I saw something odd on MSNBC. An expert said no autopsy takes 4 hours? Don't know what that means.

I would imagine in general terms, perhaps few autopsies are done in such quick time. However, that said, there could also be exceptions where the cause of death is so obvious that a conclusion is reached in relatively quick time. Perhaps whatever caused Prince to pass on was in that category in that the people conducting the autopsy were able to determine the cause very early on in the process.

a lot that's unusual here:

crime scene folks were there all day when he was found and they must be sunmoned to the scene of a death for reasons unknown

there was a four hour autopsy - unusually long. not normal. every organ must have been biopsied and etc.

warrant to search paisely park was obtained by police - why? what reason for searching the home?

questioning all of his 'entourage' - usually in medically related death the emdical examiner says 'died of this cause'. close file.

.

we don't know what happened but whatever it was there are a few more official questions to be answered. that much we do know. not an open and shut file

Actually I started to notice changes in Princes features about three years ago that may indicate he was ill, but out of professional ethics and love for him I never brought the topic up here.

I thought similar , when you see photos say two years ago he looks healthy, but since the piano tour he looked so thin, and if it's true he was awake for the last 145 hours solid there must be more to it. I really hope the stories are not true but I have a feeling he was on medication for his hip problem that ultimately took control of him.

The official statement from the police chief said all of that was normal procedure, and the reason it took so long was simply because Paisley Park is so big.

I believe he said it's law for when any unaccompanied middle-aged person dies, to call in crime scene folk to scan the place.

Isn't it highly unusual the very short length of time between his passing and cremation too?

It is just all too weird seeing this topic here alongside headings about the Apr 14 concert. How fragile life can be...

No. The family was following his wishes.............

Autopsy is done, body was released to the family. Toxicology tests 2-4 weeks for results.

I am afraid to find out what killed Prince.
If he could have avoided death by taking action, I am going to be
ANGRY he didn't. It's not fair but it's true, and it makes grieving worst.

PEOPLE is confirmed that they got their hands on a copy of the autopsy and they are saying the official cause was accidental overdose from PERCCOCET.

That is not the 'toxicology' report which will be ready in 2-4 weeks time.

Autopsy is an examination of the body http://www.medicinenet.co.../page2.htm

I know we, especially WE, want to know now... but I don't think it really matters now.

What matters now is he is gone, we miss him, and we can rely on one another for comfort.

I think it's going to be asphyxiation secondary to narcotics. Combined with exhaustion.
If the reports are true of him staying up for days, maybe when his hips hurt after a show that was his way of knocking two birds out with one stone- pop a bunch of pain pills and be forced to sleep. Workaholics do that, They can't shut it down until something forces them to.
My job every single day is managing airways of people that have too much narcotic on board.... to me it seems completely plausible that he awoke in a stupor and in the elevator passed out, and landed in a way that his airway was closed off.
This just breaks my heart because it was REVERSIBLE had someone been there, and why didn't a member of his team stay there at night given what just happened the week before???? Grrrrr.

one thing is for sure. If even one of his hips was bad there is no way he's getting any sleep without powerful painkillers. I have a medium hip problem from a car accident and it only hurts every now and then while sleeping. The pain will wake you up from a sound sleep. doctor said sooner or later the hip will hurt non-stop and I'll need surgery. So if Prince had bad hips for years I can't imagine the pain he was going through. After a performance the pain must have been unbelievably horrible torture

I agree it's a miserable pain! But for someone weighing barely 100 pounds it doesn't take much, the percocet theory sounds reasonable to me, maybe even combined with a dilaudid or muscle relaxer- the most innocent of combinations could've easily done it at his size. Who knows it may even have been a sleeping pill too.... one of them is known to make you sleep walk and do weird things.
Just saying that I think it was an innocent accidental overdose and he fell back asleep in a weird position. I honestly see it every day- I have to adjust people's necks or hold their airway open or they'll just lie there and suffocate. It's so easy you'd be surprised.

Ok I do not know where to put this: But there are reports of some altered pain killers that were mixed with a much stronger opiate which have killed several people and made others sick. What if some plant that makes some meds messed up?

I agree with many posts here. At the moment my guess is that he was taking a mixture of high dose painkillers and either there was some sort of toxic interaction or he basically took such a high dose he had a fatal reaction. I'm hoping he knew little about it, and it was like falling into a deep sleep, or maybe a blackout which happened rapidly.

I think there are certain aspects of it that may never be revealed, or possibly even with a full report, certain questions will never be answered. I hate the thought that he died alone, and I would imagine his family are hugely distressed that no one was with him. Hoping that the final report will answer at least some questions for us as fans, and will go some way to providing closure.

Let me try to make some clarifications here. First, Percocet is not really that strong when you compare it to OxyContin, fentanyl, etc. Percocet is very similar to Norco. Norco is known as "hillbilly heroin" because abusers crush it then shoot it like heroin. It is very difficult to overdose on Norco or Percocet if one is just taking it by mouth and not taking it with a lot of other medications. The most dangerous component of Percocet is the acetaminophen due to liver toxicity. They already said this is almost certainly not suicide. This means they do not believe he ingested large quantities of it. I do not believe it was an accidental overdose either, nor do I believe he was taking numerous other medications. I think the medical examiner has an idea of what happened and are choosing to wait until all the information is in before releasing a cause of death. They did not say it was "inconclusive" as far as I could tell. Releasing his body that day to family also makes me think they have a good indication of what happened. The toxicology report may indicate a drug-disease interaction. For example, someone in liver failure should not take acetaminophen or someone who has breathing issues should not use fentanyl (though often times they do). I don't think this was the case with Prince. I just cannot see him taking anything that would cloud his ability to work. He wasn't that kind of person. His art and work was of the highest importance.

Thanks for these clarifications. I'm not a medical person so can only make an uneducated guess at what happened. Good point about his high work standards, it does seem unlikely he would take anything that might put his performances at risk.

that is in the link above. that some of what was thought to be percocet or Norco was the much stronger drug Fentanyl.

also i knew a lady that ODed on acetaminophen when she took 10 or so.

and the drug-disease interaction was mentioned a few times as well. His natural skin tone might mask some of the signs of liver failure as well.

Also if he had a flu it could get into his heart.. this might cause pain... which could lead to more pain meds and then to some major system failure.

last they were careful at the press conference, however, i believe they said there as no clear indication of caused of death. So that seems to tell me he did not have pills in him.

I have a feeling that he was not over using pain pills. Even if it was a cause it was not an abuse situation.

I am also intrested in the state of his hips and knees

If those rumors from the National Enquierer are true, about Prince being diagnosed with AIDS (don't forget that they were the first ones who wrote about Charlie Sheen being HIV+), and it was obvious that Prince was losing weight in last months, I can speculate, that he knew what was coming soon, and he already read the first rumours about him, that left him under so much stress, fear, embarrassment, and this is not how he wanted to go from this life. I think if he has 2 choices how to go-OD or AIDS, he would choose through OD. I think he tried to do this before when he was flying home, then he did it again at home. Probably didn't plan to go on the elevator, this part is just coincidence. Just my own suspicions......forgive me if you don't like them.
