never meaningless to talk about the most beautiful eyes of the smallest slice of cumpkin pie out there. yummy! and no im not vexed and no ur not right. falloff

Umm, yes I am. lol

But this is not an argument. If U look on the cover of Musician Magazine (September, 1983) for example, which is one of the closest and best lit photos of Prince's face (showing his eyes upfront, without special angles or odd/dark lighting), U will see his eyes are hazel/light brown. hmph!

But as a truce, I'll just say we see colors differently. shrug But unlike your sentiment above, this doesn't mean much to me at all. I mean really, what is knowing the exact color of his eyes doing for me in life? Absolutely nothing. lol Therefore, meaningless to me. smile

So lemme get this straight!! The color of his eyes are meaningless to you but the color of his girlfriends are EVERYTHING? WWWOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!

I really don't care who he sleeps with but as I said on another forum he could learn alot from the attention Susan Boyle is getting vs Bria in the press. He has got to learn to say no to the photogenic ones and go with the Shelby J's and the truely talented. Dark or not. the list of not so pretty female singers that had success is a long on Anita Baker was not a beauty and neither was Barbra Streisand.

True. All modern music comes from the dark-skinned decndants of slaves in their churches..

Fast beats of House, Electonica, (Black Church Rivival Music), Screaming Rockers (James Brown and Hendrix), Thump Bass (Larry G and Bootsy Collins). Country Music = The Blues..

The best singers are dark.. Singers with power..

Videos and MTV have brought in the need for "photogenic women"..

Dark skin women absorb light, and don't reflect it (Photo-flash). They tend to have less or no "Euro-centric features".

The majority likes to see a bit of themselve in everything. It makes the pop world more accepting.

That's why some light-skinned entertainers have been seen as trail-blazers because they were allowed to do more earlier than most blacks in the U.S.

Still, in the Kingdom to come, "The Last Shall Be First".

YHWH is Elohim and Yahoshua is King

dearheart if yor're going 2 quote scripture pls. get it right. Matt19:30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

I never understood the criticism that Prince gets for being color struck. I've been a fan of his since I was a child, and for the most part, he's always seemed to be with (or date) women of color.

Also, I'm a bit confused as to what is "light skinned" anyway. To me it's relative.

Not that it makes any difference what color these women are, but personally, I never considered Vanity, Manuela or Chelsea Rogers etc. to be light skinned.

They aren't dark, but to me light skinned is more like Mayte, Jill Jones, Mariah Carey and Prince when he isn't tanned.

Anyway, I say let him date/marry who he wants. Good people and good looks come in all hues.

Oh, and in case it matters, I'm black.

Even if you don't consider Vanity,Chelsea or Mani to be light-skinned,they still have to have that "good" hair,so its still that same kind of mentality.

i would not consider Mani light skinned...she more of a medium brown...definitely not light.

The heck are U talking about? Wrong again. Who told U I cared about his "girlfriends" or what they look like? That's seemingly your primary concern/priority, not mine. lol Who Prince is intimate with is more than just insignificant, but seriously means absolutely NOTHING (to me anyway). I'm certainly not looking for him or attempting to get in his house, LOL....I'm no longer a little child dreaming about his looks or knowing him personally. It's strictly just about his music/art for me at this point. If I ever post about his "women," it's regarding their MUSICAL relationships with him, not romance. rolleyes Yes, I've posted about Valente's lacking vocal talent and how ridiculous Prince looks endorsing the woman over other adept singers, but that has nothing to do with her color or the assumption that she's his "girlfriend." talk to the hand

But, if U're referring to me posting about how Prince always overshadows or negates Black artists with a random ambiguously-raced woman, well my input in those discussions are NOT about their color, but ethnicity and his preference for releasing albums for women with non-Black features. And yet, I would classify THAT as considerably nugatory too, 'cause no one's posts here has any affect on his thinking apparently, especially considering his latest protege.

So to again correct your assumption above: Unless I'm reading insightful posts by sapient people, this website is pure trivial amusement for me, and nothing here means "everything" to me. bored

Well, my post was sarcasm and you took it serious so wutevs. Since we're back on topic, you do care about what his girlfriends er uh proteges look like. You just admitted it by your comments about ambiguously-raced women which is about their color and their features and their hair etc. You said non-black features. what the hell is non-black features? What exactly is your idea of black? What is your idea of white for that matter? Is Prince non-black? If he is then why is he obligated to showcase women who fit your or anybody's idea of black. Why are we so hung up on what these chicks look like? I guess that's my issue with this thread is that it seems like P's chicks will never be black enuf and I don't know what black enuf is.

