What a complete tool. It's not like this is a kid we're talking about either. Can you imagine how much that guitar would go for at auction? You really think he's giving it away to random people? This guy was already looking up the pick online to see how much he could sell it for..

Fuck all u assholes, Prince could have got that guy killed, then he gives him a guitar pick! You all don't realise how dangerous that is, throwing the Hohner into the crowd! Most normal musicians like me, we never get to touch a Hohner, it costs $3000! Prince risked that guys life....fuck u, pancake boy!

why does he need to give it for a few minutes?

Either give it away or dont. He could give away a couple of guitars a year and it wouldnt cost him that much. Or he shouldnt give away at all.

I would be thrilled at the opportunity to hold his guitar for a few minutes, get a good closeup look at it, see how heavy it is and how it feels in my hands, and pose for some pictures with it. Wouldn't you?

It would knock my block off if it came toward me. I am a terrible catcher.brick

At one of the Empire shows in 2006, I was in a group of people that Prince handed his guitar to at a show. It was a group of women, all of whom knew the deal - so there was no pushing or shoving. (It was his blue Strat, in case you were wondering.)

Some total douche behind me practically gave me a concussion trying to get to that guitar - literally punched me in the back of the head.

It was probably the same guy. neutral

I agree with the man. If an artist throws something into the crowd you should be able to keep it.

Just because you know the rules doesn't mean everybody else has to know the rules.

So if a kid ( Which Prince has invited to his concerts) caught the guitar and didn't give it up, and

was beatin down for it by psycho Prince fanatics. That's ok because he should've known the rules. (PLEASE!)

I'm a BIG Prince fan but whats right is right, and whats wrong is wrong. Prince needs to stop being cheap and give up the damn guitar. People have died at concerts from being trampled over.

He's playing with peoples lives. I didn't know you had to follow so many rules just to be entertained

Out of the hundreds of concerts I've been to, not one musician (with all their millions in the bank) have Ever given away their guitars to a fan. Maybe a guitar pick or or drum sticks. How deluded one must be to think because the get to hold a musician's instrument that they get to go home with it.

One or two always fucks it up for the rest of us.

i went to warped tour a few years ago(salt lake city utah) and of the artist did toss the guitar in to the crowd.. the person who got it after the show went to return the guitar and the secuirty told him to take it.. so yes it can happen. and i still think prince shouldnt do it .. safety reasons and well because people think they are going to get his guitar

Prince is far from the first or the only artist to throw a guitar in the audience. Most every other artist knows the routine and follows it accordingly:

You switch guitars on the song you are going to give the guitar away on. A cheap Squier or Ibanez or even a lesser known brand like SX or something can be had for very little $.

You play a few chords on it and maybe a solo, then you unplug it and toss it. You don't toss a $10k Aurswald or something like that into the audience. As the guy said, its CUSTOMARY for the audience memebers to keep what gets thrown to them by performers. The guy is not the odd one - PRINCE IS, but fanbots around here are trying to make it seem the other way around.

Now dude may have been a bit unrealistic for asking for it after the show was over but at the moment, its a reasonable assumption. Only Prince fanbots who believe Prince is always right no matter what would think its outrageous to think that. Idolworship is not a good look.

If he was foolish enough to pay $700+ to see ANYBODY, he's foolish enough to walk away with his tail between his legs. Serves him right. lol

nod A casual fan cannot know the guitar was not to keep for him. And if an artist throws something into the audience he gives it away for good and it is not his anymore. It's the same as if you give somebody a present and then demand it back. If you don't want to give it away then don't do it. And I don't get it what is so great about touching that guitar and why he should be thankful for it. If he is just a casual fan he's probably not too interested in touching it.

It's nice to know that you wrote the book on what is acceptable and standard! GMAFB, you don't know this for fact. Just because he throws it to you don't mean you get to keep it. He didn't give him a present, he threw a guitar into an open audience, not knowing who would catch it.

And if this d*ckhead paid $750 bucks for a ticket, he more than likely is a bit more than a casual fan...so he knew what was up. He just wants to be a d*ck and get his 15mins. If I were Prince, I'd tell him to "kiss my azz" and move on. Prince don't owe him sh*t!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

heres the thing.. when a performer like prince uses only 1 or 2 guitars in concert for a person to assume he is going to get to keep that guitar is a tad bit off.. but that being said prince needs to quit throwing his guitar around to just anyone .. you got your techs toss it to them... if he wants to play this game go and buy a bunch of cheap ass guitars play a song and toss one in to the crowed each nite.. go buy a first act guitar from target i dont care.. but to assume he has a bunch of guitars (hohners) from 80s that he keeps using.. maybe he does i dunno maybe he has 1, 2 or 100.. unless he says i quit and throws it out its going back to him..and im not saying this is right... if i didnt know any better i would be like sweet i just got me a new guitar.. but that is prince i know better.. i dunno about other artist.. now if it was me.. i would let it drop in front of me and says oops.. cant use it now.. ill take it smile sure i wouldnt be able to use it either but i was going to frame it anyways...

as for being able to drop $750 , hey if u got the money good for him dont be jealous.. tho i hope the pic he got was at least used..

