speaking of creating your own world, where do you draw the line between old and new? what is old prince music? what is new prince music?

The 80's....as with all artist that become popular they are judge buy the last major worldwide hit ...unfair a stupid but that's what the "music industry has become" hence many artist stop or have been stopped producing music....

Prince is the Rule Breaker ..... He still rocks new CD's on his own terms ...he more a rebel now than he was in the 80's....old orgers don't get this he was industry back then..... lol

Sometimes I wonder if ya'll really think/believe what you type, you're intentionally baiting sane-thinking people or you're just opening your mouth to swap feet.

In this case, i'm gonna have to go with the last two options...
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

no one is going to be pleased all the time with what they read, as there is always going to be someone talkin' smack about something or other at the org - some guys on this site really do just have nothin' better to do with their time than talk down about folks, but that's life. Even when I wasn't feelin' the man or was upset by things I read on here, I always looked for the inspiration in Prince's music somewhere.

But you have to understand that sometimes Prince doesn't stay in touch with his fans or reality to the best of his ability, and sometimes people need to speak up about it.

according to prince, in songs such as 'musicology' and 'old school company,' we actually need to look backwards.

Yeap but he's not talking about just the 80's here he's talking as we all know before the music industry made music boring....controlled....made up...real music by real musicians.....

Real old school does not start at For You or Prince....Albums... biggrin

Then why make songs like "Lolita" and "Chocolate Box" that mimic styles and sounds favored by "non-musician" artists and producers (by Prince's measure)?

Sounds like someone wants it both ways.

I always find that when trying to rouse people's positivity then calling them "assholes" is the way to do it.

But does he actually care? Probably not. I'd like to think he had better things to do with his time and money than worry about 'the little people' over at the Org.

A person has to be careful when asking his-self why he does care for he may find the truth he doesn't.

Some people who claim to just "not drink the Koolaid" actually are upset with Prince because his lawyers forced them to shut-down their websites that discussed bootleg material, and even had connections to those that sold them.

These few people now have a biased agenda when they post, and they should be ashamed by their behavior. They are scorned, and are very vindictive about something that was well within Prince's right to do, but they will never admit it. They know it is true and fair.. Prince could've posted a public list of names of those people who were involved years ago, but did not.

"Thou Shalt Not Steal"

You can "feel the hate and revenge" like The Dark Side of The Force..lolol.

Nothing will change them (even embarrassing themselves or wasting more time out of thier lives trying to attack this man needlessly, and with no true points).

Something about songs like Lolita and Chocolate box

-Both are throwbacks to Prince's earlier pop sounds (The Time could do both of these.)

Both are pop songs like Prince has been doing since Soft and Wet. Prince always has one foot in the pop world when it comes to sound/writing.

Yes, he is a musician's musician, but he also is one of the greatest pop song crafters ever.

Prince isn't chasing trends with these anymore than he ever has. You think he invented that new wave electro funk of the 80's? No those already existed...he just remade it in his own style. We call it the Minneapolis Sound. Timbaland and todays producers may as well call it "the blueprint".

Bottom line: Prince is always incorporating trends into his music and coloring them purple. He has been doing it since day one.

but then if you have not enjoyed any output in over 15 years isn't time to move on? its like you're holding yourself hostage to some expectations, you're setting yourself up for constant dissappointment.
[Edited 4/15/09 19:33pm]

Please tell me exactly where in my post did I say (or even allude) to "not enjoying any output" in over 15 years.

I said he lost it after Emancipation, but that doesn't mean there aren't tracks that I haven't enjoyed. the Sun, the Moon and Stars, Tangerine, I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore, the Rainbow Children (the MUSIC, not the lyrics), One Nite Alone..., (piano/studio, NOT the live album) etc, etc are all tracks/albums i've enjoyed, but his output of late is something "'Ol Skool" Prince would've mocked incessantly.

I also think it's amusing that, IMO, "'Ol Skool" Prince wrote more creatively mature songs then the current Prince has.

