Regardless of what anybody feels about this incident, the title of this news item on the front page really scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Not that prince.org is supposed to be a serious news agency, but I don't think I've seen similar bullshit titles appear on any other music-related sites.

after reading the whole thread and all the attached articles I agree with the stagehand... "it's just a show"...

Sure, a throwaway article of clothing i.e. a scarf or a hat, is commonly kept by the person catching it.

but no performer is ever going to give away HIS custom guitar let alone a $795 version of it...

For that guy to think that it's "his" guitar is the height of arrogance and I think he's just bitter that he squandered his chance to take a cool picture like that other dude up in this thread...

I think it's cool and exciting how Prince tosses his guitar out into the audience, but he really should stop doing it. He needs to start considering the lowest common denominator in situations like this and how there are a great many people who attend his shows who are either unaware of how this works (meaning, nobody gets to keep the guitar) and wind up disappointed, or who are just whiny babies who feel they 'deserve' to keep it merely because they caught it.

Of course, maybe Prince gets off on playing this little game. biggrin Maybe he likes it when he dangles that piece of candy in front of the baby, then snatches it back and the baby gets upset. lol

They offered him tickets to Prince's last show and he turned them down, so that he had the opportunity to try and sue him.

Several people on this thread said that they should have at least offered him tickets to the next show. Now that we learn that they did, suddenly that's a problem too.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

So yes, maybe Prince should stop throwing his guitar, so that there's no chance of anyone getting hurt or suffering the mental trauma associated with thinking you'd been given a gift of a guitar for no reason for a few minutes.

Maybe he shouldn't get anyone up on stage to dance in case someone slips and falls, or gets confused and thinks that he's actually inviting them to join his band, causing mental anguish when they're asked to leave again.

Maybe while he's at it, he should turn the volume right down so as not to play havoc with anyone's delicate ears.

etc...

Actually that was me using the 9/10 of the law to argue that Prince would prevail in any court case that this man might try to pusie in court. If the man wanted tosue fir the return if theguitar claiming ownership thought that the fact the man returned it would prove that the man knew and acknowleged that the guitar belongs to prince. Genesia corrected me on use of that but it wasnot Hatruna it was moi.

Right! Actual at the last prince covert that I went to a woman that prince invited on stage did fall as soon as she got up there. He was very polite and inquired about her well being. Assisted her to getting up (not that he could do much since she was a pretty large woman but she didn't make a big stink about it. Some people just has this since of entitlement that is real is really tiring.

As someone who has watched every episode of Sanford And Son, that is "Blind Mello Jelly." I almost turned into Bart Van Halen, and said..."For Fuck's Sake, it is Blind Mello Jelly." But I am not as smart as Bart, so I won't do it. The show was a strange tribute to Blind Lemon Jefferson, a fairly unknown Blues Artist from the 1920's.

Off topic, but I find it kind of ironic that Bart Van Halen claims to be the know it all of everything, but in his signature, he always says the NPGMC has nothing to do with him. I kind of parody Bart's one mistake(his only mistake) in my signature. Damb. Still can't believe that Bart thinks the NPGMC is still around. I am actually kind of upset that the latest issue of Controversy Mag is a bit late, though.

According to the commentary I was responding to:

After he was treated for his injuries, he was also offered tix to the following night's show (apparently for another artist performing the next night at that venue, since as we know, Prince did not have a scheduled show the following night at that same venue), only if he signed a release form promising not to sue, but Litchfield didn't sign one.

You are the resistance.

Because Bart Van Halen is not named that way on the org. And not so in real life.

The article 2elijah shared was published just after 5pm on Thursday afternoon, before the last show had happened. Ergo, the incident happened on Wednesday night.

Which is what makes almost every thread like this basically pointless.

We can all share opinions, throw our 2c in, take swipes at each other, etc... but at the end of the day it's all just different perspectives drawn mostly from assumptions and heresay, with just enough factual information to keep it interesting.

Another article on this:

Hatrina, so according to this report above, the guy "promptly" gave the guitar back, when he was told by the stagehand, that it was "just a show" when asked by the stagehand to return the guitar. Yet at the end of the show, he still had the nerve to ask for the guitar, as though it belonged to him, which it never did.lol

After he was treated for his injuries, he was also offered tix to the following night's show (apparently for another artist performing the next night at that venue, since as we know, Prince did not have a scheduled show the following night at that same venue), only if he signed a release form promising not to sue, but Litchfield didn't sign one. According to the report, Litchfield does not have any "immediate" plans to sue. Doesn't mean he won't later down the road though.

I have to laugh at that last statement in the article where Litchfield states "I want my guitar back." falloff I guess if Prince jumped off the stage and landed in this guy's arms, Litchfield would have thought he owned Prince too.lol

We'll just have to wait and see what happens if he does. shrug

[Edited 2/26/11 16:33pm]

i think the offer was because the man got hurt somehow and Prince and management dont want to be held responsible even though a case can be made but his issue is with the getting the guitar back. Not about him getting hurt! lol

[Edited 2/26/11 17:22pm]

Yes, I agree, and it's strange that he didn't seem that concerned about getting injured when he grabbed the guitar and held on to it for dear life even when he fell, but instead more interested in claiming a guitar that never belonged to him.lol

This incident happened on the 3rd show's night though, so the tix they offered him stated for "the next night," according to the article. Seems the writer made a mistake in his report, since there was no Prince concert the next night, on Friday, Feb., 25th, and there was a basket ball game scheduled at the arena the next night. Could be the writer meant to state Litchfield was offered a ticket to a future Prince concert.shrug

paid for what? over the condut of the other concert goers? That would largely fall to the venue. ANd he has NO case to make that he is owed a guitar. Even if he can make the case that Prince gave it to him, he admits he gave it to the tech. So at best Prince gave it away to him and then he gave it away to the tech. And he accepted the pic, which, some might call payment for the guitar and his injuries.

the man has no case and he will lose. I doubt ANY lawyer would take the case.

The guy will have to show that: by tossing him the guitar that there was intent to either abandon the guitar or transfer ownership. Handing someone something is not assumed to be a gift.

to his injuries: unless he sought medical attention he has no case there either.

Amazing that someone could not understand this. If I hand the cashier a 20 for my $6 purchase, can the cashier logically infer that the rest of the twenty is a gift to them?
