Prince's Autopsy Has Been Completed as His Body Is Released to His Family

Prince's autopsy was completed on Friday at 1 p.m. CDT, Midwest Medical Examiner's Office announced in a press release.

While they did not reveal the cause of death, they did say that the musician's body would be released to his family on Friday and that they would report "anything relevant to the investigation" to the authorities who are still investigating Prince's death.

The medical examiner's office notes that the results of their autopsy may take several days and the full toxicology report may take weeks.

Prince's autopsy was performed on Friday by Chief Medical Examiner A. Quinn Strobl, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office announced on Friday.

It has to be a bit of a mind trip. I listened to the 911 tape when they said the person dead was Prince. I mean, what did that operator think in that moment? Did their heart sink, like ours did? Were they a hardcore fan? Did they cry a bit after?

On the other hand, it's still their job, and if it were me, as much as I'd hate to do those things to someone I admired, I would at least do it to the best of my ability as a professional, and lay out the truth. It's what that soul would have wanted.

I saw something odd on MSNBC. An expert said no autopsy takes 4 hours? Don't know what that means.

omg. Cyril Weckt, a coroner and expert said it was probably a drug overdose. God say that is not right.

I just saw a report that I'm sure will start spreading like wild fire about some drug dealer claiming Prince was hooked on Dilaudid pills and Fentanyl patches for the last 25 years. I just can't with the bullshit.

the thought of Prince going through THAT horrific process is really hurting my soul deeply..

I feel the same way. I'm trying not to think about it but I have a mind that often obsesses deeply on details of even stupid, trivial stuff and thinking about this stuff just ... is troubling.

I feel your pain. Ultimately, Prince lived his early life in Minnie with Tyka, Andre, and Chazz, and it's touching how they're here for him after death, decades later.
