1. the rendition of Lawdown was good, loved the performance

2. the Beauiful Ones just doesn't have the waves of instruments it does from the 1984/85 performances, but the Prince/Misty interaction is good

3. the last song(?) it was a good performance. But when you say 'so many hits...' and you don't even play 1/2 of those, yet I need to hear a cover? Make Shelby sing If A Girl Answers or Drive Me Wild

4. Prince did really good in the interview, and I loved the red outfit.

5. he should have rocked a gold suit with white silk ruffled shirt

Oh and I forgot to add allowing other artists to cover his songs without even asking his permission or crediting him in the album notes!

Alicia Key's cover of "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?" is a good example of why other artists covering songs can become an annoying problem. Because of her success as an artist, SO many people my age are completely unaware that Alicia actually covered Prince on that song. I've had actual arguments with (very stupid) people who insist that Prince covered Alicia! Anyway, I'm not saying she didn't credit him on the album (I have it somewhere and I'm guessing she did), but people often don't read album notes - especially these days! So can you imagine putting your heart and soul into creating a piece of music and having someone record it decades later without even having to ask for you permission AND getting all the credit for it - or even worse, BUTCHERING it beyond recognition???

I think that's his only real problem with artists covering his songs. (ps- Alicia didn't butcher that song.) I'm sure that he doesn't mind if you ask him and he approves, but he just doesn't like when artists, prompted by their record companies, cover his songs without asking. I believe it falls under intellectual property, and to me, unconstitutional that somebody can steal property and get away with it. P gets visibly irritated by it, understandably. And I think the basis of it is that he feels like people don't give music and musicians the same respect that they do for movies, television, or something in print.

If I were to copy someone else's term paper and turn it in as my own, I'd get caught and suffer consequences. If a TV show copies a segment or scene from another TV show in an attempt to pass it off as original (i.e. not a parody or spoof), they'd also get in trouble. And if a movie copies the storyline from another movie, they'd have consequences to face. However, when an artist copies a song by another artist and fails to acknowledge that, either in their album booklet or by paying royalties, there are no consequences. Because they original artist wasn't acknowledged or paid royalties, they lose money. confused And the ironic thing is, the artist who stole the music loses money too, because they likely weren't making much in the first place. When you have that "Someone's messing with my money" mentality, obviously you'd be upset.

He's been saying that the music industry is "changing", but he's been saying that for almost 10 years, and I don't see much of a difference, if any at all.

I've come across dozens & dozens of Prince covers. I've never seen one that didn't give him credit. He's getting paid for song writing credits for the covers.

and this is why the org has become such a pathetic site cause when REAL HONEST VIEWS about prince happen then comes comments like yours that say we hating.. if hating is Honest than call me a "hater"

here's something 4 u look up in what a real prince performance on tv should be shhh look up the leno performance of somewhere here on earth and then look at his perfomance of the beautiful ones tonight

So everyone who liked the performance is wrong. It is called an opinion and it really sounds like it is time for you to move on to another artist. P admitted to George that he sometimes forgets lyrics he is in his 50s but you are still bitching about it anyway. Time to move on.

so everyone that didn't like it is wrong either? time 4 u 2 move on and realize that prince isn't the end and be all of music. i have vast wide range of music tastes and don't limit myself to that or one performer..so why don't u take heed 2 the song do me favor and let the sidewalk hit u where the dog bit u yesterday

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

the problem is prince will never choose a interviewer that will ask the questions the fans need 2 be answered even when tavis smiley asked him a direct strong question he avoided it by giving another answer that had NOTHING 2 do with the question asked

1. so when is 20ten going 2 be released state wide? or will the US get a deluxe version instead?

2. your tour is called to welcome 2 america and u have a song of the same name that u have done on occasion during this tour, when will this song and others be released if your in so called "studio rehab" again like u were when emancipation came out?

3. why do u continually promote ur back catalogue when someone of ur stature has so many other songs that u have done that are so superb but seldom played?