Im not defending this Bria heffer either btw, not any day of the week but as far as what she looks like, i think if she looked like Tamar and had the same past and attitude I would still dog her cuz she would be just another mediocre piece of purple ass tryna play singer. And when P was banging Tamar people still had a problem with her cuz of how she looked. Its like the dude can't win in the protege/girlfriend department. Yes its the same thing.

This thread is amusing but also sad cuz some people will never get over color or looks and they seem to think Prince is supposed to be responsible for how we view beauty. As for the music. Hardly any of these chicks P kicks it with are talented save for Tamar and Shelby. Hardly any of P's chicks have long term successful careers save for Sheila and that's cuz she was a talent and working musician in her own right b4 P met her.

Bottom line is, why should we care what these Hos look like when we know they are not going to last, have the talent of hand puppet and are going to get passed on eventually.

P.s. I prefer the word trifling to nugatory. It just sounds more black. falloff that was a joke btw. now lets be friends again shall we batting eyes

I have noticed that whenever a member complains about Prince promoting and backing a female singer based primarily on her looks and his physical attraction to her and not her musical ability other members read that as a complaint about Prince dating light skin women. I am white I could care less the color of the women he dates. I am way too heavy to even think that prince would look at me twice so I have no fantasies of him knocking on my door. It's the fact that he gives the opportunity to record a c.d. to women based more on their looks and his interest in them sexually then their talent. I think it is not because he wants the public to have a chance to hear Bria or Carmen Electra for that matter. I think he gets them a C.D. the way other wealthy men buy women luxery items. Kind of like when Pia Zadora's husband bought her an acting career. It's a form of flattery. He is doing it totally to impress her: he ain't doing it to impress us.

I agree,, and with that said...why do we care when these chicks just gonna come and go. Why dont we acknowledge the other chicks that come in and out of Ps life as proteges **cough** fun toys. I mean, Kim Basinger and Tamar and Kim Upsher and Susan Moonsie looked nothing like Bria or Mani or Mayte so why get caught up in the whole skin color thing. They are all attractive in their own light and that's what dude is feeling....among other things wink And what a going away present...a C.D. that will never hear or see the light of popular radio.

P cheated on Mani with Tamar. Mani a cold fish that doesn't share in Prince's musical passion and is not exactly a sheet shaker. Tamar a warm dove that took him on a flight of fancy. It was all business but then turned to pleasure then back to business. Prince landed back on earth...the shit hit the fan. And thus he divorced a second time...er uh...a first time since he had his marriage to Mayte anulled. Its sad cuz I think P would have tried to work it out. Sometimes you can't, sometimes its just beatdeadhorse

that's the hard hitting rumor. it all highly likely and plausible IMO.

Thanks, one part of the rumor you did not answer; You said that Mani went and cheated on him. Who did she cheat on him with? Did she file for divorce to be with this other guy? Some of the songs on 3121 made it sound like he was crazy about her but that somehow he couldn't quite get her to let go and take risks. I liked the fact that she didn't even play the tamborine. He didn't even try to pass her off as gifted. This forum is like my E! entertainment.

What I meant was Mani was the "other" woman when P was married to Mayte, therefore putting herself out there to receive karma and being cheated on or rather being betrayed. that whole what goes around comes around thing. She took a man from his wife and when she became the next wife someone took the man from her. P's relations don't last because he is unfaithful and dishonest and so shall women be with and have been with him. heart bheart

Well then, if people had predictable responses, why did you bother to bring it up? You coulda just been satisfied with being right, but you made the mistake of trying to beat others over the head about it. Seems like you just wanted to beatdeadhorse, and all that does is make the meat of your argument break down.

I hate to talk about orgers behind their back smile but I think it was BlaqueKnight who said in some thread awhile ago that he definitely was colorstruck and was always after "butterscotch curlytops" or something, nobody really had a problem with his comment,though..
Anyway,I'm not arguing with you for the rest of my life about this,I said my peace,& did nothing wrong,ok?
I know people who have known Prince and think similar thoughts about this subject.
For the record,I'm not against people dating outside of their race,my boyfriend is white.
He can date whoever he wants,my issue is don't put the butterscotch, good hair or whatever you wanna call it,types all over your website calling them supercute and then when a chocolate woman is around, you have nothing to say about her beauty or sex appeal.
I just hope he's not one of those brothas who has sex with black women and then hides them like he's ashamed and then only takes other types of women out in public with pride, its that kind of mentality that I'm talking about,ok?
I know I sounded all angry, but I'm moody and I like to rant.

