I'm inclined to agree.
Why tease us with the O2 and Montreaux videos? Because he can, I suppose.
Haven't seen all the posts on this particular thread. Has Bart chipped in with his positively negative comments, yet??

has anyone thought that these guys might be making this all up just to promote their podcast?

Don't think so...promotional tool Shelby was also allowed to talk to them... [Edited 11/2/10 3:11am]

Do you all "really" think anything that Prince has remastered will ever be released?? Seriously.

Sure, but probably not for a long while. But eventually...yes. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

so thousands of people have now listened to a podcast where a few aussies talk about a "meeting" they had with prince. you can hear them making up each word, they are just spouting their fantasies. I want a longer version of adore. 20ten extended has a reaaaaaally long version of lay it down. yes I want that too, lets tell the people prince will release that eh?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You don't believe the meeting happened? The guys were there at the press conference. I saw them there, and several other orgers did as well. Do you really think they flew all the way over from Australia just so they could make up a story for their podcast?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yes | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
and your basis? And did you listen to it? If I was going to fake something I would have not said that there was one woman that that I did not know. But really there is nothing in that podcast that makes me think it was made up. If anything it was Prince that was making things up. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

actually, I did listen to it. I just thought some of the things said and done were a little too good to be true. the remasters thing is a complete lie as copyright law in the US lasts 50 years not 30 years, I dont see where Prince would get the time or inclination to remaster a load of records he sees as blasphemous and "mistakes" and just the general vibe of the whole thing was "lie".
anyway, its just my opinion.

the law says at 35 years the creator can get the rights back. that is the law. (the debate that I lost was that it might be +/- 35 years)
and that law would have nothing to do with remastering them. WB would have at any time done that.

which law are you talking about?

I do not think so. but i will go look at that later, the law in this case is at 35 years the creator can reclaim the copyright. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Using Wiki as your "proof" is probably never a good idea. I do understand your skepticism, but the Peach and Black folks are absolutely trustworthy. It's not like they were sitting around some microphones saying that their dicks were all twelve inches long (though, they would probably use the metric system). If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

My schlong is gigantic. There's a Wiki page I edited myself that says it's true. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah I have not even gone there yet. the link to the actual law was posted here (or if not in the remasters topic) and it clearly says it is 35 years.

You couldn't make up the Jim Crow story.
Ya just couldn't.
Besides, if they were spouting their fantasies, they wouldn't have forgotten to ask about the Opera House Challenge, they would have said that he gave more of an indication about coming to Australia, they would have bloody well gone to his limo and listened to the new album (!!! ) and there would be no talk of the bucket debacle
You may not trust these "few aussies", but I think they're a much more reliable source than most of the international media because they are genuine fans who asked the questions we want to know about and just wanted to share that with fellow fans, not make a whole lot of money trading on Prince's fame.
I'm betting that's one of the reasons Prince was willing to meet with them.
Whether he was telling a few porkies (or spouting his fantasies - "I've got some of my masters back") is imo more debatable.
Even more likely is that he believes everything he said, but it just may not translate into anything concrete for us; ie. perhaps a longer version of Adore does exist, but he'll never release it, he may well have remastered 6 albums but we may never have the chance to buy them, etc...
Or perhaps he's holding off on releasing what he sees as his most marketable work until some solution is found to the massive Internet piracy farce that would mean he'd only see a fraction of what these works would otherwise be worth to him.
Regarding the masters timeframe, as has been discussed many times, the copyright law was changed to 35 years in time for when Prince signed his contract with WB.
Either the negotiations at the time made it for 30 not 35, or some agreement has been reached since (eg. maybe WB effectively sold the last 5 years to him in exchange for some % of the royalties from the remastered works - thus making more money than they could flogging the originals for another 5 years) or maybe he was free to remaster them, but can't release them until 2013...
...or maybe he was just making it all up.
In any case, I love that he met with those guys and they came back with some of the most interesting information in ages. I'm hoping this is a sign of more open communication between Prince and his fans in the future!

