here's to hoping that "act of god" will also be much longer on the deluxe version.

it needs to be stretched out to at least double it's length. there's enough interesting

ideas in the song, however shortly they pop up, that should be developed more.

Agreed. Act of God is was of my faves on 20Ten. And I'm always up for an extended version. Just wondering what the extra tracks will be? Personally, I'm very cool with having Cause and Effect, Hot Summer Nights and Rich Friends added. Yea I said it. lol

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Good for you guys that you had the opportunity to speak with Prince and Stephen Hill, and talk about everything from artists he's jammed with, his music/songs, the upcoming W2A tour, to a future album possibly coming out in 2011, mentioning TonyM, to you thinking "Nasser (the security guy) "get the gun" lol (<--j/k that last part was funny), to Prince ownng the masters to some of his albums, discussing American slavery, jim crow/segregation and then you guys hanging out and listening to live music in a club with him...interesting. biggrin Good show, thanks for sharing your experience with us.

30 years to get back your music is like a little lifetime. It can't be fun, waiting for each album's liberation and then discussing the same thing time and time again. Plus he needs to constantly revist "the entire episode", which does not hold the happiest of memories. It must be disheartening.

And using different representatives to make matters, time consuming and impersonal is a corporate strategy. To the executives it's a business deal and paperwork, to Prince it's his heart and soul not to mention pride. Love is stronger than pride, that's true, but in this case, that truth might seem like a misconceived perception.

I think we can drop the 'woe is Prince' act. He was paid for his work, and then resigned the contracts, it's not like they were stolen from him.

yeahthat ....on th eone hand people say hes a genius, a master busieness man and in teh next breath he somehow got tricked into signing a deal

Funny how it took him almost 20 years of cars, tailored clothes, pussy, customised instruments, movies, jet setting etc to realise that the music industry wasnt for him....and 1 year after hed signed anew deal too poor, Prince.

Still hes done a bang up job of getting his own back with his websites

I'm no US attorney but I really doubt this.

"Termination of the grant may be effected at any time during a period of five years beginning at the end of thirty-five years from the date of publication of the work under the grant or at the end of forty years from the date of execution of the grant, whichever term ends earlier."

Says the law. shrug Unless WB was nice for him or the law used to say "thirty years" when he signed for those transfers, I fail to see how he could already own those copyrights.

Also, his albums after 'Prince' are subject to copyright claims by band members too.

So as long as I don't hear this straight from the horse's mouth I'm not buying it.

Yeah, I believe I've read that same passage before, which is why I was fairly surprised at this new turn of events. I think that law preceded Prince's signing to WB by a couple of years or so as well, so it is possible that WB had proactively shortened the time frame for the artists they signed after the law took effect.

I am not sure.

All I am sure of is what the law says and what the horse himself said before in an online Q&A, somewhere around the end of the 90's, that the term was 35 years and that the rights to For You would return to him in 2013.

Should still be somewhere online.

i'm very curious now as to how the "20Ten deluxe" cd will be distributed.

with the european covermount for newspapers, that had a cumulative cd

volume of, what, more than half a million, you could see that prince might

figure the cds will find their ways to fans globally, in time.

since most of his in store albums sell about 300,000 or something, every

fan who wants one can track one down. it's a bit of a hassle for non euro

fans but it's something that can be done fairly easy none the less.

now people that seem to know their stuff have been hinting that he will be

handing out the new version of 20Ten at the "welcome 2 america" shows.

but that way, people who get a ticket, get a cd, one might assume. so the

majority of people will hold on to that disc.

which leaves filesharing as the most likely avenue for distribution to the

rest of the world. which is something i don't have a problem with. a good

quality download or a cd, i don't mind that much anymore these days.

but i'm thinking, why wouldn't he go for another covermount deal? if he'd

shop the new version around some magazines in the US i'm sure that he

could get a good deal with a few of them and pocket some extra $$.

regarding stuff like this and a lot of his other bussiness choices i just wish

that prince would be more open and gain us some insight into the whole

process. it might seem like boring stuff to others but i find it fascinating to

see how he's distributing his music, even at the expense of the music.

somehow it makes no sense and yet all the sense in the world at the same

time. and not just in the "prince just cares about money" kind of way.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanywho. i've been listening to 20Ten again today and i'm

pretty psyched, i have to admit, about the deluxe version.

biggrin

Several things were revealed and/or confirmed. Including:

• First 6 albums are already remastered, which includes the ones he owns now

• 20TEN Deluxe is definite go and will contain extended versions as well as extra songs

As cool as this sounds.... It doesnt excite me

Not till i see it in a physical CD for sale confused

He'll probably work on a new project and scrap remasters, delux edition lol

Interesting info, a great get! Finally, someone asks him questions that are relevant and fans want answers to.

I've been meaning to mention this, though, and listening to the Top 20 songs podcast reminded me.

I notice you guys have been putting more Prince music in them. I'd be careful. The short clips used as demonstration for commentary. But when you put a full version of When Doves Cry at the end of it, or playing performances on the episode where the Petersons and Sheila E came to Australia might get you into some trouble if you aren't paying royalties.

Absolutely! I thought the same thing when I listened to it.

Great work guys!! clapping

I know you didn't ask about the Opera House, but you did ask exactly what I've been wondering about Janelle and Erykah being in Oz in Feb, etc... and that silence (as opposed to an outright 'no') was probably the best answer we could hope for!

I wonder when was the last time Prince offered to play his latest unreleased album for someone and they declined? razz

Given that Prince said specifically that he had listened to the top 20 show, I'd say either they'd paid for WDC (or formally sought permission to use it), or else he was ok with it.

I've no doubt that the guys know what they can and can't play on the podcasts (otherwise full versions of songs would probably be being played willy-nilly) and the fact that Prince spent an evening chatting with them rather than sending them lawyers' letters is presumably testament to that.

honestly the thought that went through my mind when he said that was one of the shows he heard was that a lawyer had played it for him to see if he wanted to sue lol

Try your best to block out the hype about Monae, get the album, put on yer headphones and listen. If you still don't like it after that......fair enough.

I can't wait for these remasters, hopefully it will be done excellent with b-sides, extended versions, and outtakes....

hopefully this oppotunity to make some fan-tastic releases won't be screwed up.

I have mixed feelings: I hope for the best, but also I fear it will screwed up.

and.... we have to wait till 2014 to get the 6 first albums, right?

This means - if I count right - my favorite Lovesexy CD won't have a chance till 2018....

damn that's a looooong time to wait.. sad
