Part of me thinks that if it was a group/collective of hardcore fans AND they had a cease and desist type of thing handed to them then it would be all over this site (meaning the actual individuals would be moaning).

It's not like most people on the receiving end of what is perceived as heavy handed tactics from Prince's legal team, ever shy away from ripping him to pieces about it.

Another part of me (hee-hee! MJ) thinks that the ONENPG site WAS using the official Prince symbol (copyright/reg trademark etc) in its graphics and that's tantamount to waving a red rag to a bull if unofficial. So its possible Prince shut this down with the quickness.

Who knows? Smoke and mirrors...

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I'm sure they would be here moaning too, or at the very least tweeting about it.

If that was the case it would have been a piece of piss to upload a new graphic without the symbol.

I'm half tempted to make a similar site myself and see what happens. onemorenpg.org? If I wasn't too busy I'd definitely do it but as it happens I haven't really got time to be reading and posting here in the first place! lol

This was the cryptic message Hannah Ford made on FB before the onenpg.org site went dark;

"People seem to think...that you'll be happier once you reach the top...you'll have it all...but I'm livin for right now cuz what if tomorrow never comes...I'm not waiting...I'm not waiting for the confetti to fall..."

What's all that about?

dartluv5 said: LOL Live Out Loud?

Sounds like it could be indeed part of the LOL new song... Dr Funkenberry mentioned tonight on the spreecast that the song should be available as soon as the promo clip is finished... biggrin

yeahthat the song should be dropping prior to next Wednesday's spreecast.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

It's also possible that it started off as an officially sanctioned (or tolerated) venture and then something changed to make the deal fall apart.

This is my best guess as well.

I suspect there was a mix of approval and autonomy for whoever was behind it, allowing them to run with the project, but then when it splintered the fan community the way it did and created a lot of suspicious people, etc... the aforementioned approval was yanked away, leaving them realisitically with only one choice; ie. Fade to black, immediately, in the style of all good (and not so good) Prince sites.

I hope it's reborn as a new idea along the same lines, perhaps with a more coordinated execution. They'll learn lots from this and will hopefully be able to try again in the near future.

Great concept, just lacking a little foresight, mainly with respect to how people were likely to react to a website promising lots, explaining almost nothing and simply asking for email addresses.

A simple variation might have been to get the Doc behind it (properly) before it launched, get him to endorse it and then offer a digital download in return for the email address, complete with auto-responder, which works as a carrot to entice people to sign up and also as proof, both of access to the goods and a reliable setup and delivery system.

It´s called viral marketing. And a virus can get picked up and spread fast.

Back to Black sometimes is wise.

I dig the idea of spreading the positive virus, a few people have managed that.

What made their work a succes or failure?

Ghandi was a succes

Bhagwan a failure, as far as I´m concerned.

Amma is a succes IMO

Christian and Islamic priests a failure IMO

Dalai Lama partial succes

I belief that only genuine motivated actions work.

Of course backed by very good organisers.

As soon as people want something back or demand how they have to behave in order to be good, it´s not genuine anymore. Than it´s forcing one´s will on somebody else.

Yes, usually the Doc gives some hints in advance about something big coming. This one seemed to take him by surprise, although it was similar to what he described in the first Spreecast. Donna Grantis apparently had the same reaction. Perhaps the person involved is someone who has had a hand in other recent purple projects but went freelancing on this one. Just speculation of course.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Thats what I am talkng about. Nobody is fool enought to think he will open all of his vault...ever..or even half.

But that measly $15,400 isnt shit to him in the grand shceme of things. Not enough to do it.

What if released 100 tracks from the vault at $0.77 each and 20,000 of us bought every one? That would make, what a million and a half? That's pretty good!

It would be funny, he'd get us to drop $77, again, but this time, we'd be happy about it, so, that would be cool.

Just a thought...

cool

I WONT pay for anything online Prince-related!! Once bitten twice shy!! Particularly after his last online fiascos, going back at least 10 years!! I am so glad that I didnt part with $77 for the Lotusfuckup site!!

I havent even paid 88c for the new songs on the 3rdEyeGirl site!! I listened to them for FREE on Facebook, so why would I PAY for them ???

At least get your justification straight.

If you don't think the music is good, then you don't even need to get it off Facebook (of course, maybe you don't - but PurpleSpirit does).

If you want to listen to it, you can surely part with 88c - it's cheaper than iTunes and the payment happens through the Paypal payment gateway so it actually has nothing to do with Prince and there's no risk. Your precious 88c is safe.

This little sheep is delighted to finally be able to pay for Prince's music and I am hoping that eventually he'll put back up all of the albums that were available online only during the NPGMC days (ideally in better quality or physical format). I confess I've since acquired them by other means, but I will be first in line to purchase them if they re-appear.

In the meantime, I'll happily pay for anything else; Firstly, because I love Prince's music and I support him as an artist; and secondly, because, one way or the other, I've heard so much of his music for free over the years that there's no doubt in my mind that I owe him more than he owes me.

As for the 6%, that came out of a recent survey that I did of nearly 600 Prince fans - you can check out the rest of the results by clicking on the link in my signature.

past experience? how does his doing things the wrong way before mean he can't be doing something better now.

In the case of Lotusflow3r you had to spend $77 without knowing what you'd get for your money. This time around it costs $88 cents for a song or $1.77 for a video. You get what you pay for, the prices are competitive with other outlets.

People want new material and vault content including unlreasesd albums, concerts, videos, movies. Prince isn't going to just give this stuff away. If he's doing things reasonably right, isn't the right thing to do to support it by actually paying for the music? If you bought everything he's commercially released in the past 3+ years it's only cost about $10.

Persoanally I'd rather see a steady stream of releases of music, videos, concerts, etc, that meant spending 10x that each year. And that's simply not going to happen if people keep stealing his work instead of paying the small price he charges for it.

Honestly, at these prices who cares? Can't even by a can of Pepsi for 56p. It's throwaway money. If he was asking for up front cash again I would understand.