4. do u find it irony that u were in the warner bros studio last night? the same company that u had so much beef with in your career?

5. it's great that ur ticket prices are 25 bucks now, why wasn't this done in new york, new jersey and the carolina's?

What planet are you living on? With the record industry in the state that it is in I doubt P could find a major label to take a chance on him. We are not going to see a deluxe anything if he is on a recording rehab. Did you even listen to the interview?

i live on planet earth what planet do u reside on Uranus? reading is fundamental ya know and if u looked at question number 2 ..the whole studio rehab thing has been said b4 by him. damn do u need glasses or contacts? no one ever said that he has 2 use a major label 2 distribute his material, 20ten was released through a newspaper, and other artists do release their material via their website, Sanandra Meitrya comes 2 mind in this manner so there are other means of distribution. but u know so much about that right? NOT. u have always seemed like the person that prince can never do no wrong and if anyone voices a opinion about that u wanna jump on them. i never attack anyone in their opinions about whether they like something or not and say that they have their head up their ass, what i DO jump on is people like u that if someone voices that they didn't like something prince has done that they are labeled haters, negative people etc which is so far from the truth. people bash prince for his work in the 90's and i disagree with them but RESPECT that they have a right 2 voice their view. When will u get a clue about that concept?

wait don't respond ..i got ur answer ..NEVER

Of course! biggrin I loved it. Much better than if he would've been on other late night show, where the people barely know from anything besides Purple Rain and have bland, industry discussion. Prince wasn't avoidant in anything and you could tell George was trying his hardest to remember his questions for the legend biggrin And let's not foget George, he did awesome as well for interviewing, and kept everything freshs and running

[Edited 4/15/11 7:14am]

but george came out preferencing lyrics to let's go crazy, little red corvette, the house band played let's go crazy, purple rain ..so if ur getting that constant diet of reminders it's kind of hard 2 prove that he has a vast catalogue beyond purple rain and prince himself is not helping in that cause by his setlists. seeing him at the garden and when he went into songs like uptown, dreamer, mountains, anotherloverholenyohead and u saw the majority of the audience with a deer in the headlights expression while u the one that knows the music past that 1982-1984 period was grooving says a lot about the general public not knowing he has more music than that.

I'll bet they did that though just to pull people into the show that don't know his other music. It would be nice to hear songs other than those they played but I don't think that they (tbs) could draw in as big of a crowd unless they used his extremely well known hits (those known by the majority of the US)....know what I mean....

I thought it was pretty entertaining. I don't know what you all expected. This is a mere tv show, not some concert where you pay for tickets.

I don't like that he blames Ticketmaster for high prices. He had control of the prices and he knows it.

OMG....AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!! Prince looks so good its ridiculous. He doesn't look a day over 30, face and body on point. Damn, that man got it going on. Interview was great, I always love it when he blesses us with a few words. He is magical, he really is.

George is awesome, I don't know what ya'll folks bitching about. He and Prince were having fun, that's all that matters.

Laydown is an excellent choice of songs for mainstream! The Beautiful Ones is always heart wrenching. He sounded amazing, a little different, but not off or horribly by any means. If this is his worse, then I'll take it over any other artists best, cause his worse is better than their best! He looked a bit weary though...I hope everything is ok.

Haters, stay away, Prince rocked it! So glad he chose to do this show. Can't wait to get out to LA for some shows!!!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Hold it! Did I just see what I think I just saw? omg

I am just now able to watch this show in HD, and during the "I gotta know" part of Beautiful Ones after he jumps off the piano, did Prince do a partial/faltering backslide, a back spin, and then a toe-stand??? While totally flabbergasted, I'm crying in laughter over here, LOL! Did he do that? For real. Please, SOMEBODY tell me you can see what I'm talking about.

yeah, but, didn't he have a fit a few yrs ago over some band doing that with one of his songs at a music festival..? confuse
