You wanna look at Billboard's history and see what other albums hit #1?

Is this really that impressive. After all, I have read that Prince picked the date that had very little, or maybe I should say, the date Prince picked had very little competitiveness, and secondly, if you factor in the save 2.5 percentage then he came far from number one.

Like I have said before, congrats Prince your a slick trickster.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

It's all about timing. There's nothing new and exciting out, so the amount of press Prince has now got the album up there. It'll fade soon.

Yeah.. he had a free week of nothing to bother his sales.. usually january to mid march is a safehaven for albums like this...

It is about vindication, not just musically, but as a business model to some extent.

honestly, the only vindication i see from anyone at times like this is from the fanbase alone. it totally bugs the shit outta me, as if some of ya'll need to have constant signs or something.

I can't speak for anyone but myself. I don't feel any personal vindication out of this, as if my love of Prince needs justification through chart positions/awards/etc. But Prince has made himself a bit of a David against the Goliath of the music biz, and for a long time Goliath was whoopin' dat ass. Therefore, seeing Prince return to the number 1 position after a nearly 17-year absence is vindication for him. I'm also happy to see that an album I dig very much is being received by a larger audience, because I feel it deserves it.

'Tis all! mr.green

Yeah, this album had a better shot at number 1 in this time of year. However, I'm sure that if he had released it during a more competitive time (say November/December), I'm sure sales would naturally be higher as well due to the typical 4th quarter push.

and why isn't this joint on iTunes yet?

what a perfect opportunity to increase sales..

and if the kat was smart, he'd offer the album with a bonus track.

My guess is that the iTunes delay is there to assure longevity of its chart life. Once it is added to iTunes, sales are bound to increase. I'll bet it's added to iTunes once the initial in-store sales start to wane.

It's not about that, it's just nice to see more people "getting it" or at least trying to. Sometimes it's frustrating to see how people just don't get it. And with Prince, it's all too common. Sure, we get it, I just wish everyone would get it. We'd all probably be a little better off.

Neither do I. My students ask lots of questions about Princey, and often when I explain what I can but end up relenting to "Prince is weird!" lol

I personally think adding a bonus track would be crucial to its sales.. it would give even people who own it an incentive to get it..

look at how people buy jap releases... they fork out 20-40 bucks for one.

True. But don't you think most fans would simply buy the bonus track?

If I'm not mistaken, this is just under the TOTAL sales for Chaos and Disorder.

I hope that this album has legs, but time will tell.

Congrats to the man!

Yes, if its given that option.. they always have an option of making it an Album only, or buy track.

But even if it wasn't.. there would be thousands buyin that bonus track.. so it would increase sales.

There was an article about that in the April 6th edition of Rolling Stone magazine. Apparently it might work out better if they withhold on iTunes for awhile. I've only skimmed the article, but if you pick it up it's on page 20.

I'm not too familiar with album sales on iTunes. How much would you think 3121 would stand to gain in sales by availability through iTunes?

I'm not certian on the number.. but it would do damn well if its the no. 1 album.. regardless of who has heard the album, there is an enormous talk about it.. Not to mention that Black Sweat is the no. 1 downloaded song for Prince songs on iTunes right now...

CONGRATULATIONS to Prince - I think deep down inside he was craving for this.

It is funny how having a great tour bringing you back in the spotlight, some noteworthy TV appearance and most of all a major label using its distribution power can have such a great effect.

Makes you wonder what kind of chart success and sales figures Prince would have achieved when he would not have split up with Warner's...

Now the exciting question is: Can he go all the way to platinum? That would be great.

Congratulations! Awesome, and a looooong time coming!
But damn, i thought chart positions and rave reviews didn't matter to P (and a certain bunch of fanatics around here, who have suddenly had a change of heart...). Funny how FINALLY having a big hit makes some people 2-faced...
I'm guessing to help sales not drop too drastically in weeks 2 and 3 NPGMC will announce that no purple tickets have yet been won, so the fanatics will rush out and buy another 5 copies (to give to friends and families, of course...).
I hope he can hold his ego back in interviews over the next couple of months and not gloat too much about being No.1 at the bank AND the charts. nana
Please Prince, no "No.1!" mascaraed on your face in the vacant Slave area of your cheek... nuts
Im guessing finally having another No.1 album has giving him a WAY-BIGGER hard-on than those twins ever could!.... excited

welcome to The Hef Years playboy

congrats dude, u earned it
