I wonder if the song I Miss You he gave to Beyonce for her last album is about his first love ?

great song and i wish Frank all the best, he's getting a lot of support.

Yes I think it is. His version is pretty decent as well, I'd be good if he released a studio version of it.

Your Letter is Revolutionary:’ Celebs Show Public Support of Frank Ocean After He Admits Homosexuality

Source: rap-up.com

In a move that can only be envied by other celebrities wishing to control their own narratives, yesterday Frank Ocean eloquently answered the sexuality question. The singer/songwriter silenced speculation by posting on his Tumblr page that his first love was a man.

He wrote in part:

4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide….By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiating with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love. It changed my life….I don’t have any secrets I need to keep anymore. . . . I feel like a free man.”

Frank explained via Tumblr page that he wrote the piece back in December and intended to put it in the liner notes of his new album Channel Orange, but “with all the rumors going round.. [he] figured it’d be good to clarify..”.

The response to Frank’s admission was swift and ranged the full spectrum of support to disgust. However, several celebrities came out in support of the singer’s sexuality and the fact that he revealed it.

Hip Hop Mogul and motivational tweeter Russel Simmons wrote ”The Courage Of Frank Ocean Just Changed The Game!” on GlobalGrind.com saying:

Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear. His gifts are undeniable. His talent, enormous. His bravery, incredible. His actions this morning will uplift our consciousness and allow us to become better people.

Author dream hampton wrote on her own Tumblr page a thank you to Frank Ocean saying:

We are all made better by your decision to share publicly…We admire the great courage and beauty and fearlessness in your coming out, not only as a bisexual Black man, but as a broken hearted one….A million twirls on this spinning ocean blue globe in this vast endless blackness for you my love.

dream hampton also said that when she emailed her letter to Jay-Z, he immediately posted it on his website as a show of support for Frank.

Other celebrities took to Twitter to express their support.

"Columbus Short Tweets In Support of Frank Ocean"

"Solange Tweets about Frank Ocean"

"Cormega tweets about Frank Ocean"

"Somaya Reece tweets about Frank Ocean"

The response to Frank Ocean is still in it’s infant stages, but right now the glitterati seems to be shouting down – or silencing altogether – any high-profile negative response. It will be interesting to see if Frank’s courage inspires any other artists to come out of their closets soon or if they’ll just stand muted on the sidelines observing Frank’s repercussions.

What do you think? Were you surprised by the support of some celebs and/or the deafening silence of others?

Def Jam President Joie Manda & Other Celebs Come Out To Support Frank Ocean!

Posted 4 hours 8 min ago by Diana Zelikman for Global Grind Staff
Click here to find out more! Advertisement

While not many in the hip-hop community have come to the support of Frank Ocean's sexuality, all the big players have and that's what really counts.

VIDEO: SURPRISE! Frank Oc...onths Ago!

Our very own Russell Simmons commended Frank Ocean for his valiance and strength and Def Jam President Joie Manda has come out in support of the singer as well.

Manda gave voice to his thoughts with this heartrending statement:

"Yesterday was an important day for all of us. Frank Ocean is an amazing artist and a more amazing man. The courage he displayed in his beautiful and eloquent letter was touching on many levels. Frank broke down a wall that should never have been built. The overwhelming show of support from his peers was awesome and inspiring. Island Def Jam is so proud to stand beside Frank Ocean - the artist and man - now and always."

Singer Luke James offered his own words of support to the Odd Future member, saying:

"It takes a brave being to stand in front of thousands of strangers and recite ideas of who they are. But it takes even more courage for a soul to stand before millions and be the actual reflection of the ideas. I am happy for my bro Chris."

Fred Da Godson separated the man from the music by stating:

"I like his music, his preference is his preference."

Well Tyler said this on Formspring:

hahaha yeah, ive know for a while, he told me a long time ago. it was just funny cause i was getting bashed as a homophobe or whatever and i kept saying dude how am i one? i have gay friends like what the fuck leave me alone haha. yeah thats my nigga tho, shit is hard for him but he did that.

He never full out said he was bi, but people assumed. And Tyler seems to hint that he's gay.

Who knows tho? For now I'm thinking he's bi.

So that's why there's this assumption of whether or not he's for one party or two? I'm going for two parties too. lol

Frank never labeled himself as Gay or Bi.. He just posted the liner notes he wrote for his cd after one reviewer of his album wrote a story about 3 of the songs referencing a dude.. the gay or bi label came from the media..

Ahh... gotcha! Yeah because from the letter I reread he didn't really state the "sexuality", just that he wanted to share his story.

He could do like Michael Stipe and say he's a "queer artist". lol Some folks rather call themselves queer than bi or gay because they probably hate to be tagged as such.

I know! That actually quite bothers me. People who explain about their lives the way Frank does don't want sympathy, they're just keeping it real but this world uses what you say and decide whether you're a hero or a pariah. I don't get it really. neutral

The way I took it is that Frank is just Frank, and he just happens to be bisexual. He doesn't let it define him, and he doesn't wanna become bisexual Jesus. But folks take little Tumblr posts and run with it. neutral
