A total waste of money that they will never recoup. were in a recession flipping madness!! Just another excuse for the government to screw us all over in more higher taxes, Businesses are closing down every day more people out of work they will keep cutting benefits and make more cuts in service. The money on the Olympics should have been spent fixing this country!! :mad2: They can shove the Olympics up their behind side ways and spin and I hope it hurts ![]()

When I was in London we just happened upon them testing out the lights and such they've added to tower bridge. It was quite a light show for a while, ending with them lowering the olympics rings.
It was pretty cool.

They're happening right when I go into tech and performances for my play. I'm not going to see any of this. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

And yours truly will be doing the captioning for many of the events... Don't judge me too hard LOL

Can't really argue against any of that for most of the recent Olympic games. Although each country does make an insane amount of dollars via tourism during the games and is usually left with world class facilities that can be used for decades to come. Still, the cost is too high, for sure.
That being said, I freakin' LOVE the Olympics and will be watching as much as humanly possible.
I just wish it was the Winter Olympics so I could get my Curling fix.

I agree.
Most people ignore the fact that a huge chunk of the expense is related to INFRASTRUCTURE upgrades & such. The stadiums and dorms & such aren't the lion's share of the expense. Afterwards, many of those are used for housing and staging local sports & such.
So basically, the public in general benefits to a great extent. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Here in Utah, much of the housing for the Olympic Athletes is now used as student housing for the University of Utah. I'm firmly planted in denial

The broom I sweep my porch with was used as a curling sweeper in the winter Olympics.

I'll miss the first few days, but will catch what I can on TV. I tried to get tickets for some of the events, but failed (as is the story for most people I know).
The Gymnasts from Brazil are training at a Gymnastics centre that my children attend, so we're going to watch them practice next week. It's the closest i'm going to be to the real action.

I think you should do some research.
The Prime Minister said the Olympics cost 11 Bn, but will bring in 14 Bn.
New report: The Olympics will deliver a £16.5bn boost to the UK economy by 2017 and help create the equivalent of 62,200 jobs.
In theory, it's a short term and long term investment, increasing jobs and generating profit. Which is perfect, as it meets the fundamental macroeconomic objectives: economic growth, employment, and a healthier balance of payments.
Though, it's most likely, all talk. And even if it isn't, the ones who will will really be benefiting are the big businesses. [Edited 7/13/12 16:01pm]

Yes, there has been a lot of investment for the transport for IOC members and other big shots.
The millions othe people, Londoners and tourists just have to pay and find a solution for the disfuntioning public transport themselves.
In London all bikes are sold out, because the most reliable and fast transport mode in London is by bike.
Allthough the London people do pay for the Olympics by means of elevated taxes, the fancy new stadiums will not be atainable for any kid or person who isn't rich.
The Olympics are a waist of money, extra stress and a burden for the local people.
I've never read about a positive balance outcome after the Olympics for any country.
99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I will be watching it on telly as I like athletes tennis swimming and gymnastics. But its gonna play havoc on the transport, London traffic is already bad everyday, what the hell is it gonna be like when the olympics is on? Theyve already put up signs everywhere within the m25 with warning of olympic disturbances on the roads
One good thing I suppose it will give east London a much need boost in economy.

Are you guys not getting shagged for extra council tax to pay for all this shite?
I seen a thing on TV about the traffic last night. Traffic control were saying that it is going to be like having rush hour, but 20 hrs a day. Nice.

Council tax benefit is ending next April so the poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer. The Cuntservatives are well and truly back and basically just finishing the work of that fucking repulsive creature known as Margaret Thatcher. .

As far as I know my C/T is still extortionately the same as ever, the tea leafs.
I will be avoiding the underground and buses as much as possible during the Olympics as I am worried about bombs etc or some other nutter to do something.
