We'd love to come here and talk about Prince's good music and nothing more but when we do, people like you show up talking about we're stuck in the past and we need to move on to his new music because he's the one that changed. Yet, when we do that and come and say his heart's not in it because we can clearly hear that it's not because we KNOW what his music sounds like when his heart is in it. Here you come again, telling us we need to move on all together because we aren't satisfied with his current output. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

My god oh gosh supa, one cd out of three in comparison to how many of his recent releases. i'll give him a pass. but good one! but i would say four of the tracks sound real dated (like past 90's stuff) (not in a good way either). LondonStyle said: ThreadBare said: Then why make songs like "Lolita" and "Chocolate Box" that mimic styles and sounds favored by "non-musician" artists and producers (by Prince's measure)? Sounds like someone wants it both ways. 1. To show these suckers he can do it and better 2. To prove the industry controls the airways cause you don't hear it but you hear Britney F**King Spear...using his beats.. 1. But if he succeeds in making lousy songs in the style of less-talented people, where's the accomplishment? 2. Come on, Prince is old, comparatively speaking. When Prince was in his 20s and 30s, Lou Rawls wasn't getting the airplay he used to. But he was still bad in his own right. The "industry" has always controlled what the masses have heard. P's just on the other side of it, these days.

Something about songs like Lolita and Chocolate box -Both are throwbacks to Prince's earlier pop sounds (The Time could do both of these.) Both are pop songs like Prince has been doing since Soft and Wet. Prince always has one foot in the pop world when it comes to sound/writing. Yes, he is a musician's musician, but he also is one of the greatest pop song crafters ever. Prince isn't chasing trends with these anymore than he ever has. You think he invented that new wave electro funk of the 80's? No those already existed...he just remade it in his own style. We call it the Minneapolis Sound. Timbaland and todays producers may as well call it "the blueprint". Bottom line: Prince is always incorporating trends into his music and coloring them purple. He has been doing it since day one. But they're horrible songs. I can't get beyond that. I hear The Time in "Never Be Another Like Me," all the way. But "Lolita" and "Chocolate Box?" Not so much. And, Prince has chased trends throughout his entire career, to me. The degree to which he has done so has varied, I think. Has that trend-chasing been accompanied by flashes of greatness and originality? Absolutely. I'm well familiar with Timbaland & Co. mining from P's production bag of tricks. Nothing new there. I just think it's funny that people expect music fans and musicians to not be able to tell when something's subpar, as those two songs certainly are.

boy has this thread gotten out of hand... the honest truth... I just realized this. When you think about it, right now, people really aren't hating Prince so much right now. Not as much as they were a few months ago that's why I left for a while My new policy is to not spew out too much hate unless I have something to back it up with. There've been too many times where I've said how bad certain songs or even albums are and find myself taking the comments back. That's why I'm hesistant to post anything on MPLSound one listen isn't enough to know if there's love for it or not. Sure didn't make a solid first impression on me I can understand some of the hate... and what I don't understand, I just take a few steps back and go somewhere else had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