Prince isn't about to release any old material that goes against the JW belief system. He shut down the first configuration of the Ultimate set a few years ago because of this, and he's not changed his tune since. It's just not gonna happen. You're not going to get a super deluxe 2 CD remaster of Dirty Mind 30, 35, or 40 years past its due date.
From the bullet points of this interview, or supposed interview, the best that you can hope for is a deluxe 20ten, and if that' something you're actually hoping for, then god help you, but at least there's a one in Rave chance of it happening.
And the 'full' version of Adore? I almost wish this was true because it's probably 2 minutes he tacked on in like 2004, when he finally caught wind that people like the tune, so why not messy up something that doesn't need to be fiddled with? Adore: The New Master. Sure, why not. Can't wait. No hard feelings.

Still gotta listen 2 the podcast, but the fact that Prince talks directly 2 fans and praises a fanmade podcast might be the sign of a real change of attitude towards his fan community. Maybe Prince realized at last that 12 years of persecuting his fansites 4 no reason had little 2 do with love 4 one another as he preaches it.
Maybe he also realized that the Lotusflow3r.com rip-off was too much: we were all totally insulted by his non-response 2 our complains as customers, the things that were promised during the promo campaign were not delivered, and the site was closed down without a word, with no consideration 4 whoever subscribed a few months b4 it was closed.
Prince, basically, has gone 2 far here: the whole Lotusflow3r.com operation was an explicit "i despise u and u can go 2 hell" message 2 his fandom (and whoever else subscribed), and once again this is far from what Prince preaches. We DID pay $77 and we got less than 10 exclusive songs 4 chrissakes!!! And that silence, this scandalous, awful SILENCE in response 2 our emails and public complaints!
So, hopefully, we can expect him 2 get a bit closer & respectful 2 us like he did in 2000-2002 with the Celebrations, NPGMC Year One and the One Nite Alone Tour soundchecks.
As 4 what we'll get and won't get, it's impossible 2 say. Prince announced so many things that never happened (Crystal Ball 2, The Chocolate Invasion box-set, the Sampling Series, Roadhouse Garden, Madhouse's 24, the 2001 Rosie Gaines album, the 1998 Mayte album, Milk & Honey, Madrid 2 Chicago, High, Peace, the Omnibus, the rerecorded albums, the A Celebration rerecorded best of, the promised content on Lotusflow3r.com... the list seems endless) that we can't expect anything 4 sure.
I just hope that the remasters, if/when they emerge, won't be either censored or remixed, and that Prince will get closer 2 his fan's community, ignore the so-called "haters" and respect those of us who have respect 4 him, because this 12 years-old war between him and us is getting ridiculous.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Live Nation was distributing 20ten Deluxe and the remasters amongst other things, considering that Prince now works with them on his live projects. Live Nation already managed 2 "steal" Madonna, U2, Shakira and Jay-Z from the majors, and these acts are MASSIVE money-makers, so whatever Live Nation is offering them, they're placing themselves as a serious alternative 2 the old record companies (and they don't own the masters from any of their artists, there4 being exactly what Prince dreamed of 15 years ago!).
And since "Lavaux" is my favorite track on 20ten, i'll be more than happy 2 have a veeeeeeeeeery long version if there's one 2 b heard A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

If it were fake, Prince would have it yanked pronto. That's what I think. I really didn't think it was that exciting, so that also makes me think it was genuine. If I were going to make this up, somebody would have gotten head on the steps. That's just me.
I did scroll on down and listen to the B sides part 2 cast. That was much more interesting. We are all so full of here

I listened to a lot of your podcast, but this was definitely one of the most interesting ones, a real adventure - and it must have been a great experience to talk with Prince. Thanks for sharing! Be it! Taking a risk is always an adventure.

Exactly.
Sheesh, people, look around: Prince is incapable of organizing a European tour, and you lot expect him to follow through on all of the above? Or ANY of the above?
And communicating via a bunch of amateurs doing a podcast? Seriously? The simple fact that Prince isn't on the record should be all the info you need. © Bart Van Hemelen

well bart....sometimes you are right but not ALL the time....i think 20ten deluxe will happen this year....given out at the us tour probably...the remasters will happen...if i was to give a date ...2014...for the first six albums...who he will release them with ...we dont know yet ...as far as the dvds go....if prince says there is a problem with them then ...to me....that means they will never be released but the aussie guys are only passing on info....they didnt need to and i thank them for that....

I totally got you. If I was listening to them while doing something else like going for a long drive it would have been great. However I am listening to them while I sit with headphones on and I wish they would cut to the chase. I just started reading this thread so maybe I can find out at what point they really start getting into the meat of their discussion. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
