Again, it's not whether or not you're impressed with who she influenced. That isn't what gets you into the Hall. What gets you in is the influence itself, not whether or not people are impressed with who you influenced. It's pop music, not Mozart. With that being said, she has influenced a slew of artists throughout several generations.

Who has she influenced? lol Surely you jest. The question should be who hasn't she influenced? Her stamp is on just about every damned dance/pop/R&B artist to come out since CONTROL blasted onto the music landscape 29 years ago. It doesn't matter if you think the people she has influenced aren't "worthy" enough, or that it's a "joke" list. The fact remains that she has influenced artists, period, and that's the subject here, and one of the reasons why people are inducted into the RNR HOF. The truth is, the list of artists she's inspired goes all the way back to the 1980s. In the '80s, Tiffany was doing that hand/face wave thing that Janet made famous in "The Pleasure Principle" video. And then there was Pebbles, Jody Watley, Paula Abdul, Karyn White and Nia Peeples (she may not have "inspired" some of those women, per se, but you can best believe that CONTROL's success opened the doors for all of those women's solo albums). In the '90s there was TLC, Salt N Pepa (both groups had similar tomboy-to-sex siren transformations that Janet famously underwent between RN and janet.) and Aaliyah, and in the new millennium there was Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Destiny's Child (Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, specifically), Ciara, Tinashe, Missy Elliott, P!nk, Keri Hilson, Fefe Dobson, Kat Graham, etc., etc., etc. Lady Gaga has called Janet a "legend." Rihanna basically ripped Janet's "Velvet Rope" era look during her own "Loud" era, and even brought audience members onstage with her during her concerts for a dance/tease ala Janet. Mya's "Case of the Ex" video is practically a scene-by-scene remake of Janet's "You Want This" video. Kelly Clarkson and Swedish artist Robyn have covered Janet songs in concert. Kylie Minogue and her sister Danni have sampled and/or covered Janet songs. When Alanis Morrissette was a dance/pop artist in her native Canada, she would go see Janet concerts just to derive inspiration, and she performed live covers of "Black Cat" while part of the Canadian band The New York Fries. Solange Knowles once said that she is a student of Janet. Selena Gomez said a couple of years ago that her tour was inspired by Janet. And her influence doesn't just end with female artists. Chris Brown has videos that mimick Janet's (his "Yeah 3x" video is basically a carbon copy of Janet's "Alright"), N'SYNC and Backstreet Boys have spoken on their admiration for her, british artist Peter Andre homaged RN in the video for his single "Defender", Bruno Mars has covered Janet in concert several times, Adam Levine once Tweeted "Even for as huge as Janet Jackson is, I still feel like her records are underrated," and that the nude photo of him with the woman's hand covering his genitals from behind was the male version of Janet's 1993 Rolling Stone magazine cover, and Usher has given Janet props for her work, even contributing to her MTV ICON special. The rock world has even given her props, with Tommy Lee praising "Black Cat", and Lemmy from Motorhead once saying that he loved the song so much that he wanted to remake it with her. Go Youtube "Janet Black Cat cover" and witness the myriad of unsigned rock artists and bands who've covered the song. Her songs are constantly sampled by Hip-Hop artists. Her influence defies music genres, which is the reason she is the only artist in the history of the Grammys to be nominated in the Rock, Pop, R&B, Dance AND Hip-Hop categories. For years, pop artists have shown their Janet influence in their own concerts, women, famous and non-famous, have been trying to copy her hairstyles, and people have been mimicking her photos (her infamous janet. album/1993 Rolling Stone magazine cover is arguably THE most paid-homage-to photo of a female pop star of all time). Hell, she even made the headset mic a thing, and soon after she was seen sporting one in various videos and performances from the CONTROL era, artists in genres varying from Pop (Madonna) to R&B (Bobby Brown) to rock (Kip Winger) were seen wearing them in videos and onstage. So yeah, Janet's influenced a LOT of people, and the remarks made today by the RNR HOF CEO just cement that fact.

are you 12 yaars old? i mean, why is my opinion "mess". The long posts of artists pics includes people she influenced that I dont find talented at all. Its just an observation. No where did I state that Janet does not belong in the hall of fame. I could care less.

i don't really have a dog in this fight and i'm admittedly not a janet jackson fan and i haven't read all of all of the comments here, but...

it seems to me that everybody keeps saying 'artist' a lot (especially with regards to those jj might have influenced)...seriously? most of those mentioned rate 'entertainer' at best (janet included, just my opinion), manufactured profit producer (read product) at worst. without stylists, choreographers, writers, producers, connections....you wouldn't know who any of these people are.

i think the contrast between jj's (regardless of her influence) and the rest of the nominee fields' artistic talent is pretty stark.

Thank you! Thats kind of what I was trying to say. Not whether or not she belongs in the ROF but going through that long posts of people she influenced I felt myself feeling not impressed at all. lol like the poster said referred to what i consider a "a joke list" of influences. that's all.

none of the people she influence has a chance in hell of getting in the hall of fame thenselves. janet is a cool artist who put out good singles, great videos, can dance, looks good, and puts on a good show. however.. let not forget she is not that great of a vocalist and she did not wright agood portion of her music and lyrics, it was her ex husband. the only reason she would get is because she is michael sister.

Would Jam & Lewis make the Hall without Janet? I don't think so.

They wouldn't get in with just material from Force MDs, SOS Band and Cherelle

Hits are not a criteria for getting in the museum. Percy Sledge had one really big hit (but not exactly a one hit wonder though) and he's in. A lot of the rock bands had few if any Top 40 hits like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc. The Peter Gabriel era of Genesis only had one hit in the US and they were inducted, it wasn't just the more well known 1980s 3 man lineup. Huey Lewis & The News has more hits than all of those groups, so if that was the way to get in, Huey Lewis would be in. lol So would John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Journey, Kenny Loggins, Whitney Houston, Johnny Mathis, Lionel Richie, Richard Marx, Bryan Adams, and many other acts.

What does the people she influenced getting into the Rock Hall have to do with Janet? The Weeknd is influenced by Michael Jackson does that mean he'll get in? The quality of artistry from the artists Janet has influenced does not diminish her impact and imfluence. Every big artist including MJ, Madonna and Prince have shitty artists who they have influenced, but what does that have to do with them? You sound mad. And Janet has co-written the majority of her music and rather you think she wrote them or not is irrelevant. At the end of the day she owns the masters of all her music and gets royalty every time her music is sampled so there's that. And if Janet gets in because of who she is related to, I'm expecting a nom for Latoya and Rebbie as well since that's the only criteria for induction.

That's a DAMN lie. Out of their 16 #1's, 10 are with Janet. You have to be delusional to think they would even get a mention for the few hits they did for Patti Austin and New Edition. Their most notable and critically acclaimed work is with Janet. If it wasn't for Janet coming back, you wouldn't even be hearing their names right now. When was the last time they had any kinda press or success in the last 10 years prior to 2015? I'll wait.

They had some moderate success before Janet. But it's incomparable next to the success they garnered with Janet. I'm not taking anything away from them. They are geniuses. But one can't say they would be as legendary as they are today if they had not worked with Janet. And vice-versa.

Also, Jam and Lewis do their most eclectic and varied work with Janet. As much as I love their stuff with New Edition it's pretty much just r&b. With Janet they really stretch their sound with different genres. They bring the best out of each other and Janet is a big part of that because she wants to try different things. They're an awesome team.

Vanilla Ice's To The Extreme sold around 15 million. Sales are not a criteria for getting in either.
