Prince released the wrong singles from "Lovesexy." The title track and "Anna Stesia" are the best songs on the album, but he didn't release them as singles. "Scarlet Pussy" is stronger than "I Wish U Heaven," but the latter was the A-side. Also, if Lovesexy had the European cover photo for "Diamonds and Pearls," it would have sold better. Controversial?

I agree that their voices in combination with Prince's provided a unique sound, their flat, emotionless voices against his passionate one was an interesting contrast, just like the onstage imagery. White girls with the black guy, took a little edge off of him and made him a little less threatening to the status quo. As far as his improving musicianship and singing, I love seeing him kill an audience (and me too) with a performance. Two come to mind, the RHOF guitar solo and the ONA DVD performance of Gotta Broken Heart Again, with those two performances, he brings as much passion as ever (something he's constantly accused of losing) together with inhumanly perfect playing and singing, those are undeniable performances.

well, that was my point, though. The Revolutiuon is the worst group of musicians, but Prince made the best music with them (or by himself I suppose)

there is a certain magic to band chemistry. You could say The Beatles suck as musicians, but their chemistry elevated the music. That is what separates a supergroup of session guys from The Rolling Stones or The Revolution.

oh sure it is, you got a point. But my point stands, I do think the girls made him less threatening, along with the lingerie and makeup he wore. Prince was a very smart man businesswise, give the devil his due.

Prince hasnt made a really strong album since Gold Experience.

I get rage when Michael Jackson gets all the acclaim and popularity yet all he did was dance and sing when Prince can do that aswell as play every instrument ever, and he dressed better. While i enjoy Jackos music like most people do...he has got jack shit but sales on Prince.

W&L made Prince a better dancer!

Prince’s dancing improved a great deal from 1983 to 1986. He did his best dancing on the Parade tour (and that’s a fact!). Someone will likely point to the SOTT tour as evidence that Prince was still a great dancer after W&L left, but remember in 1987 Prince was still under W&L’s influence. Later he was influenced by hip hop…

And who can deny Lisa’s sophisticated shoulder shrugs and Wendy’s artistic foot tapping? It's not just about technical ability, you know. They really brought something to Prince’s performances that has been missing ever since.

(BTW I also think W&L are the reason why Prince had such great hair in the 80’s)

yeah the revolution is probably his most "rock" band, so it's no surprise they had the most mainstream appeal

My faves are Vanity and Apollonia. Vanity's beauty back then was beyond compare. Sheila may have been more musically talented, and she is gorgeous, but V & A just had that thing.

I think Cat was definitely the best dancer that Prince worked with.

Purple Rain is definitely one of his least interesting albums, the thing about it is I believe he was purposely trying to make that album a solid commercial success. We've all heard everything on there time and time again, it gets boring, and we all know everything there is to know about it basically (Except what exactly "Purple Rain" means). He's talked about it plenty of times, there's nothing intriguing about it. Some of his other albums may not be as great, but there's so much mystery and intrigue in his music.
