lowkey

rock and roll did not start with white guys playing guitars, it was actually derived from the blues, so basically the r&b artists are just as if not moreso a accurate representation of rock & roll.

Nice points but Classical Music fits perfectly under "Music Hall" since it is broad and nice to see you posting! I honestly don't see no point in changing it since it its been the RHOHF for decades but people still make these rock vs non- rock acts arguments when people get inducted. I think by now it should be understood that its not an honor that is meant specifically for rock acts. There are a ton of non rock acts in the hall.

  • I think the thing is, people are thinking that "Rock & Roll" and "Rock" are the same forms of music. And they are not. So when people see a R&B act and more recently hip-hop acts getting inducted, they say "Hey, that's not Rock & Roll." Well, neither is a band like The Doors.
  • This was considered Rock & Roll.

  • Or this. And they're even singing "Rock & Roll" in the vamp or bridge towards the end.

  • The Doors don't sound anything like these songs I just posted. That's because the Doors are a Rock Band. Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, a Rock & Roll group. Those songs are more rhythm & blues bread tunes. Which is basically the father or Rock & Roll.

  • Hey, MJscarousal !!!!!

Very good points! nod

Remember what happened to the Late Music Queen Donna Summer, The Powers That Be did not induct her until she passed..Chic does not have legeions of Fans that can keep them in the Top 10 or The Top 5..Fan-voting is one thing, but it will take the 800 member voting panel to decide Chic's fate....

It's so unfair.Apparently,"disco" is still a bad word as far as these voters are concerned. They didn't even wanna induct Donna Summer. They waited until she died (!) before they inducted her disbelief

Sad but true... Also disco music had some of the most skilled musicians and singers... Disco was watered down, as most genres thats why it gets a bad rep, not to mention the racist/homophobic undertones from the 70s... Chic should be in the Rock hall of fame, Nile Rodgers is probably one of the most influential producers of the past 30 yrs... He created a sound that everyone wanted and still try to create. Where would Madonna be without her classic Like a virgin record, that Nile produced with the help of Bernard.... A shame what they did to Donna Summer, one of the most gifted singers of her era...

exactly! Just a few years ago,Daft Punk had a huge hit with "Get Lucky" featuring Nile Rodgers...proving that, even nowadays, artists are still trying to get that 'Chic sound'.And he also produced Duran Duran's new album (a band that's been borrowing the 'Chic sound' for years).

Thanks love, you know these old (majority are white) rock fans kill me with this hatred towards disco, pop/r&b etc, as if rock was created by Elvis... neutral... Many of the great disco records, came out of the soul and r&b tradition, it is funny how these people never blame the rock acts that took disco elements into their music like Kiss did... They can't tell me that those disco burnings or disco sucks campaigns were not racist or homophobic, when they even burned motown and stax records... eek I hope Chic, Chaka and Janet get inducted!

LOVE this! The fans of those top five bands are clearly using a bot to cheat, but there are six performer inductees, and the fan vote only counts as one. She will get in.

I don't think Chic/Mile Davis cares to be honest but its sad when you have acts like them and Barry WHite who are constantly snubbed for years but an act like Green Day is in the RHOF confused

Same! It would be nice if Chic gets in considering they have been snubbed for decades. It would be nice if they all got in but I think acts that have been snubbed longer should be in the hall by now.

The JBs will most def make it. I think as the backing grop, much like the Famous Flames made it a few years back.

Note sure about the Spinners. The last vocal group to make it was the Little Anthony & The Imperials about 5 years back. I do think they're next in line for (50s, 60s, 70s) vocal groups though.

The Spinners deserve to make it.They were arguably the biggest R&B vocal group of the 70s.The songs that they recorded with legendary producer Thom Bell are undisputable classics.
