clip of when when he opened with laydown last year (was it a NJ show?) the intro is fantastic, laydown makes a perfect opener!

but i wasn't feeling this tv performance, it all seemed a bit sterile? the rap daddy bouncing yoda rap attack?

it's frustrating when i know he is the best performer alive..

so 4 me, the beautiful ones outshone & was best of the bunch.

i feel maybe there was too much going on visually, sensory overload!

we got prince dazzling..3 outfit changes!.. blackwell & sheila going crazy on drums, misty kicking, the twinz flicking AND shelbey's bald head!..

it all seemed tres frantic

Hey Fantastic, nope it's not just you, there's loads of negativity here, reminds me of why I seldom post on the Org. I loved the performances, he looks great and I'm happy to see him totally have the audience capitvated as he enters into his fourth decade of his career. Well done, Prince!

and this is why the org has become such a pathetic site cause when REAL HONEST VIEWS about prince happen then comes comments like yours that say we hating.. if hating is Honest than call me a "hater"

here's something 4 u look up in what a real prince performance on tv should be shhh look up the leno performance of somewhere here on earth and then look at his perfomance of the beautiful ones tonight

So everyone who liked the performance is wrong. It is called an opinion and it really sounds like it is time for you to move on to another artist. P admitted to George that he sometimes forgets lyrics he is in his 50s but you are still bitching about it anyway. Time to move on.

the problem is prince will never choose a interviewer that will ask the questions the fans need 2 be answered even when tavis smiley asked him a direct strong question he avoided it by giving another answer that had NOTHING 2 do with the question asked

1. so when is 20ten going 2 be released state wide? or will the US get a deluxe version instead?

2. your tour is called to welcome 2 america and u have a song of the same name that u have done on occasion during this tour, when will this song and others be released if your in so called "studio rehab" again like u were when emancipation came out?

3. why do u continually promote ur back catalogue when someone of ur stature has so many other songs that u have done that are so superb but seldom played?

4. do u find it irony that u were in the warner bros studio last night? the same company that u had so much beef with in your career?

5. it's great that ur ticket prices are 25 bucks now, why wasn't this done in new york, new jersey and the carolina's?

What planet are you living on? With the record industry in the state that it is in I doubt P could find a major label to take a chance on him. We are not going to see a deluxe anything if he is on a recording rehab. Did you even listen to the interview?

I disagree, I think Prince made a conscious decision to be on a talk show headed by a Latino, to reach a larger audiance of color. I think that Conan and or Jay Leno would have happily had Prince on. Prince has been in LA for a while now, this is not as last minute as the Oakland shows.

I thought the part where George says "The Latino community thanks you! $25, we can get food, drink and Prince!"

I am a little jealous though cuz we paid BANK to see Prince in Oakland!!!! Sheeeeesh!!