This should be no different than getting a game ball.

I can't remember exactly when, but I was at a Yankees game once and a player hit a homerun and a fan caught it. It was a history ball (300 homerun or something like that) and the player DEMANDED the ball back. The fan tried to keep it, but security came and took him out and got the ball back. Something about "property of the venue/team/etc. doesn't belong to you unless specifically given."

The laws are very tricky on stuff like this, but this is Prince's personal property, just because he throws it at you, doesn't mean you get to keep it. Kinda like a hostels, etc... you pay to use sheets, but you can't keep them, just because expect you can.

SERIOUSLY? What could convince him he was going to HAVE his guitar? LoL Eye mean really! He is blessed to merely hold it for some time! Then to top it off, he has his pick? How could that be a dis-advantage? It's messed up he has bruises and all, but his association to this is in the wrong place. Eye sure hope there is no lawsuit filed against Prince, while I don't believe there would be, Eye don't know about his intentions? It's also possible Prince wont throw his guitars out in the audience anymore because of this, sad Eye sure hope this guy does not ruin it for the rest..WELL Welcome 2 America! LOL.

By your logic, Prince should accept unsolicited mail at Paisley Park, too, huh? (which he doesn't)And should he also accept the cassettes and crap fans have tried to give him at soundchecks and such? (which, AGAIN, he doesn't)

In the two above scenarios, Prince seems to understand just how many wackos and delusionals are out there, and he chooses to protect himself legally from any potential lawsuits which might come from him accepting that stuff...and yeah, it would be cool if Prince did read and respond to fan mail, or willingly take somebody's cassette of their recorded musical efforts....but Prince knows that's just not a good idea legally and so he doesn't do it. (Of course, CRAZY FANS STILL INSIST ON MAILING HIM SHIT OR TRYING TO GIVE HIM STUFF ANYWAY, hoping he might write back or ask them to join his band or something. lol Fans right here on this site regularly start threads asking how they can send this or that thing to Prince and where and how to go about it....and other fans - fans who know the score about Prince not accepting stuff - respond, saying to "go ahead, do it, why not try, etc etc". But that's another topic. I just wanted to make the point that even "fans who know" how he does things don't "follow his rules")

Prince tossing that guitar out into the audience comes with such an array of potential issues I'm surprised he still does it, not to mention the possiblity that such a special item to him might get damaged.

And you've got to be joking about "entire world" being aware of how Prince does things. Sorry, the entire world doesn't live and breathe Prince like some do, and don't know that this guitar-tossing is only part of his act and not a you-get-to-keep-it kind of deal. You get some casual fan caught up in the excitement and thrill of the moment of catching his guitar, and it's no wonder they bitch and moan when it's immediately taken away from them.

Lastly, as for this latest guy and him having to be more than a casual fan based on what he paid for the concert, I don't know his story as to either his fan level or anything else, but there ARE instances of people receiving free tickets to concerts through various avenues....perhaps this guy is just a very lucky casual fan who got a free or discounted ticket?

What rules? Where was it written or stated...at anytime...that if Prince throws a guitar at you...

You are to:

1. Catch it...to prevent it from hitting you or hitting the ground.

2. Give it back.

If you look at the video, that's posted on the news links for this story...Prince clearly just tosses it out in the audience, then turns around and walks away!

If it's just all part of the act, why didn't he stand there and say, "Ok, that was fun, now give it back"?

You are right there! But is it right that the fan get mad when they know the rules? OR what if they don't know the rules, are they still entitled to get mad and expect Prince to change the way he operates for them? (LIke if a fan tried to give him a demo and he refused it to their face, or took it and threw it away)

Prince tossing that guitar out into the audience comes with such an array of potential issues I'm surprised he still does it, not to mention the possiblity that such a special item to him might get damaged.

There are some issues, but I think its cool. I think he knows most fans think its cool which is why he does it. I hope he doesn't stop because of this moron.

And you've got to be joking about "entire world" being aware of how Prince does things. You are right, I only noticed that it was pointed out that he was in $750 seats. If he paid that much for a ticket, then I'd assume/hope he was more than a casual fan. I don't see paying that much for anyone, even Prince and I'm a hardcore fan.

I am not sure it is typically American to be greedy actually..we see it everywhere in the world do we...the only thing is that in the US people are motivated to act on their greed by this fine law-suit-kind-of-thingy..

That's whats different i guess...

Your point is valid that Prince didn't say "fun, now give it back." On the flip side he also didn't say "you can have it. no never mind." The assumed (which I find stupid, but ok, I will admit, maybe he was just that naive), but once he found out this was what Prince ALWAYS does, then why cause a fuss about it? He didn't pay for the guitar, Prince never promised to give away a guitar, and he never even said anything to this guy. That guy willingly went after that guitar, he's just mad he got bruises for nothing. Oh well!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