I just want to add one last comment before this thread is over. Why is it that Prince is always singled out by blacks for being colorstruck and not other famous black men? There are a lot of famous black men that date or marry lightskinned women. For instance, there is Babyface and what about Ginuwine (Sole is light with long hair) but whenever Prince is mentioned on some black site its he's colorstruck. There are also people who go as far to say that he doesn't like black peole, period. I'm tired of the double standard and ignorance. BTW, alot of these folks like to use Rick James's book as a basis for their argument. PLEASE!
Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

The Nelsons are a very light skinned family. Prince is lighter than my Italian mother. In order to get that light there has to be alot of white genes in their gene pool. In the process of being mixed with europeans they also had to have been heavily exposed to european culture and aestetics. Mixed people should be allowed to BE mixed people. Physically they don't look caucasian so they are more acceptable in the black community. In order to fit and feel welcomed they squeaze themselves into the black community but there is always a part of them that is hanging out. I have an issue with Obama being called the first black president. He's the first mixed president, his white relatives had the greatest influence on his life. He is not even a descendant of what I consider African American culture. As a white woman I consider African American culture to be the culture of the descendants of slaves. To me it is as different from the culture of rescent imigrants from Africa as Polish culture is different from Spanish.
Why do we always encourage mixed people to stay within the culture lines when it's obvious their ancestors did not? Prince deserves credit for dating who he pleases depite the constant critism. Bravo. He is a stronger soul than I am. I am white and prefer black men. Despite this reality I've often chose not to date them simply because I didn't want to deal with societies shit.

PLEASE!

No disrespect to you, but as a Black, American Female, some of the stuff you state in your post surprises me, because it is getting sickening when suddenly it is okay to try and water down what happened to Black folk in America's history when you mention their "exposure to European culture?" WTF? Did some of you guys miss history lessons? That European exposure was during America's history of slavery when white slave owners were raping the Black African women who were enslaved. Many of those women had the slave owners children, who were later sold off to other slave owners or inherited by the slave owners white children. Some of the slave women killed their babies because they didn't want them--either because they despised their owner or they knew their children would be sold off to slavery, and would have rather seen them dead than see them sold into slavery.

The rest of those babies that survived and those babies from Black or African-American women/males, who were enslaved and survived, lives within many Black Americans' bloodlines today. I’m sorry if what I mentioned was harsh, but that was the harsh realities of 400 years ago, then some people, time and time again, wonder and are confused as to why so many people from my race vary in complexion from “very light to extremely dark? One thing I ask respectively, is if you are going to talk about the history of Black people in America, at least get it right and not try to water it down as though you’re giving “preference" to or trying to put some Black Americans on a higher level of acceptance of the human being tree, based on the “lightness” of their complexion. Because that is how “Apartheid” started. Like I said, no disrespect to you at all, as I know you were only trying to explain your take on Black Americans and how you view them, and my comment is not meant to offend you or single you out at all, but it was basically to clarify what I read in your post.

I do wish though, that people would move past this topic, and stop trying to figure out who P wishes to date as though they know him. Whether I or anyone agrees or wonder about his choices and have our own opinion on it, in all honesty, it his personal right to date who he chooses and not his fans' decision to make.

I am glad that you commented. I know that you are right. Slaves did have slavemasters children against their will and to their utter disgust. Those children were NOT raised by their white fathers but instead by their black mothers and they themselves would be enslaved. O.K. that being said there is also a new mixed people. Their parents CONSENTED to having sex with one another. Do you not agree that some blacks consent to having sex with whites? Sometimes these children are not raised by their black parent as they would have been in the time of slavery but by their white parent. They DO often begin to hide this fact to fit in, It is not fair to them. I don't think in any way they are better, I think that they should be allowed to own their own truth as it played out in current times. I am NOT giving anyones story preference. I am stating that everyone has a RIGHT to their own story and their own truth. Nobody should be expected to push their relatives under a bus because they were white. Some people have sadistic rapists for ancestors but that is not every light skinned persons story.

Can we also acknowledge that light skinned blacks don't necessarily get their complexion from white ancestry? Some light skinned blacks get their color from Asian ancestry or Native American ancestry. White people aren't the only light folks on the planet you guys.

Also if two light skinned people or mixed people get together then their children will be light and if those children marry other light skinned individuals the color is perpetuated generation after generation. Light skinned people, not all but most, are more accepted by the black community cuz face it, the white community don't want them. I think mixed folks (regardless of what they are mixed with) make the choice to be a part of whatever community accepts them. Often times its the community with which they identify asthetically.

As for African American culture...its not simply a result of slavery or white influence. African and West Indian Culture is in there too and Latin culture. I admire black culture because no matter what it assimilates, it remains black and expands upon itself. It also goes on to influence pop culture. I giggle when I hear white politicians or major news anchormen throw in some urban/black slang or when white kids drive down the street blaring their black hip hop or when white girls spray on brown paint to make their skin darker.

