but all of this "be who you are" or "do what works for you" becomes hypocritical when we then tear people apart for doing just that. we may not agree with mj's lighter skin or lil kim's desire to appear more caucasian or catwoman's constant plastic surgery but how can we, on one side of our mouth, say "do what you think expresses YOU" and then five seconds later "oh, she shouldn't have done that because she don't love herself." how do any of us know if lil kim loves herself or not? maybe she likes the way caucasian women look and she just wants that look. maybe catwoman feels glamourous looking like a jone rivers freakshow gone even worse. who knows?

the bottom line is that we can't tell someone to express themself if we only want to see an expression that WE agree with. kinda contradictory, no?

here we go with negro lesson 101:

ya'll we tan....when the tan goes away...our skin goes back to its rgular ole color. In the summer, I'm darker than in the winter. If prince isn't in the sun, as he would be more so in his younger days, I would imagine....his skin would be lighter. No bleaching. I could show you pics of my daughter in the summer vs the winter and you would think she did a michael on ya ass. My daughter is the same color as prince, and she is so freakin' light in the winter....but summer time comes....she's the golden child.

Good lawd.

And Supa and Madame: come on now. Just saying "do u" isn't what we're talking about on this thread. We are talking about self image and self hatred, which can come in many different forms. As a mother, I don't want my child to not like who she is and what she looks like so I am concerned with some who seem to have some issues with themselves no matter what is the motivation, race, cultural norms, media, or whatever because my child does watch the media.

Now do I think we can go to far. Hell yes. All this talk about dyin' ya hair blonde means ya wanna be white is a bit much. Some things are just for fashion and fun but other things we need to look closely at..and btw..lil kim has verbalized her desire to look like Pamela Anderson. eek

Rhonda/Calhoun, point taken...understood....agreed with smile

I really didn't read this whole thread just that people were tripping out on her look and I thought the picture is probably one of the better one's she's ever taken. Not from the standpoint of her skin color or her hair or plastic surgery (I wasn't even aware until now that she was having any) but that she looks a hell of a lot more classy in this pic than any time I've ever seen her. And she has said she wanted to look like Pam Anderson? I'm out of the loop cuz I had no idea if that is true.

Anyway, I don't disagree with what you guys are saying about blacks wanting to act white, to say it's sad that MJ has done everything in his power to denegrofy himself is an understatment. I get irritated in the same way when gay people try and act straight. Just be yaself nod

Great stuff. Bothers the hell out of me seeing black folks trying to achieve the American standard of beauty(that's why I can't stand seeing sistas with blonde hair). Wake the F--- up people, black is beautiful!

Thank you so much. clapping I couldn't have said it better. I cant stand it when males OR females (dark-skinned and all) tryin to sport whitish-yellow hair anyways, because most of the time it DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT.....

Even though it's okay to "experiment" with things like hair color, or clothes to ENHANCE, but when someone uses it to try and "mask" who they really are and morph into somethin they're not (just out of fantasy) it shows that they're cravin self esteem here. Serious help is needed, cause this IS a disgrace.

Like Rhonda has said (on many threads, lol, & I agree w/ her) I don't mind Black folks rockin' the blonde when it's for fashion. Hell Kim has worn all kinds of colored hair (pink, blue, green, blonde). If it was just the hair I wouldn't even trip, shit like this looks alright on her (trashy as fuck, but she's a trashy broad lol):

Her haircolor is really the least of her problems folks neutral But when you start to compound that with fake eyes, lightened skin - crazy shit like that, yo ass got a problem. This is Kim before she started fucking w/ her face/body:

I think Creamy is saying that strictly based on the outfit, neatness of the wig, the fact that her nipples are actually INSIDE the dress for a change. The racial stuff gets past a lot of people, they're just programmed that way & it's not the first thing she notices in the pic neutral
