I think they should defintely bring back Tevin Campbell to be one of the artist in the tribute. He would tear up "Shhhh".....

Very true. If Allicia Keys is there, I bet she'll probably sing "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore." I think Maxwell as well as Lenny Kravitz would be cool as well.

Drake is Larry's nephew.....quite possible.

Exactly! she can just sit behind the piano since she pregnant. I'm sure any of those artist would be there in a heartbeat.

who ever it is i hope they do a good job and show him some justice

yonce wil mos def do her thing but i dont want yonce to wear out her welcome because people can only take so much

alicia is good but not for a prince tribute

drake is good but not for a prince tribute

prince should just do his own tribute and invite The Time, Wendy and Lisa, Dez, Andre, Eric Leeds

Shelia e , Larry graham , and Chaka khan

and do one big prince melody and end it with 1999

one can wish lol lol

This is just a question I am asking myself.

If there is a Prince tribute at the BET Awards June 27th, who would you want to see perform that tribute?

[Edited 6/15/10 19:12pm]

Ummmmm... you don't even know what he played for the Time event. The only thing people reported on was his sitting in for an impromptu "After Show"... So stop trolling for attention and move along now... i dont need attention from you lezama, i was there at that party and it was a busted performance. i just hope prince bring his a game otherwise he will be the home town joke

This is the last Prince tribute thread I'm movin my responses to. hmph!

Gaga- "Little Red Corvette" (probably dressed as a damn corvette somehow lol) or "When You Were Mine" done at the piano the way she did "Speechless".

Teena Marie worship- "Adore" (and RELEASE that shit in an album!)

Janelle Monae- "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"

Chaka will undoubtedly do "Feel for U" but she could do "Sign o' the Times" too.

In johnart's dreamworld Annie Lennox would also make an appearance and sAng "Nothing Compares 2 U" cloud9cloud9

I know rock isn't BET's thing, but I hope they have some rock band on and honor his rock side, being it's a tribute to him and his music.

Prince will probably make sure his people keep Kanye back by at least a thousand yards. Kanye will probably be given advanced instructions to not even look at, gesture toward, let alone approach, His Royal Highness, lol.

Well, that question it seems will never go away, lol no biggy, what else is new? lol Not everyone is educated about the varying tones that exist among Black Americans. Anyway, it's nice that BET is honoring Prince. He deserves it.

What a terrible list. BET is not hardly booking Wendy and Lisa for its award show - they want artists that their target audience would at least vaguely want to hear and see.

Only Prince, now the only ones I could tolerate is Tevin Campbell/D'Angelo (pre-current state of mind) Robin Thicke ICNTPOYM .... and it would be quite interesting to have JDavey /Janelle Monae / Andre 3000 interpret a Prince song.

My goodness you are bunch of 'confused' people aren't you! While I could see Shelia E. and Chaka there, I think the Time would be questionable since they are in the middle of there own thing at the moment;

http://www.billboard.com/#/news/the-time-reunite-for-tour-new-album-1004095896.story?tag=hpfeed

of course that would be good PR for them though, so maybe they would be there.

But as for The Revolution, sadly I think the world ending in 2012 is a more likely bet. But if they do and by 'they' I mean Wendy, Lisa and at least one or more of the following (Brown Mark, Bobby Z. or Matt Fink) I will formally post an apology to the org for calling you 'confused'.

And other than Keys which may be unlikely due to her current condition, there are very few current artist that would do any justice to his material without butchering it.

Honestly I see him hijacking the show and doing the tribute himself before letting most other artists do it. But I guess we'll see won't we.

To be continued...

This is fantastic news! The man is LONG overdue for one so I pray that he turns the place out and I hope that whoever performs his songs, if he doesn't do them himself, do them justice. We all should be excited about this.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

So The Time would be questionable but maybe, The Revolution is an "if", and Alicia Keys is unlikely. Thanks for clearing up the "confusion" lol