Back to Prince...I will never believe he is color struck but I will always believe that he prefers petite, long haired high cheek boned dark eyed women with either big asses or big tits. You can be any color or heritage and fit into that mold. lol

No one is saying interracial relationships, "today" don't consent to relationships, of course they do, but it still doesn't discount America's history and the generations of various complected Black Americans that came out of it, nor does it discount, the ever so present racist attitudes that still exist in America today, when it comes to race issues and identity.

Also, in replying to your comment, on the contrary, no one should be forced to put their relatives under the bus, because they are of a darker hue as well, when they have two parents from two different race groups.

In reference to our current President, he specifically stated he is African-American because he identifies with us (Black Americans) more racially/culturally because of the racism and identity issues he experienced as a kid, regardless of the fact that his mother is white. No one is trying to take that away from him, but many Blacks in America can damn well understand where he is coming from when he made that statement, doesn't matter what you and I "think" he should be, .it is what makes him comfortable, and people need to respect that.

He is probably more Black African, race/ethnic wise than the average lighter or darker-skinned African/Black American in America, because his father is in fact Black African from the Kenya group, whereas you would find a "series" of more than one race in your average Black American who does not have a "direct" Black 100% African parent(s), but may have 2 or 3 grandparents back who were actually from an indigenous Black ethnic group. Also, it is possible they may have European and Native American ancestors because of America's history of slavery. Let's also not forget the Black Africans that were also taken to all the islands of the Caribbean including the latin Caribbean, i.e., Puerto Rico, where some of the Black descendants of the Africans and Natives (Indians) share the same relative as the hispanic groups of Puerto Rico.

I recently learned that American Indians from the Apache, Commanche, Cherokee groups and other, various Native Americans during the late 1880s - 1890s, were also shipped to the Caribbean islands to work as slaves. You can talk about the mixed couples of "present" day if you wish, but that Black individual that decides to get into a relationship outside of their race, still does not discount the fact that they have Black African ancestors who were slaves. Is that important to their children regardless of their complexion from that interracial relationship? It is when the kid wants to learn about that Black parent's history, possibly great-grandparents, even if you or anyone else may not think it is of any value to you.

In reading some of these posts on this site, for the past two years regarding the Black American race, it is surprising how much watering down many do to feel more comfort at accepting particular individuals due to the "lightness" of their skin. Suddenly it's okay to take that Blackness away, when less than 50 years ago, whether one was a mixed Black or had two black parents, but still was lighter complected, that "lightness" still didn't get away with getting lynched or giving them a "pass" through the front door or a front seat on the bus, such is the case of "Rosa Parks" who was very much "light-complected" and known to have Native American ancestry, yet she was told to go to the back.

Everyone who has lighter skin does not necessarily mean they have "European" ancestry. That is one of the biggest misconceptions. You really need to research the history of the Sans Bushmen who are Black Africans but many are not of a darker hue, as the assumption one would have of every Black African from Africa. The Sans Bushmen are the oldest living human beings to date, according to anthropologists, genetic scientists and archaeologists, and according to these scholars/educators/scientists, etc., it is said that they hold the facial features of the entire human race. Do the research.

It's the same thing as when people swear up and down that those with darker skin do not have "European" history at first glance, which is a lie. That is the biggest myth. You'd be very shocked and surprised that someone as dark as Chris Rock and Don Cheadle is walking around with European blood in them, but you immediately think right away that anyone "light-complected" have European ancestors, when in fact, many Black Americans also have Native blood in them, so does not always mean that someone lighter complected is of European descent.

People need to remember that thousands of years ago, Black African indigenous tribes moved around all over the world out of Africa, and as they moved from place to place their, complexions, hair textures, physical build, etc., changed due to geographic and climate conditions, and their appearances obviously changed. So basically, when you break the sh*t down, we're all a little "African", just depends if you're from the groups that remained in Africa and those that travelled outside of it. Well, that's all I got for you. You don't have to believe it, but do the research at least. It's been an interesting conversation, and I'm glad we kept "respect" as part of it, but it would take too long for me to continue on this topic, and I've already taken up enough time on this, so that's just about it on this topic. Carry on.

I agree with you Desiree, on the first part of your post. My family is from the West Indian culture. Very mixed ethnic groups come out of this culture. West Indian is the culture, not the people themselves, but people tend to call them that. In my opinion, they more or less are better off called "Caribbeans" because there are many races in that group that make up the people in the Caribbean, there's everything from mixtures of African, Native American, Hispanic and yes European that basically makes up that whole group.

You have the Trinidadians, who have a lot of asian ancestry in that particular group as well. Then there's the Jamaicans, U.S. Virgin Islanders, British Virgin Islanders (<--my family from both of those Virgin Islands), Bahamians, Barbadians, etc., but the majority of them share the same African and Native American ancestors and culture. I would lie if I said there was no European involvement, which again historically is connected to the slavery in the Caribbean. So yes, the "Black race and all it's subgroups" is vast.
