and why is that?
She only does covers of songs from older artist (Joni Mitchell) or family (Randy). That's it and it doesn't help that Prince threw shade a couple years back. Asshole
But it would be amazing if she was a part of the tribute. She always said she's a big fan of his work and that they were going to duet on the Control album. Janet and Jam & Lewis should be a part of this. Its only right.
Why should Janet be a part of this, again???
Because she likes his music???

Yes he would be... Remember when the Sex Pistols were inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in 2006 and they didn't show plus sent the museum a note telling why they wouldn't attend? Check me out and add me on:

Actually, I wouldn't because I've seen her do Prince songs and it ain't a big deal.
2nd. So, she should perform on the Tribute because she jacked his sound???
In that case, Ready for the World, the Micki Free version of Shalamar, Georgio, and Justin Timberlake should perform there, too.
Just do the whole show full of Prince sound alikes that aren't his songs. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!! |

If BET does this right they will get The Time and Sheila E to be a part. A Shelia E led Revolution like at the Family Jam would be hot. I can see Maxwell, Robert Randolph and why not Janet Jackson. I know his performance will bring the house down.
That's sound like a good idea. [Edited 6/15/10 17:10pm] |

When playing a Word Association game during a radio interview he when Michael Jackson was brought up he said "genuis". When Janet was brought up he said "Genius' sister".
And Jimmy and Terry always tell a story that when meeting Joe Jackson he told them he didn't want Janet to sound like Prince because they didn't like him.

Meh. His loss.
It would be a great tribute if she did participate along with Maxwell, Janelle Monae, Cee-lo, The Time, Chaka Khan etc.

Oh jackson, you're still mad at Prince, but you keep track of him? jackson35, don't be mad at the player who was smart enough to know how to play the game that led him to his success, go out and learn how the player played the game, and you may find the same success. Isn't that better than holding in 26 years of anger towards someone else's success? Just think, all this time you could have been taking notes.

When has Janet ever participated in a tribute to another artist??? Other than her brother and the 1 or 2 covers she's done, she hasn't.
So, even if Prince and BET wanted her to do it. Who's to say she'd do it???

Prince told Rolling Stone (after the release of Dirty Mind) that he was the son of a "half-Black father and Italian mother."
And that is well known to be a lie. The truth is Prince is Black, and if you read the Ebony issue he's in, he himself says that "we come in all colors" referring to himself and Black people.
[Edited 6/15/10 14:38pm]
Don't knock yourself out explaining that, because that's something some fans can't seem to let go of. Maybe we should all go back and retrack everything all the people we know said back in the 1980s and bash them to no end, since that seems to make some folks satisfied.
You're absolutely right, Prince already confirmed he's black in the Ebony issue and there's not a damn thing anyone can do to change that, regardless of how many times they dig up stuff he said in the past. [Edited 6/15/10 17:08pm] |

Question: Who Would You Want To See Perform A Prince Tribute At The BET Awards?
This is just a question I am asking myself.
If there is a Prince tribute at the BET Awards June 27th, who would you want to see perform that tribute?
-Dr.F
This is some of the peeps on my list that I posted at Dr. F's site yesterday:
Lenny Kravitz, Maxwell, Janelle Monae (<–yay!), J*Davey (could do SOTT w/Prince);Larry Graham, Chaka, Pattie LaBelle, Esthero<--another artist who is not recognized enough;Tevin Campbell, Morris Day & The Time; Tamar, and definitely Sheila E;Alicia Keys;Common;Stevie Wonder

How about a bunch of no talent and has-been hacks? I mean honestly it couldn't be any worse than what Prince himself has been doing so far this year. Am I right? |

It's good Prince is being honored.
However knowing BET they will get people to perform that'll fcuk up his songs. If Trey Songz or somebody performs a P classic, all hell will break loose in my house.
Hopefully, Alicia Keys will sing "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore"...
They better have at least Chaka Khan, Sheila E., Tevin Campbell, and/or The Time be apart of this. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand. |

BET had better not screw this up like they did the MJ tribute...rushed or not, it was a hot mess.
Hopefully it will be like the other lifetime achievement presentations. I'd love to see...

I have no desire to see any younglings or hip hoppers mangle Prince's songs. I remember Rihanna's performance with The Time. [Edited 6/15/10 17:53pm] Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

There are no younglings can can do anything for Prince's music but to cheapen it. EVERY homage to a legebd lately have been insulting and degrading disasters.
I'm not the peting starting type, but dam we should start one. Whatever anyone like me says about his new music, there is no denying that he is at the top of his game as a live act, there really is nobody in his league alive anymore, i agree that the only one performing a Prince song should be Prince. Let his show the younglings and America how its done.I dont mean to sound over the top about it, but c'mon.
