But he didn't inspire them to work on their own thing, he tried to mould them into what he wanted.

Prince a pioneer? He mixed things up in a great way, and he will be remembered for a few great albums and songs. He released about one good song this century - Revelation, which isn't exactly breaking new ground; he no longer has much to say musically.

I agree that Prince was always the driving force, and pushed his band members; and I think a lot of good songs came out of jamming/working with talented musicians. Credit where credit is due, as Prince would say. Not.

(I know that a lot of people are mostly interested in his hair or ass or girlfriends instead of 'who created the groove', guitar parts ad bass liines - but those are the things I'd like to read about in the liner notes on the never forthcoming remasters/Greatest Hits.)
