Seems odd to put those records on the new album, but with the cancellation of Angel's Advocate I think the fan demand was high to hear the Mary J Blige and R Kelly duets. A cover of GM's One More Try would be incredible! However, when I saw that song on the tracklist, I thought of the Timmy T song. lol No idea why. George's would be way better.

I know she's still young and has so many Feats under her belt as a Recording Artist, but I'd like her to do an All Rock album or even a Classic Standards Album..I think she could pull off a "Songbook" concept Album from any of her Favorite Diva Legends...MiMi has enough radio-friendly music to last 100 lifetimes..I want her to step away from Contemporary Pop & R&B if only for a minute....

**************************************************************************

I think MiMi would do the "Dionne Warwick Songbook" justice.....She doesnt have to hurt herself with the songs...Dionne has beautiful songs that would fit her voice...

Huh, she looks nothing like what she's supposed to look like on the album cover or in those promo pics. She looks like she's bloated up so much again that she doesn't even fit in her surgically altered face. eek

Don't get me wrong, I've found her attractive all these years, plastic sturgery or not, even during her "bigger" phases, but this is ridiculous.

I was thinking the same thing. You can't have an album cover like that, with all of your bits out, and then go out promoting it looking like a different person.

umm, i don't want to sound crazy or anything, just an honest question. and I don't guess anyone can answer it DEFINITIVELY, but i'd like to hear. Are Mariah's male fans primarily gay men? I always thought she had a great voice, and the Can't Let Go song is my fave, but her rhythmlessness and lack of sex appeal just never did it for me.

she's just OK to me visually, i never heard bruhs checkin' for her like that. of course most would probably smash but....it makes sense she's with a "nick cannon" type. hmm, i digress, but i can't IMAGINE seeing her live, i'd be bored out my mind. by contrast, Janet, (not to hijack) even with her weak voice is still my once upon a future baby mama

Mariah to Receive Pop Icon Award

May 13th

The World Music Awards is an event that is held sporadically, but it's taking place this year...and Mariah Carey will be one of the big honorees.

At the event, scheduled to take place May 27 in Monaco, Mariah will receive the Pop Icon Award, and will also have the honor of opening the show. This won't be the only big honor she's received at this event, though: in 2003, she received the Diamond Award, presented to artists who've sold more than 100 million albums in their career.

She also received the Legend Award, given to artists who've made "outstanding contributions to the music industry." And in 2000, she received the Millennium Award for being the best-selling female artist of all time.

Among the categories are World's Best Song, World's Best Male & Female Artist, World's Best Group and World's Best Entertainer. There are dozens of nominees in each category. Visit WorldMusicAwards.com to cast your vote.

Mariah Carey’s opening the World Music Awards and getting a ‘gong’

Story filed by Brad O'Mance on May 13, 2014

MariahOmnipresent chanteuse Mariah Carey will open the World Music Awards and collect the Pop Icon Award, it’s been announced.

The awards, which take place on May 27 in Monte Carlo, last honoured the ‘You’re Mine (Eternal)’ hitmaker back in 2003 when she won the Diamond Award for selling over 100m copies of her albums worldwide.

As the blurb on their official website states, things have stepped up a notch now:

“Mariah will receive the Pop Icon Award at this year’s World Music Awards. She has sold over 200m albums and is the recording artist with the most number one singles in America.”

So there we go.

You do realize that all the sales numbers have been messed with to make them look larger than they are? For instance views on youtube count. Plus, the record label has computers set to automatically view and review videos on line to increase sales. Not to mention the record company buy the albums themselves and then resell them to increase sales numbers. They do this for all the "important" artists.

Record sales numbers have always been suspect but I trust them more after the Soundscan system was implemented. Prior to that, the labels were just making them up and throwing numbers out there for the "important" artists. A lot of the "unimportant" ones got jipped big-time!

I never quite understood the TRUST more in soundscan which is a corporate owned entity, if labels have money in the company doing the calculating alot was bloated. I never understood how "Numbers" for a new cd sales released on Tuesday would be OUT on Wednesday or Thursday for a following weeks debut and people bought into that? Granted the beginning of soundscan came when music sold, so no one really questioned if Master P sold 800,000 in a few days or was that some under the table money going down. I really became suspect of this when Mariah left sony and was on Capitol for one album, and all of a sudden there was a war with a single, for "loverboy" and the single for "bootylicious" both being sold below list prices and clearly for chart positions, this was basically a new form of payola, except now people didnt lose jobs for it, they got promoted for it.

I'm sorry, but that new single. neutral I don't hate it, but there's no way in hell that it's going to do the trick to get some much-needed buzz for this record. Does the world really want to hear Mariah doing trap? I would find that hard to believe. Chasing trends just looks more desperate the older you get, and very few older artists are able to get away with appropriating youth culture.

This 11th hour single was crucial, as the good buzz from Beautiful is gone, and the subsequent singles both tanked. Thirsty could have done what It's Like That did for TEOM if she'd had a smash to follow it up with, but the whole roll out of this record has just been one jumbled mess. Thirsty (way too many easy jokes with that title) sounds like the nail in the coffin. And why does the cover art look like it was 1 or 2 noses ago, from '99 or something?

Well, I'm sure the Soundscan system, just like any other system, has it's flaws. But, it's more reliable than someone at a label claiming an album sold 25 million copies and not being able to back the claim up or backing it up by saying, "That's how many albums we shipped". There is a huge difference between shipping and selling. We all know how the labels used to ship albums in unbelievably huge numbers for certain artists just so they could get an RIAA certification. But, keeping it on the downlow that a significant number of those shipped albums were returned to the label because they didn't sell. So while Soundscan may not be 100% reliable, it's better than the "system" that was in place prior to it's inception.

Oh, Mimi. While "Thirsty" is barely a step above the song with Rick Ross, it's still something I would expect to hear from a young girl just starting out. I fear this is going to turn out to be her worst album yet. Maybe she will take a few years off after she drops this album. The poor thing is just musically lost and confused. Her musical career is in dire need of a major make-over.

ITA with everything Schlomo said in his last post. This is not a strong lead single. Where's the "Dreamlover" or "Heartbreaker"? Heck, I'd take another "Honey" at this point. This is a terrible first single. Not a terrible song, just so middle of the road and not exciting.

SoulAlive

Mariah is a very talented artist, but she keeps wasting her talent on weak, lackluster material disbelief she needs to stay away from these trendy sounds and try a more soulful, organic sound. Her voice deserves that.
