Damn !

I have been feeling like this for a long time.
People like Supa can come on here and post and I don't agree with him but understand where he is coming from, but others are on a different level than I am on.

It's almost like a co-dependancy type of thing.

Full head of hair here and Prince is the one doing American Idol, not us! lol

That's because he's a iconic musician "a star" and he's not fazed by the future and change he always ahead of the wave, david bowie and bing crosby anyone ....

You 80's lot still looking for teenage kicks.... lol , Prince has done the 80's and moved on ....you lot need to move on too....suckers lol

American Idol is the EXACT kind of thing that is wrong with music today. Grooming these little pets for money not because of their talent. Hell Jennifer Hudson should have won her season, instead she was booted 7th out and the red headed dude who couldn't sing for crap stayed in the competition.

Prince complains about the corporate structure and he's a slave and a victim and all thst crap and then he turns around and sells his ass to that same corporate structure. It's called flaming hypcrisy. Aint nothin to do with the 80s.

Oh, the 90s is my favorite musical decade overall so you should update your stats lol

Maybe there are a few haters but so has any artist on his fansite's forums. I do think Prince fans are very critical....which is a good thing in my book. And that critisism is often called hatred....which it isnt...

Some people who claim to just "not drink the Koolaid" actually are upset with Prince because his lawyers forced them to shut-down their websites that discussed bootleg material, and even had connections to those that sold them.

These few people now have a biased agenda when they post, and they should be ashamed by their behavior. They are scorned, and are very vindictive about something that was well within Prince's right to do, but they will never admit it. They know it is true and fair.. Prince could've posted a public list of names of those people who were involved years ago, but did not.

You know, a LOT of innocent bystanders got caught in the crossfires. So many sites like DTTlyrics closed their doors because of Prince's strong arm tactics. I can't remember if that site got closed down or if the person just got tired of dedicating their time and energy and their own money to a bully asshole but it wasn't just bootlegging sites and those connected to to it that got shut down and it isn't just them who are bitching.

Those of us who saw innocent people mowed down in Prince's ridiculous frenzy against the fans won't EVER EVER EVER watch silently as Prince targets more innocent people.

Ol' schoolers, like me. We've witnessed that man's musical greatness! Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and then some, for years! We KNOW what he is capable of doing because we've heard it, we've seen it and hell, we lived it! headbang

I personally don't want to see him running around in a thong, singing Head or Sexuality but I do keep holding on to the hope that one day maybe just maybe that unmistakable greatness of those songs will return to his music. But then he releases some mediocre, haphazardly thrown together assault on my ears and it's like watching a mentally ill friend slowly withering away. I want to turn away but my love for the person I used to know him to be just won't let me.

Just because he was capable of anything back then does not mean that he is now. Prince is human, and people change. I find that with most artist their earlier work is better so why should Prince be any different. This goes the same with many writers that I follow. Their earlier work which made me a fan is much better than their later work. I just think that people expecting him as an artist to be like he was is very unrealistic, and again it just comes off as people being stuck in the past. shrug

that does not mean we should not be critical.ofcourse, if you don't like a cd you don't like a cd but i still believe people's expectations are unrealistic.
[Edited 4/16/09 7:54am]

spit Expecting a great artist...to be a great artist is "unrealistic"? That's interesting. neutral

As for Prince, the acceptance of his mediocre tendencies started quite some time ago and when at least his heart was still in the music, it was forgivable but now his heart isn't even in it and it shows! The sad part is he's pimping this mediocrity for all it's worth because he knows he can. He doesn't even have to try anymore, just throw some shit together, add at least one decent song or two, slap it in a cardboard sleeve, get somebody to pay a cash up front distribution deal, have a purple minion or two deliver cryptic droppings to the fan sites, CHA-CHING and repeat.

I really don't think it's unrealistic nor is it asking too much to expect better than that!!

Yes it is unrealistic because nobody stays great forever. People change and have their moments and most artist peak. As far as pimping mediocrity, many of us do enjoy current work not all ofcourse, but it does not come off as mediocrity like it does to you. I'm not saying you have to accept anything, but I still think if you've been dissastified for sooo long, what's the point, it appears that people have a hard time accepting that Prince is just not their type of artist anymore and have a hard time moving on.

I could not agree more with the above. Also - some of the negative comments are from the ones who love him the most actually. In my opinion, if everyone wants it to be positive - then go start your own website and call it PositivePrince.org or something like that. Kick out anyone who posts something negative. And enjoy your boring ass website.

there have been many xcellent points in this thread but this one is the creme de le creme clapping

i like a site that has memebers on it that speak their mind and i may not agree with everyone's notion of his music, but i'm grateful that there isn't a site that kisses his ass every single day either.

some just can't handle others having a OPEN mind and speak their minds, but if u do ur a hater NO MORE CANDY 4 U KISS ASSES!! big grin

and one of the main reasons i never posted in npgmc cause that's what prince wanted all praise but no real fans speaking of what they don't like

according to prince, in songs such as 'musicology' and 'old school company,' we actually need to look backwards.

i think he's saying the whole music industry as a whole looking back 2 how great songs like earth wind and fire, sly and himself when putting out new music. not shit like the chris brown's, beyotcha and the ting tings put out these days. lawd can i say the pussycat dolls as well? barf

What hatred?

Really.. i think many people here are confusing 'hate' with 'being critical'.

If anyones here who is labeled a Prince 'hater' by some would stop starting an reacting on hreads on this site, it would quickly turn into some NPGmusicclub: Prince is God, and he can do no wrong... etc...

As far as i can see, many of these people who are often labeled as 'haters' (including myself) are still here because we know what Prince is capable off, and what great potential he has.

'We' so called 'haters' still come here because we care for his legacy and keep hoping (untill what point?...) he will find his muse again.
