Really.

Kanye is ok I suppose, but i wouldn't blame Prince if he stayed home.

I can already see how painful it will be watching any current lackluster "artists" take on a Prince song.

With Prince still arguably the best live performer alive, I personally would find it insulting to have any of the current crop of half ass "performers" flopping around mutilating his work. If there was anybody worthwhile it would be ok, maybe someone like Alicia Keys, but who else is there?

I really hope BET doesn't even try to do this. Just play some clips, give him an award and some cake but please dear god no amateur hour karaoke. Sure Prince has released some really bad football march songs and such lately but having him endure a BET tribute is just cruel and unusal punishment, even for an atrocity like Purple & Gold.

I am already cringing about what they might have in store for poor Prince, it aint gonna be good or painless that's for sure

Prince is doing a good job so far with the build up promotion for his mini tour & album release. First the unveiling of the mega hit single "Hot Summer" on his Birthday June 7. Then the cool new swagg cover & interview of the July issue of Ebony magazine. Then the ultimate announcement of Lifetime Achievement Award from BET on June 27 2010. This is shaping up to be a summer hotter than this I don't think so..............

Well, the failure could make the song obscure enough to some readers here to qualify for playing it a few years into the future.

The list of artists SUCKS considering this is suppose to be about Prince. Clearly they're just picking out artists that they think people like rather than would compliment the Purple one. There better be a better show of performers than they're letting us in on otherwise this show will b utter garbage.

The lifetime achievement portion is separate and they have this every year as part of the awards show, but the lists of artists that's scheduled is just part of the show itself. As far as what artists they have lined up to pay tribute remains to be seen.

Thanks for the clarification. I still say this list of artists is lame w/ the exception of a few but as long as they aren`t the artists paying tribute I suppose there may be some hope left.

I don't even think it's a single. It's a song that Prince gave a radio station. That doesn't make it a single.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

lol That would be a travesty. I think they'll probably have artists that he's friends with like Stevie, Patti, Chaka. If they use any younger artists, i'd like to see J*Davey get a chance to be debuted on tv, if they could do even one number with Prince, since he seems to be interested in quite a few, new artists and encouraging them; especially those who aren't exactly mainsream. They're a cool group. I'd also like to see Janelle Monae as part of that performance since she is getting a lot of attention now. I'd also like to see Esthero do a song or two, another underrated artist who doesn't get enough shine on her talent. Other than that, I hope Stevie, Chaka, Patti, also India Arie, be part of the tribute, as well as the original members of The Time and Morris Day. It would only make sense that Morris Day and The Time, as well as, Sheila E, and some members of his past groups, be associated with this tribute. Let's hope BET do their homework right. Let's hope some of his friends at BET get it right.

Honestly, what BET should have done, was have a separate tribute show to Prince, with members of his previous groups and other artists who were associated with him, during the early and mid part of his career.

The BET Awards has sucked in the last few years and with this list of people performing, it'll probably be more of the same. The one part of the show that typically doesn't suck are the tributes and tribute performances. I hope and pray that they don't do Prince dirty with his tribute. Hell, I hope Prince is funky as shit that night IF he plays. We will see in less than 2 weeks.

If they get the right acts 2 perform, this should be raelly GREAT. If they get the wrong acts 2 perform, it has the potential 2 be a complete MESS. I's think BET is going 2 pull this off.

They show the hot mess that was Mj's tribute last year. I'm sure that would want 2 redeem themselves 4 that alone.

Considering that the president of BET, Stephen Hll is a super Prince fan, and in the credits of the 2006 BET Awards mentioned the song, does anybody think Prince will pull out an obscure song like Question of U, J.I.R. etc. to play for the hardcore fans who want to hear him do something from his back catalogue?

This would be the perect chance for ol D'angelo to hit the stage singing either Adore" The Beautiful Ones"or whatever he chooses since his vocal delivery evokes Prince more than any artist I've heard since Prince's 1978 debut.

If he or Maxwell aren't hitting the stage for this I don't know who else is worthy enough to. IT WILL SUCK!

He seems to be. I remember Stephen was also at the Butter Restaurant show in NYC in 2006, and he got a chance to come up front and sing with Prince and the crew for a minute.

Yes that would be awesome if Maxwell or D'Angelo appear and sing "Adore". Gotta have some falsetto up in there. lol

It would be so cool if they rolled out a "Purple" carpet for his Purple Badness. It will be nice that the younguns will get to see what real music was about back in the mid 70s-80s.

Speaking of Stephen Hill and the BET awards, I found this short article with a comment from Stephen Hill.

http://www.examiner.com/x...ment-award

BET Awards 2010: Prince to be honored -- performer to receive Lifetime achievement award

Legendary performer and prolific songwriter Prince will be received an honor at the 2010 BET Awards. He will be given the Lifetime achievement award.

The BET president of programming, Stephen G Hill said of the singer: "Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music."

The 10th annual BET Awards will take place on June 27 in Los Angeles, California and will be hosted by Queen Latifah
