ya'll we tan....when the tan goes away...our skin goes back to its rgular ole color. In the summer, I'm darker than in the winter. If prince isn't in the sun, as he would be more so in his younger days, I would imagine....his skin would be lighter. No bleaching. I could show you pics of my daughter in the summer vs the winter and you would think she did a michael on ya ass. My daughter is the same color as prince, and she is so freakin' light in the winter....but summer time comes....she's the golden child.

As a mother, I don't want my child to not like who she is and what she looks like so I am concerned with some who seem to have some issues with themselves no matter what is the motivation, race, cultural norms, media, or whatever because my child does watch the media.

Now do I think we can go to far. Hell yes. All this talk about dyin' ya hair blonde means ya wanna be white is a bit much. Some things are just for fashion and fun but other things we need to look closely at..and btw..lil kim has verbalized her desire to look like Pamela Anderson.

Even though it's okay to "experiment" with things like hair color, or clothes to ENHANCE, but when someone uses it to try and "mask" who they really are and morph into somethin they're not (just out of fantasy) it shows that they're cravin self esteem here. but all of this "be who you are" or "do what works for you" becomes hypocritical when we then tear people apart for doing just that. we may not agree with mj's lighter skin or lil kim's desire to appear more caucasian or catwoman's constant plastic surgery but how can we, on one side of our mouth, say "do what you think expresses YOU" and then five seconds later "oh, she shouldn't have done that because she don't love herself." how do any of us know if lil kim loves herself or not? maybe she likes the way caucasian women look and she just wants that look. maybe catwoman feels glamourous looking like a jone rivers freakshow gone even worse. who knows?

the bottom line is that we can't tell someone to express themself if we only want to see an expression that WE agree with. kinda contradictory, no?
