see u are wrong if u think i want him to rehash the old stuff but unfortunately he is delivering the same flavor since 1992,and that one leaves a bitter taste in my mouth ,and u guys allways act like it's a masterpiece when the new record comes out it's like youre best friend is acting weird and u don't have the balls to tell him the truth, look that's my opinion i am not trying to stop u actually the world is deluded with all sorts of things i am just very sad that the so called genius,is all cought up in it,sad is the song!!!!!
and who u gonna blame if this record will not sell more then 1million!!!!

i don't think selling 1 million has anything to do with prince, maybe destiny's child, but not prince, he's sold 60 million world-wide already... quality and quantity wise he's done well.. Don't take what i said so personal, you have a valid point there about prince, we're just discussing. You don't really know me, so if i act like i'm best-friends with prince that's up to me. I feel alienated now. But i totally respect your point view.

Prince rocks i'm sooooo happy for him if only the people in the u.k would appreciate him more. I think that every one should of hurd of Prince by now lol dam why can't they teach good music in school as a compulsery lesson.I'm from the U.K well Wales and sometimes my love of Prince leaks out in my school work when people see his symbol on my work they ask wot it is i tell them and they question his existance i got a message for those people 'you better wake up release it'. y'all no what i mean. music

You're forgetting one thing. Lovesexy was a commercial disaster in the states. I'm tired of people looking at Prince's career through rose colored glasses. Albums like ATWIAD, Parade, and Lovesexy sank Prince's commercial career.

True, when compared to the success of 1999, Purple Rain and SOTT.

On the other hand, 1984 was an aberration, with a handful of superstars selling obscene numbers of records at the same time. The three albums you cited sold a total of what, nearly 5 mil, with 4 top-10 singles? Pretty good run for anyone, especially when SOTT sold nearly 2 "rocks" (man, I love the Sopranos) and yielded several top-10 singles in between Parade and Lovesexy. Even after Lovesexy, he had at least 4 albums that charted in the top-10 (Batman, Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls, Musicology and 3121). 2 of those were No. 1.

I think Symbol and The Gold Experience both charted in the top-10 as well. Many of the major releases since 1988 went platinum

No denying the flameout that was Lovesexy, but there are arguments on both sides as to whether Prince "flamed out" or whether his sales simply cooled off, which inevitably happens to all artists.

i don't measure prince on sales at all it seems u all get validation that way for a mediocre record,so if this all doesn't matter way did some of u guys say on this forum if this record doesn't sell it is all promotions fault why is prince allways going back to major labels after all that slave disaster, the truth is that u guys accept whatever is in front of u,that's what u call a fan,i don't want anybody fake around tellin me how great i am when it's not true there was a time when prince was forced to listen and let me tell u it defenately seems to suit him much better, this record record is mediocre at best and unfortunately for some quite some time his fans choose to be the same ,as far for live shows the purple on delivers,as a recording artist he is dead !!!!

this reminds me of "i wanna be ur lover" it's all up to prince, if he wanted to top the charts he would... but he deserves to kick butt even if it's just for one week in 17 years. I still thank him for his music.

what's so mediocre about black sweat, be more specific here? these days people are so busy, prince's audience has less to do with the charts. Let him just be, take it or leave it...

if u prefer UR black eyed peas DELUSIONS better, go right ahead. ... others come and go... prince is for my heart and soul. He has taught me so much and that counts for more. "HOW ARE YOU GONNA WIN?"

- Well...comparing it to ´Kiss´, for example, it´s very mediocre. The same concept...no bass, minimalist dry funk, good groove...but the melody....Black Sweat has no melody! It grew on me since the first listening, and now I can say I like it...but let´s consider I am a hardcore fan and I had patience to let the song grow on me a little bit. I doubt that the casual fan that turns on the radio will get hooked...

It´s interesting...Prince is always making big money, big ´comebacks´ but he doesn´t have a HIT for almost 15 years...I wonder if he will keep on insisting or if he will quit and concentrate on doing great music. I think some songs on 3121 had commercial potential, but dont understand why Prince didnt choose them to promote, since Universal has being very good marketing so far.

So what is "great music". Music good enough to feature in a box-office smash hit movie? What about the new sound prince is bringing? He is also polishing up his persona. what more can we want?

- Great music for me is great composition. One of the best/worst things about 3121 is that it shows Prince as a great trend-follower. He showed the world that he could do a modern production exactly the same way of the songs that hit the dancefloors around the world. It´s like if Paul Mc Cartney could sound like Linkin Park if he wanted to. Different from Rave, 3121 production doesnt sound outdated and I believe songs like ´Incense and candles´ would do pretty well on dance floors if well promoted.

When I said ´great music´ I meant that Prince could focus on HIS music and write great melodies/grooves instead of emulating the mainstream...like he did with TRC, for example.

Charts dont concern me that much really as i buy what i like(commercial or otherwise)and dont follow the mindless pack that love abba, celine dion, elvis, etc, etc but it says alot about the record buying public in the uk when 3121 enters the top 20 at number 9 and then it drops like a lead balloon out the charts and Black Sweat doesnt make the top 40 while people continue to buy pop and dance rubbish like the mindless zombified individuals they mostly are.Prince and his uk career seems to be finished in my opinion which is sad and it would have been nice if prince had done more self-promotion over here for a change or even toured.looks like the united kingdom prince fanatics are getting letdown once more as usual.I want to know seriously AM I THE ONLY PRINCE FANATIC IN SCOTLAND AND THE UK OVERALL?.
