Well sorry but its about time for CHICAGO and CHEAP TRICK, Chicago should have been ages ago and at least on the ballot, same goes for Cheap Trick

I agree,Chicago should have been in there a long time ago.

I like Cheap Trick, too but there are a few other bands who are more deserving, imo.

I feel so bad for Chic confused For the past few years, they've been getting nominated but never getting inducted. It's so unfair.Their influence is undeniable! Rock bands like Queen,Blondie and Duran Duran were even trying to get the 'Chic' sound!!

It's so unfair.Apparently,"disco" is still a bad word as far as these voters are concerned. They didn't even wanna induct Donna Summer. They waited until she died (!) before they inducted her disbelief

So if they only induct seven like last year, and the top 5 vote getters get a single ballot each, that still leaves Janet, Chaka, NIN and The Smiths as long shots!

Janet was in the lead for a long while but the rock fans came out in droves lol. They're devising a voting plan over on Janet Xone because it's obvious that when the rockers saw Janet way in the lead they were like "Oh hell no!" Glad the fan poll only counts as one vote, but it's just so exciting that she (finally) got the nod. I'm completey stoked.

Someone is hacking the system. The Future Rock Legends Twitter tweeted that someone is using bots to raise the numbers of the top 5 bands. So hopefully they can let the Hall know what is going down so it can be corrected.

I figured as much. When the nominees were first announced, Janet was pretty much in the lead for a day and a half, but then all of a sudden those five bands bolted to the top with those exaggeratedly high numbers. They need to clamp down on that, pronto.

considering the first 5 are actually rock bands, i see no problem with janet losing. legitimately or not.

What does that have to do with anything? "Rock" music and "Rock & Roll" are totally different.

oh good lord.... either way, janet is not rock, or rock & roll, or rock n roll, or rock and roll. there, did i cover all the variations for you?

.

it has to do with EVERYTHING. its called the ROCK AND ROLL hall of the fame. if they want all this other stuff in there and still have some kind of credibility it needs to the music hall of fame, or the entertainment hall of fame. it is clearly not the rock and roll hall of fame.

It's called The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because it sounds better than the Pop Music Hall of Fame. And lol at other stuff. The first year of inductees back in 1986 included Sam Cooke, James Brown and Ray Charles ... or other stuff as you call it.

I really like The Cars and Cheap Trick, but there are other, more deserving bands who should get in first.

Gonna be really pissed if Chicago doesn't get in,although I feel confident that they will.

Steve Miller deserves to get in,too.

Did you actually think before you started to type? As others have explained, there are a myriad of artists who have been inducted over the years who are not actual rock n roll bands. It is not an honor reserved for rock artists only, so why people continue to have this "So and so shouldn't get in because they're not a rock artist" mentality is baffling. With that being said, Janet most definitely deserves to not only get in, but she should have been nominated upon eligibility eight years ago.

Well, they have all this other stuff in there and since they have all this other stuff in there already, Janet neeeds to be in there too. The ship to only have rock n' roll or rock in there has long sailed.

But really it would be much better to rename this thing the "popular music hall of fame" and you wouldn't have this yearly discussion on who should be in there and who shouldn't.

I agree but I think they should just call it "Music Hall of Fame" being some of the artists and musicians inducted are not all pop stars.

  • But they're the musicians who helped make those "pop" records. But Music Hall is to broad I think. Because then Classical music will come into play.

  • I think Rock & Roll Hall is perfect. Because it's starts of from the beginning of the Rock & Roll era in the early 50s. And from there, it splinters off into Doo-Wop which I think is the beginning of pop music from the early 60 from songs like "How Much Is That Doggy in the Window" lol. Soul music, which os Rhythm & Blues and R&R. Than you have Rock music, which is more R&R and Blues.

  • And than you have the music before the Rock & Roll era of the early 50s. Your Rhythm & Blues or Race music. Jazz music and the Big Band sound. Blues. Country. Boogie-Woogie. Folk.

Nice points but Classical Music fits perfectly under "Music Hall" since it is broad and nice to see you posting! I honestly don't see no point in changing it since it its been the RHOHF for decades but people still make these rock vs non- rock acts arguments when people get inducted. I think by now it should be understood that its not an honor that is meant specifically for rock acts. There are a ton of non rock acts in the hall.

  • I think the thing is, people are thinking that "Rock & Roll" and "Rock" are the same forms of music. And they are not. So when people see a R&B act and more recently hip-hop acts getting inducted, they say "Hey, that's not Rock & Roll." Well, neither is a band like The Doors.
  • This was considered Rock & Roll.

  • Or this. And they're even singing "Rock & Roll" in the vamp or bridge towards the end.

  • The Doors don't sound anything like these songs I just posted. That's because the Doors are a Rock Band. Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, a Rock & Roll group. Those songs are more rhythm & blues bread tunes. Which is basically the father or Rock & Roll.

  • Hey, MJscarousal !!!!!
