When the official plan is to have a spontaneous fan movement, it is easy to confuse people by starting an actual spontaneous fan movement.

Interesting. I'm glad I didn't sign up for it either, because their message came off more like a petition-type message, to get Prince fans to demand that Prince release music, from his vault. If Prince wanted to release music from his vault, it seems unlikely he would arrange for a bunch of fans to create a petition-type message to do so. I sssume that he would have more or less make a public statement or send out a press release about it. That's why I was skeptic about the message on that site. Then again it's hard to tell what's really going on with all the mysterious stuff that's been happening lately. shrug

I can't imagine that "open the vault" means release everything at once. It would probably take years just to digitize all the tapes. He would start with one thing at a time. If they collect 20,000 email addresses and we each agree to pay 77 cents for a high quality lossless file of "Purple Music" (or whatever people want), he's made himself a nice $15,400 just for that.

It would take minutes. Just press up some cds. Maybe take some time with the highest quality material, but for 70% or more of the vault, just do a quick transfer. SOTT and the Black Album sound like total shit. As long as the Cheapest Possible Scrub you know Prince hires has any clue how to have the sound levels at a normal(not too quiet, not too loud and distorted), then this can be quickly done.

What would take time would be Prince actually getting involved worrying about how this track maybe is too dirty, or that track has the need for a different bassline. As long as that can be avoided, this is not the impossible job so many seem to believe that it is.

If Prince hired Discmakers for example, they could press up tons of cds right there. Prince would never hire them. He would waste too much time finding the cheapest possible labor. Cheap Price over quality could kill this project before it starts.

See this is why I'm not paying attention to anything unless its officially put out there. Meaning, when tickets for a show are officially onsale, when a download for a song is officially available. Other than that I'm not paying attention to anything about who third eye girl is or 2013 is gonna big year or about the vault blah blah blah. When the info drops, wake me up. lol

You don't have to be to understand that the stuff is already recorded. Making everything just right for the Dream Factory outtakes, and the most awesome stuff should take some time. Most of the stuff? Just press the damn cds. Pearl Jam got out a ton of live cds by simply pressing the discs.

The Miles Davis Complete Albums Collection had 71 cds, and much of the stuff had never been on cd, and most had been remastered for the first time. If they can do 71 cds of Ancient Miles recordings, They can do 71 cds of Vault Material. It won't take 15 years, as long as Prince is not obsessive compulsive about it too much.

But that measly $15,400 isnt shit to him in the grand shceme of things. Not enough to do it.

What if released 100 tracks from the vault at $0.77 each and 20,000 of us bought every one? That would make, what a million and a half? That's pretty good!

It would be funny, he'd get us to drop $77, again, but this time, we'd be happy about it, so, that would be cool.

The most important thing is reestablishing trust between him and the fan community. The 3rdeyegirl website is an important step in that direction because it works (at least for most people).

If it turns out that onenpg.org was a prank or someone's attempt to con the fan community, that will be very unfortunate. The concept had a lot of potential.

He would probably only release what is out there already (Because of the uploading to sites). If he chooses to release some vault stuff, I'm okay with that.

And I believe that Prince is aware of the ONENPG.org and smoke screen with the lawyer bit.

Prince is playing with all of us.

He may just want to get email count of people who would be interested in purchasing vault material.

This is my best guess as well.

I suspect there was a mix of approval and autonomy for whoever was behind it, allowing them to run with the project, but then when it splintered the fan community the way it did and created a lot of suspicious people, etc... the aforementioned approval was yanked away, leaving them realisitically with only one choice; ie. Fade to black, immediately, in the style of all good (and not so good) Prince sites.

I hope it's reborn as a new idea along the same lines, perhaps with a more coordinated execution. They'll learn lots from this and will hopefully be able to try again in the near future.

Great concept, just lacking a little foresight, mainly with respect to how people were likely to react to a website promising lots, explaining almost nothing and simply asking for email addresses.

A simple variation might have been to get the Doc behind it (properly) before it launched, get him to endorse it and then offer a digital download in return for the email address, complete with auto-responder, which works as a carrot to entice people to sign up and also as proof, both of access to the goods and a reliable setup and delivery system.

Fine. Another black screen! And they got my email.

My conclusion is: P, whatever you're currently smoking, please stop. It makes you no good. Go for Earl Grey Tea instead.

Of course onenpg had some relation to PP, you can't just shut down other people's sites because you don't like them. Even if you are Prince... I wonder what is he thinking? Seems that even his own people (Donna an DrF) don't have a clear idea of what's going on lol not sure this, if true, is good news though.
