Yeah the injuries have decimated the Packers and the shame of it is they

won't be at full strength taking on Favre. Favre may beat them twice again

this season.

He looked pretty good out there today with a few clutch plays. Hopefully that keeps up.

Yet the owners want an 18-game season - ridiculous.

Sad about the kid from Rutgers. Paralyzed from the neck down.

I also saw the news about a football player from Pace shot dead by the cops - crazy shit going on.

Desean Jackson suffers 'severe concussion' in collision with Robinson. This shit was nasty.

During the steelers browns game James Harrison delivered vicious shots

to Joshua Cribbs and Mohammed Massaquoi. Both players seemed to come

out ok but didn't return to the game. Welcome back Big Ben.

Raiders/49ers, one of the worst football games I've ever seen (thankfully I got to fast forward through most of it instead of watch it live). But still, one down! Haha! lol

How does Tennessee and Jacksonville get a prime time monday night game against

one another when Jacksonville won 5 or 6 games last year while the former won 7

last season.

The rest of the schedule is good....

It seems like ever since MNF moved to ESPN they show alot of dud matchups while SNF get's most of the good ones.

I feel like SNF is getting more EXPECTED good ones as well. They league doesn't actually know what's going to be a good game six months before they're played, though. They have some kind of an idea, but no guarantee. Besides, I just love MNF. I don't actually care who is playing. And there's still stories to be told no matter how bad the teams are. Vince Young STILL trying to become a real QB. The Titans being a dirty team. Del Rio fighting to keep his job. The Titans possibly making the playoffs. Most games still matter this early in the season.

Kinda like they used to treat MNF when it was on ABC, now it seems like they try to showcase every team regardless of what they did the season before.

rolleyes Really??? Does the NFL not have more important things to worry about than Sam Hurd giving a Hook 'em Horns after a TD????? I dunno, like say an impending lock out next season. These fuckers really need to remove the corn cob from their asses. confused

It turns out that Sunday's celebration penalty on the Dallas Cowboys wasn't for leapfrogging, as was announced by the game's referee. Instead, the team was flagged because receiver Sam Hurd(notes) joined Roy Williams in flashing the University o...orns" sign after the touchdown.

NFL vice president of officiating Carl Johnson told Phillips on Monday that the penalty was called on Hurd even though Miles Austin(notes) had been identified as the guilty party. It was assumed that Austin was flagged for his leapfrog performance with Williams. But, evidently, Hurd was the culprit owing to the fact that he joined Williams, a former Longhorns star, in flashing the universal Texas sign following the score (watch the play below).

"I thought it was on Miles because the official on the sideline told me that when I asked him," Phillips said. "And Carl Johnson said specifically that was not the call and he would have been upset if they had called it."

I'm confused. Hurd and Williams did a joint celebration, so I can see why a flag was thrown. But why would the VP of officiating have been upset if the flag had been thrown for the leapfrogging? Isn't that also a planned celebration between two people? As we've said before, all celebration penalties are lame, but why would the NFL think that two people flashing a "Hook 'Em Horns" sign is worse than an impromptu game of leapfrog? Under the rule, both should be penalties.

A better question would be why Sam Hurd is bothering to give the "Hook 'Em Horns" at all. The 25-year old receiver attended Northern Illinois University.

How about the Cowboys start worrying about not making the same stupid mistakes over and over, week after week? Or maybe just scoring some touchdowns and playing some defense instead of celebrating before they've won squat. lol

BTW this hit was a legal hit IMO, Desean still had the ball in his hands when he got popped, no way should Robinson get fined for this.

The hit on Desean was legal...but the league might suspend him out of reaction..

Harrison and Merriweather might get fined too

The rule that the NFL is about to put in effect Wednesday is an over reaction to this weekend events....

It was a brutal weekend..but this is a brutal sport...defensive players will be hesistant to try and break up plays and the game could start to look like a joke...

Ummm, I've BEEN saying that. But the NFL coming out to clarify that they flagged the hook 'em horns sign rather than the leapfrog IS DUMB.

Robinson did that, he did his job knocking the ball outta Desean's hands with that hit. If anything Kevin Kolb is most at fault there, that ball should of never been thrown

Well, it's official. And Graycap is right...proper tackling is a lost art.

NFL to announce suspensions for hits
By Chris Mortensen
ESPN

The NFL will announce by Wednesday that effective this weekend that even first-time offenders face suspension for "devastating hits" and "head shots," according to Ray Anderson, the league's executive vice president of football operations.

"We can't and won't tolerate what we saw Sunday," Anderson said Monday. "We've got to get the message to players that these devastating hits and head shots will be met with a very necessary higher standard of accountability. We have to dispel the notion that you get one free pass in these egregious or flagrant shots."

Anderson was alluding to the normal disciplinary measures in which the league has issued fines for first-time offenders and, very often, second-time offenders.

"What we saw Sunday was disturbing," Anderson said. "We're talking about avoiding life-altering impacts."Sunday's games produced a number of violent hits.

The Eagles' DeSean Jackson and the Falcons' Dunta Robinson were knocked out of their game after a frightening collision in which Robinson launched himself head first into Jackson. Both sustained concussions, and Jackson is not expected to play in Week 7.

Ravens tight end Todd Heap took a vicious hit from Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather that Heap called "one of those hits that shouldn't happen." The team was in contact with the league about the tackle.

Steelers linebacker James Harrison sidelined two Browns players with head injuries after jarring hits. An NFL spokesman said one of the tackles, on Josh Cribbs, was legal. The Browns were more upset about Harrison's hit on Mohamed Massaquoi, which the league is reviewing.

And Jets safety Jim Leonhard was flagged 15 yards for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Brandon Lloyd in a 24-20 win over the Broncos.

Anderson would not speculate earlier Monday on how many players would be punished for hits from the past Sunday's games. Players also can be ejected from games for illegal hits, but that's rare.

Chris Mortensen is the senior NFL analyst for ESPN. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

These young cats should do themselves a favor and got talk 2 some older retired players about the long term impact of receiving and giving out these type of hits.

It is NOT a good look 10 years after retiring.

Not even 10 years . . .

NEW YORK -- A leading forensic pathologist told The New York Times that brain damage suffered by former NFL defensive back Andre Waters may have led to his depression and ultimately his suicide.

The forensic pathologist, Dr. Bennet Omalu of the University of Pittsburgh, told The Times that the condition of Waters' brain tissue was what would be expected in an 85-year-old man, and there were characteristics of someone being in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The doctor said he believes the brain damage had come from or had been quickened by successive concussions.

Funny thing about that Gray is alot of the retired cats actually frown at the new rules the league has regarding the KO hits, they say the league is too soft now, lol!! Last night on the MNF post game show Matt Millien and Steve Young went back and forth for a good ten minutes on these new rules, of course Matt was aganist them and Steve was for them.
