She was his girlfriend at the time, so it's not such a strange thought. And both stories could be true: he could have been thinking about his real life relationship and the fictional one at the same time when writing. That's what writers do: they take what they experience and turn it into fiction.

It was listed as a song inspired by her in an interview she gave about her time with Prince. She didn't contradict it. In the same interview she claims Strange Relationship was about her too. Even though it's common knowledge that song was written in 1982 before he even met her.

Of course, the set sold disappointingly because Prince did no serious promo. That's simply not true. The Rev's impro is simply them playing the same thing for 20 minutes while Prince improvises on top.

America gets stale after 15 minutes. Purple rain was never really extended minues P playing a solo in the begining and Baby I'm a Star got repetitive after the 5th "on the one" "gimme 25!" phrase. the lovesexy band and the original NPG were miles ahead of the revolution
