He did great, but he probably netted 20-30 mill, and that was more than half a decade ago. Paisley Park running costs alone could swallow that in 6 years.

I think what laurarichardson is saying is that Prince isn't poor--just a total douchebag who doesn't pay people for their services. But of course, I might be relying on conjecture.

I don't doubt that he has the money for all these delinquent debts--taxes, studio engineer/soundmixing fees for Lotusflow3r, and this lawsuit settlement.

What he clearly does NOT have is good management & infrastructure to manage these matters, in part because he is a control freak and rather do it all alone with a personal assistant; and in part, because he probably does not want the responsibilities of payroll, etc. (which means hiring even more people).

He seems to rather pay-as-you-go when he needs professional services. The problem with that approach of course is that stuff falls through the cracks when there isn't anyone whose job it is to manage the whole process.

When he was doing the small-house indie thing, it worked (but even then he had in-house designers, web maintainers, etc.). But there's a big difference between what he was doing 2000-2003, and the super mega industry moves he started making from Musicology forward. After 2004, Prince became a business again (not just an indie artist). And you can't run a business like a "hit and run" tour--with little planning, minimum management, or poor timeliness.

Seems like he has poor or little professional support. He's a musician who barely(?) graduated high school. And while he was in school, he spent most of his time honing his craft. I'm not saying dude is not smart--he clearly is. But for most of his life he has channeled his brilliance into his art. We've all benefited from that (Thankfully!).

What he needs are people who channeled their brilliance into law, business, etc. He is not a jack of all trades, nor do I want him to be. Focus on the music, keep an eye on your biz & money, but hire competent people you can trust who can help keep track of your bils dude.

No Wonder lotusflow£r.com took the $77 from everyone, he needs it !

As for the people who say $3 million is a drop in the ocean for Prince, it isn't, the quotes about income from touring are wildly off target, as they are normally gross takings, once he's paid tax, venues, touring staff, promoters, logistics, he won't see more than a couple of million for himself, thats why he played the O2 last time, much cheaper logistics. I've managed a tour for a small band and that cost a fortune, its amazing all the things u take for granted that add up.

On top of that are his day to day costs, he constantly has security around him, that costs a fortune, his staff/eployees at Paidley Park, houses he owns/rents all over the place, Paisley park must just eat up money, especially as its not exactly hip for recording up there, its a long time since an REM recorded there.

He's not making for a fortune from sales of his current albums or the back catalogues, his sole income is pretty much touring, and based on how he treated this promoter, the terms he gets for his next tour are not going to be favourable, would u offer insurance for Prince to play a gig ?????

And how much have the divorces cost him ??? then his legal fee's for sending all the lawyers after people on the internet who play his music in the background on home video's on youtube, and he does this all on his own, Warners aren't there picking up the cheque anymore...his last decent selling commercial album was in 1991 .....

I said this on the other thread about his proerty taxes. You are making a massive assumption that this is all down to a fuck up on his or his accountant's part. Actually, it could all be just a scam by either party to retain the 3/4 or whatever million dollars he currently owes because the longer he keeps that sum in the bank, the more money it earns him.

This is common practice, particularly with large sums of money, because 1 months delay in payment can easily earn you another few-hundred thousand, or whatever. The fact he has always paid his taxes before and, most of the time, late it seems would also lend credence to this theory.

Thats already been taken into account in my assessment at least. Musico, logy make around 80 mill..he took home 35...O2 he probbly took home 20 mill..so he is sitting on around 50 mill. At least. Just fomr that touring. And yes PP may cost monthly but nothing over half a mill to a mill a year probably. Its just sitting there. Okay lets say 3 mill a year. He still cops that easily.

None of us truly know the figures, there is also this big competition always going on about who takes the most on a tour that the artist like to use as an ego trip- Jackson, then U2, Madonna, Stones, Prince etc, it used to happen when mega stars signed a new deal in the 80's/90's, the press/industry would always be looking for a bigger deal/story, so the figures would be quoted, you'd never quite know if there true or not, like the footballers wages now.

Sure - he has an expensive lifestyle and, yes, I also know how expensive touring can be. It is still his major source of income, but its not the sole source as your suggest. And just because some back-catalogue is out of print, the performance royalties that his massive legacy generate will be enormous. He also owns his own publishing, so there's a revenue stream there too.

People need to relax on all the speculation - all we really know is he's late on taxes and a court order.....seems all the more likely to me that he is being deliberately late to make himself more buck. He might earn $500,000 back just in delaying these amounts by a few months.

I said this on the other thread about his proerty taxes. You are making a massive assumption that this is all down to a fuck up on his or his accountant's part. I understand what you're saying and would be more convinced that these instances of non-payment were more purposeful other than mismanagement. But in context with all the other stuff:

-The concert agent promoter saying how difficult it was to negotiate with him--his "tell them to chill" response--reflects not willful malfeasance but more a casual, nonchalant approach to business. The fact that he had most of the negotiations channeled through a personal assistant reinforces that.

-His failure to pay the sound engineer/mixer of his last album, Lotusflow3r, I doubt is willful, but a bill that fell through the cracks because no one in his camp is responsible for keeping track of these things.

-The auto-renewal of Lotusflow3r memberships for a pretty much dead site. Again not willful and probably unknown to Prince, reflecting the risks of outsourcing and then NOT managing processes and operations that have a direct impact on your brand, reputation, financial or otherwise.

He has bitched and moaned about his property assessments for years, so it is possible that his tax delinquency is purposeful. But put in context of all these other business issues, suggests something else--a carefree, careless, don't care approach to his personal business, in part facilitated by the fact that over the last 6 years, he has been extremely successful, and probably has enough money to not give a damn on his level. But on the ground, again, it's not good for his brand.

As someone in the business you should know that he played 21 Nights at the age of 49/50 at the O2 in London.... lol

I really don't think you'll get any insurance company saying no to Prince ...look let's face facts here Prince from time to time signs deals that go wrong ...all artist do at his level .... Prince is a solo trader so his mistakes get public press....madge's get covered up by WB...

at the end of the day ...they all end up paying out if thinks go wrong ...that's why he has insurance and a legal team to advice him ...the advice was to drop the case he did ...3 million $ is not a small change but his one of fee's for playing gig's is not small so things balance out ....

He has been making real money since 1996 before the record industry went to the wall .... he's in good shape for an artist that not dead ... put it that way!

lol
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