Also, I have no expectations when it comes to Prince, so i'm constantly never disappointed:

all you said in your previous post was that he lost it since Emancipation. Nowhere did you state that you like any of his current stuff. In the follow up post you did, so your original post came off as if you don't like anything post Emancipation and my feelings are is if its been that long its time for you to leave prince and move on.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I visit several other fansites on a fairly regular basis, and I've never seen the number of fuckin' retards anywhere like I see here.
And by fuckin' retards, I ain't referring to the "fams".

Honest cristicsm about songs or albums you don't like is one thing, (I could write a book about the number of Prince songs I dislike). When your negative comments far outnumber your positive ones, then you might wanna think about either closing your account, or heading on over to the non-P forum for a while.

Anyone ever notice that the "realist" P haters generally have the higher post counts?
They be havin' some muhfuckin' issues. nutso

This ^^^^is what some folks don't seem to understand...

Although I hate the word "haters" (Sounds like a cop out to paint people who have the guts to criticize a celebrity/artist), it's becoming painfully obvious that certain individuals are becoming just as bad as the folks that think Prince walks on water...

The truth is there are not too many fan sites in which you hear folks talk about their favorite artist as if he/she raped their pet dog...lol...The Org tries to hard to prove itself...

I've said it once and I'll say it again...A lot of Prince fans are miserable sacks who pine for the old days....

Newsflash guys:

Fans of Madonna, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Metellica, and ect, ect, have moved on...They understand that their favorite act will never again capture their glory years...They criticize their favorite act within a reasonable frame of mind, and not throw out mindless chatter like, "How come Madonna doesn't use Twitter?"

They understand that they have the past albums to re-live the good ol days...They pay money to see these artists live in concert because they understand they are just that...fans. They understand that Madonna and likes don't owe them shit...lol...

Yet Prince fans, on both sides of the fence, from the folks that worship him on a deity level to the folks that think he's been a worthless hack that should have stopped after he fired Wendy & Lisa, have turned this site into a weird ass war zone...

There's no longer a place for the normal fan who digs Prince without all the drama...

But the irony?....At least the folks that worship Prince have an excuse to be at a "Prince fan" site...

What are the Wall's and Bart's of the Org excuse?

Both of these posts are sum up the situation here at the .org.

I'm, only speaking for myself but I feel I can boil it all down to this...
Ol' schoolers, like me. We've witnessed that man's musical greatness! Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and then some, for years! We KNOW what he is capable of doing because we've heard it, we've seen it and hell, we lived it! headbang

I personally don't want to see him running around in a thong, singing Head or Sexuality but I do keep holding on to the hope that one day maybe just maybe that unmistakable greatness of those songs will return to his music. But then he releases some mediocre, haphazardly thrown together assault on my ears and it's like watching a mentally ill friend slowly withering away. I want to turn away but my love for the person I used to know him to be just won't let me.

Just because he was capable of anything back then does not mean that he is now. Prince is human, and people change. I find that with most artist their earlier work is better so why should Prince be any different. This goes the same with many writers that I follow. Their earlier work which made me a fan is much better than their later work. I just think that people expecting him as an artist to be like he was is very unrealistic, and again it just comes off as people being stuck in the past. shrug

that does not mean we should not be critical.ofcourse, if you don't like a cd you don't like a cd but i still believe people's expectations are unrealistic.

I could not agree more with the above. Also - some of the negative comments are from the ones who love him the most actually. In my opinion, if everyone wants it to be positive - then go start your own website and call it PositivePrince.org or something like that. Kick out anyone who posts something negative. And enjoy your boring ass website.

So, you don't think it's natural for fans of a particular artist on a site that is dedicated to that artist to defend them against over the top criticism?

i think your response is natural if you've spent your life as an isolated fan and this is your first ever contact with online fandom of any kind.

otherwise, i think you're the little guy swinging his arms while the older boy holds you at a distance by pushing his arm against your forehead.

no offense, but criticism is criticism. you're not righting any wrongs by telling people their opinions are invalid even as their own opinions.

who are you trying to convince? and what are you trying to convince them of?

every thread goes meta within five posts.
